That's good advice for effect-y stuff.
The flip-side of that is "always on" pedals if it forms parts of your core tone - like boost pedal to drive you amp, distortion pedal, thumpinator, Compressor and the like.
It also underlines the point of this thread….. even though she did that without agreeing it with the rest of the band, they didn’t complain on stage… or even give her a funny look.
Not sure if it’s a common practice, and does not directly answer the OP, but it’s related so I’ll mention it anyway.
We played a gig at a local pub where the band got a flat fee regardless of takings plus a percentage of takings over a certain amount. I can’t remember the numbers though. I do remember that we got the flat fee only!
I've benefited from loans a few times... for example I went to the US with work, and went to an Americana/roots thing with a few open-mic spots in the interval. I went the the desk t pay and said I'd be interested in the open mic but didn't have a guitar. Without a beat one of the guys said "I'll lend you mine". Happy to pay it forward.
In general I'm happy to help out another musician. If there are a few @rseholes out there who will take advantage of that then so be it. Most people are OK.
And it's simply not in my nature to give the "if I can borrow your wife/car etc" type of answer. Just the way I am and not about to change.
A new indie band called Porridge Radio (OK I'm not sure about the name either 😃) - Jan 20th - rescheduled from pre-covid.
Not sure I can wait that long for next gig...might have to look for one before then.
I went to see Robyn Hitchcock recently and the support act was Jessica Lee Morgan.
She mentioned ("I like to name drop"!)that she was the daughter of Tony Visconti and folk singer Mary Hopkin.
Her set was OK, but unfortunately nothing to suggest that he's inherited much from her parents.
Reminded of this more recent group as they were chosen by Idles (normally it's a listener who choses) for the "Trunk of Punk" feature on 6 music yesterday. I think they are supporting Idles on the tour too. Sounded a bit post punk to me.
The other two they chose were Discharge and Crass.
Big Joanie - Baby Rust
Going well outside of my music theory comfort zone here, but doesn’t the bugle just play the simple harmonic notes of the scale…. And therefore could be played using harmonics on bass?
Just thinking out loud ……..
I reckon it could work.
Maybe with tone not too bassy and bit of honk/sustain.
Googling only gave a link to the bass tab for a Libertines song which has Last Post in the title!
I reckon the chord-button device could have some use…..
for example if you need the singer to bang out a couple of chords in a couple of songs.
Also it might be able to play some stuff not possible/easy otherwise… for example you could make a little riff by strumming C and simultaneously pressing D on the fourth beat or whatever.
