I guess Spiceworld was OK in terms of it's target audience.

If you take away the documentaries, and the ones where the band are played by actors, I don't suppose it leaves much. But there is one well-celebrated example: Head - The Monkees

In terms of more auxiliary items........ Big water bottle. Set list marked up with a few 'cheats' Stage clothes

Having a listen to The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour Here's the understated classic "Iceland": -
I don't really agree with the view that TAB makes you play the finger position rather than the note. The finger position in the TAB is just a suggestion of where to play the note and most players, even me, know the alternative positions of each note. I mean it mainly involves being able to count to five. I often re-position to my preferred way.

Oh, and IMO the OP is not overthinking it, discussion is the reason we come to a discussion (or 'chat' as the site name styles it) forum. I'm looking forward to more bass-centric philosophical discussion points from the OP.

A bass guitar - my take It has to be based on a 'guitar' design rather than double bass etc. It has to be designed with with general intention of playing lower register than the guitar. If a player takes it mainly into higher registers then fair enough, but the instrument itself remains a bass guitar.

Didn't that group pick the drummer who hated reggae?

Yes it was interesting that the woman on bass was the most straightforward character. No ego or personality stuff, just played the right bassline for the required style.

Any watching "Rock Till We Drop" on BBC2... first episode was tonight? Martin Kemp and Lady Leshur are forming two bands of older musicians (average age 70's) to play off at the Isle of White festival. I enjoyed the first show, looking forward to the other 3. What did you think?

4 one hour Gospel shows on BBC Sounds, presented by Mica Paris (who knows a thing or two about gospel). Covers various styles... here's link to the first show: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0014f33 I've listened to all 4... very good.

Just discovered Rort Menace, and got the latest EP from Bandcamp.... thrashy Aussie goodness: -
Yep... 10 beats to the bar. 10 notes in an octave (or dectave as it will be known after decimalisation)

I get the feeling that some tab sites 'harvest' tabs from other sites or are more like a portal. Doesn't help with quality control!
-
It was in Off Topic at time of writing so I was asking if it should be moved to General Discussion.
-
Should this be in "General Discussion" BTW?

They do vary in quality for sure, but on average they are way better than what can I do by ear. And for instance Ultimate Guitar has a ratings and comments system in place, which can help.

I'm continuing my banjo journey... sticking with clawhammer though. Aiming to learn half a dozen (beginner) pieces in the next few months. Mainly instrumental versions, but a couple of vocals if I feel so inclined. I just bought an ebook from Hilary Hawke of 10 beginners tunes. I'll start wit the first one in the book - she posts a video on Yuotube for each tune: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/793299086/beginner-clawhammer-banjo-digital-book?click_key=cbece83a7a39235326e62c9733e2b0eeb7c25bb3%3A793299086&click_sum=7ac2b30d&ref=shop_home_active_1&crt=1

On the topic of Sam Kelly and bass, here's a story which you may not want to share with your band mates..... I saw Sam Kelly at a festival with a reduced line up with no bass instrument. Yet many of the songs had a good bass presence. The band announced that after the gig they would be in the tent next door selling/signing merch. Mrs Soup wanted a signed CD, so I went and got it. I took the opportunity to ask about he bass. They confirmed what I had thought.... a couple of them had those pedals which add bass (not always on). I guess the OP's bandmate may not have heard it though!

One thing to bear in mind is that broadly acoustic music is different to electric music, in terms of missing instruments. An electric rock band would sound rubbish if the bass player or drummer where missing. With an acoustic band it's more like any line-up can work. I've seen the folk artist Sam Kelly a few times.... he goes out with any number of musicians, him plus seven, three ,two or one etc.

This has been an ear-worm for a few days... don't know why, but listed to it a few times since. Great song, written for The Pogues by a friend of the band. I'd assumed up till know that it was an old song (at time of recording I mean..... I suppose it is an old song now!). The Pogues - Navigator -

I'm not one for bass shows, but if I did go to one I'd prefer this way.

True. I think Lydon later on said that the tensions between Matlock and the rest of the were either initiated by or fabricated by Malcom.
