  1. Suppose she might have listened to some of the stuff I posted on "what are you listening to"😃
  2. Is that the Royal 'We' 😉?
  3. In the case of Andy Summers of The Police, that part is used in lots of adverts etc and he doesn't get a royalty. (If I understandcorrectly)
  4. Some interesting (but off-topic) discussion on the Adam Clayton thread about individual song writing credits (e.g. U2) , so maybe continue in this thread. What do you think about crediting the whole band for example? Anyone have any direct experience? Any other points, opinions, stories, examples etc around songwriting credits?
  5. If they want to de-select people who use the wrong media to reply then that is their choice, no problem. But it is going to far to mention the policy in the ad. So it would be a ‘no’ from me.
  6. Exactly what I was thinking is part of the motivation for bands who share.
  7. The first few Ramones albums were jointly credited, but after a while they started individual credits - even though the song writing was always mainly single member or sometimes two-member. They weren't best mates by the end as far as I can tell.
  8. I suspect that to some extent he is being paid to "not contribute". I'm sure equality, that they are school friends etc also plays a part. If royalties are based on contribution then it is an incentive for members to make unnecessary contributions or 'shoe-horn' songs on the album. For Bono and The Edge it probably makes long-term sense for them to do a four way split.
  9. Deleted comment because it was irrelevant. How much further off topic was it than outside toilets 😀?
  10. I'm getting quite a few feeds for bone conducting headphones - not sure if it's a real splurge or maybe just because I clicked on the first one. So what do you think - are there benefits or what? One of the ads suggest using them for cycling as then your ears are still open.
  11. I don't really listen to U2 , so thanks for posting the example. I took a listen and AC does great job on that, great bass sound and probably the main hook in the song. Don't see the problem.
  12. Inspiration Initially tried to do some thing free-form and moony sounding, but scrapped it and wrote something song-based on the acoustic with moon based lyrics. But even that ended up sounding completely different when transferred to electric guitar etc. Tech: all the usual: Daw: Studio One , Drums: Red Zep programmed via piano roll, Bass: Vantage, Guitar: Squier Tele, Vox :Shure SM58
  13. “Dubba dubba dubba cha”- Reg Presley, The Troggs.
  14. I think if you are thinking about sound ( as most people are) then tuner doesn’t count as a pedal. However if you are thinking about less clutter on stage or something then it’s different.
  15. I think what you said probably applies to any thread 😃!
  16. I’m about to buy a new PC for my home music recording….. what spec will you go for? Laptop or desktop? If you don’t mind me asking of course!
  17. I use Studio One , have seen a few of his videos and agree that he’s pretty good. However the kind of stuff I need to improve is not DAW specific, more the general guidelines to follow to get a good sound etc.
  18. My personal enjoyment of bass solos can be encapsulated in the following: If I were to list my top 10 gigs I ever went to it would most likely include The Magic Band in 2002. If I were to list my bottom 10 gig moments it would most likely include Rockette Morton's bass solo from the same gig.
  19. I think a bit of unconditional love is OK at the beginning, and after all turning up is a very good start. If the band are no good you can always boo, throw bottles of wee or write strongly worded complaint later.
  20. Bass solos generally aren't great. If I had to do one I'd like to have the following rules I'm not on my own. The drummer continues, maybe with a stripped down beat. Maybe the odd chord from someone else. It's short - maybe 8 bars as suggested by others. The bass keeps the main feel of the song going, playing a variation of the actual bassline - either stripping it back or adding embellishment as appropriate.
  21. No problem with that, as long as you unclip it when you are not tuning up 😉
  22. Can imagine that sounding good with that genre of music. The recorder gets a bad rep due to the shrill poor tone we heard as school children. If your partner could suggest a good folk or folk-rock tenor recorder song I’d be interested to give it a listen.
  23. That's good advice for effect-y stuff. The flip-side of that is "always on" pedals if it forms parts of your core tone - like boost pedal to drive you amp, distortion pedal, thumpinator, Compressor and the like.
