  1. I re-read the op and you could be right 😃
  2. I think Psycokiller is good for bass, but not a showcase for a drummer…. If that’s what you’re after.
  3. Foxton left to do From the Jam..... and original bass player Ali came back IIRC. I think he is still there?
  4. Pom Poko in Bedford Friday 4th. New-ish Norwergian 4 piece... here's their best known song
  5. If you want to go back that far, I reckon a lot of stuff by Blondie fits the bill.
  6. I very dislike his music, but respect his line of self-depricating humour.
  7. I'm thinking that it could be a simple quarter note I-V bass pattern, which speeds up according to the vehicle speed. It would certainly make them less attractive to ride.
  8. Objective of learning guitar fulfilled?
  9. So the electric scooters are going for hi-hat and tuba for the on-board sound. How can bass guitar get in on the electric vehicle sound malarkey?
  10. I don’t do much of my own… although I have built a couple of cigar box guitars. The action on my bass needs lowering since a string change a couple of months ago and I vowed to do it myself. But I got the Allen key out of my tool kit and it is too long to fit in the recess. Never got round to getting a new key and not even sure what to google to get one. Must get into gear!
  11. I still have the same preferred tone in bass as when I started out, influenced by punk and post-punk. But now I have much wider taste in music so there's more chance I could play something which needed a different tone which I would do. Well try anyway.
  12. And that no one in the audience cares anyway. Or the rest of the band.
  13. I remember setting up my first audio interface many years ago. I ended up ringing the Helpdesk because it didn’t work. We tried loads of before I casually mentioned the USB extension cable I was using. I could almost hear the support guy’s eyes rolling ….. moved the box nearer to pc , no extension cable - worked fine. Lesson learned.
  14. I had the same advice from a teacher in a guitar workshop… he described it as “always heading towards success”
  15. Not a gig, but related. I had a solo open mic spot about 8 years ago. I felt I hadn't practised the vocals at full volume enough (I can't do it much at home) so decided I would stop off in the car park of a disused sports centre in Luton and have a run through in the car. So I parked up, got the acoustic out of the boot and got in the back seat. I played though the songs a few times, when I became aware that there was now a police car parked on the other side of the car park… and that they seemed to be observing me. I carried on, thinking best to act innocent. The male officer started to walk over . I carried on playing. He had a real serious look on his face until he got a few feet from the car, then he started kind-of laughing. He was laughing because he could see the guitar. It transpired that up to now they could only see the movement of my strumming arm, and thought I was entertaining myself in quite a different way. I'm assuming they had some kind of tip-off as it would be too much co-incidence otherwise. Anyway I did the open mic… went pretty well and I had a good "Something funny happened on my way here" anecdote to tell.
  16. Good luck……. I find that learning new stuff is one thing, but breaking old habits much more difficult.
  17. In rock I can think of the bass player from Beak (the Portishead spin-off, but they don't like being called that😕) He does about half the lead vocals too. He switches between two basses live, one in hand and one in stand. No strap - which makes the changeovers easier I guess. I think Jah Wobble used to it at one time?
  18. I heard this lot via a social media suggestion, thought they sounded good and (quick google later) saw they were playing locally to me. It was tonight and they were very good. I think it's fits here..... Grandma's house, a new-ish Bristol band.
  19. They got quite a lot of coverage couple of years ago.I thought he was a good front man but didn’t like his contribution musically. I thought they were good instruments wise especially the bass.
  20. Debut Album by Yard Act... the Overload. Here's the title track. Perfect for an aging Fall fan 😉
  21. Some of the more 'rootsy' kind of gospel... here the Staple Singers, will the Circle Be Unbroken:
