  1. To paraphrase an old joke: Give a bass-player two fingers and tell them to take their pick.
  2. Been listening to a few recommended tracks after Alan sad passing. Indeed those do have great bass sound and presence with the aforementioned drive. Occurred to me that the guitar parts in Quo allow 'space for the bass' - generally using a pair of Telecasters.
  3. I don’t have any finger technique aardvark by default it’s a pick. If something needs fingers then I’ll get by with a Jameson style single finger. Never needed two yet but if I did probs couldn’t.
  4. Is that Mike Rutherford? If so, looking kinda cool in his old age!
  5. Not sure that Dee Dee played it one one string, but stuff like Blitzkreig Bop springs to mind.
  6. Strange that the O’Neils went from the Undertones to this. Like them both though.
  7. How about Teenage Jesus and the Jerks? 1978 so early for post punk.
  8. Yes, the Strictly band are really good. The problem is that I tend to focus on how they are handling the song and not noticing the dancing🙄.
  9. I don’t have any gigs as a player at the mo anyway. But I do have two gigs next week (one music, one comedy) as a punter and wondering if they’ll go ahead. Sorry to hear your situation.
  10. I remember forming band with a mate, and discussing the musical style. Grunge was the new thing at the time... we thought about going that route but decided against as we considered that grunge had peaked in popularity with "Superfuzz Bigmuff" and a few others - and was downhill from then on. Next thing we knew Nevermind exploded and took it to virtually mainstream popularity.
  11. I noticed that when it came to the subject of Kurt's death, there was no comment from Krist Novoselic. I think Krist was closer to Kurt than anyone else, their relationship went back pre-Nirvana. Probably too raw subject for him, even now.
  12. I get a massive leap of tuning accuracy by switching from "by ear" to a tuner. Any subsequent finessing within electric tuners is pointless for the reasons explained in the OP (and even temperament too I guess).
  13. Best day ever? I'll stick with the OP premise that the best day can be defined by simultaneous album releases. I'd need to find the release date of all my favourite albums/artists plus some other classic/landmark albums and see how they lined up. I'll let you know when I've done that. Don't hold your breathe!
  14. The Nirvana and Pixies albums I bought and loved at the time, but they have have not endured in my listening to today. But can still appreciate the quality. RHCP peppers I generally don't like, but cant ay I actually know the album. I Don't know the TCQ album, so can't comment, but they sound OK on the occasional radio plays I hear.
  15. OK, here it is. Blurb: The image bought to mind the saying that kids at school used to say if they thought someone was looking at them - "do you want a picture?". As I was falling asleep the musical idea came. I decided to do something different - and recorded real drums, including my home-made suitcase bass-drum. Technical stuff Daw: Studio One Drums: Un-named car-boot snare, Gear-4-music floor tom, suitcase bass drum. Played with thunder rods. Bass: Vantage Guitars: Squier Tele, Vox Standard 25 Vox: Shure SM58
  16. Nearly there with this month's entry. However, I will avoid any pigeon stuff as I fully covered that topic in a previous entry.
  17. Wow, there’s loads there, stopped scrolling in the end. Reckon they have some kind of script or program churning these out?
  18. I think the problem is that people may find that they have good voice and good pitching, and think "I'm a singer". They don't find out if they have timing until they join a band.
  19. Cheer! Yeah, the costs did rack up a bit by the time I’d included everything - I naively thought it would work out cheap. But worth it!
  20. Good stuff... his ideas were things I could use. Other YT'ers play stuff I'd want to avoid doing.
  21. Yeah, the Shoreditch one was interesting. I got to stay two nights in a trendy hotel (the Z). The open mic itself was held in a clothes shop. At the end of the day all the clothes racks are moved to the side and it becomes a kind of venue.
  22. I think we need to hear this in one or both versions!
