I rarely use effects on bass.
A lot of genres don’t need bass pedals.
A lot of players who try pedals end up going straight to amp.
However it is worth trying them out in case it works for you…. but nothing expensive, just a cheap zoom multi effect or similar. Then you can get rid or upgrade as appropriate.
I used the Melodyne in this months Composition challenge...... was pretty easy to use, but not sure what effect it had on overall quality of the track!
I'm fortunate that my punk/new wave band features pretty much songs I enjoy playing AND listening to.
The one that fits most to the OP question would be 2-4-6-8 Motorway by TRB. Although I've seen it on peoples 'don't like to play ' list!
Coming in early to get ahead of some days away.
Blurb:
At first I thought the door was in a mirrored wall... so I based the lyrics around seeing a mirror Vs door as a metaphor similar to glass half empty or full. Also went for a more reflective feel in the music.
End of Blurb
Technical notes:
Studio One DAW. Studio One drum app loaded with “Red Zep” drum sounds, programmed via piano roll. Vantage Bass. Squier Tele guitar. Studio one piano and organ played via Akai Mini Play keyboard. Hudson Ukulele. Sure SM 58 Mic.
Used a couple of new (to me) DAW techniques:
‘Automation’ to control an effect pedal off/on and control volume up/down on one element.
The other new technique? Whisper it........ Autotune! (well it's some form of pitch correction anyway)
Wow, that's tough. Life, eh? Best wishes.
Hope you'll find some way to stay in music.... as you've already seen, you can get loads of ideas from the BC 'ers.
similar for me.... you could name a whole bunch of Cure singles which I think are a great song, yet I have no inclination to get any further into their albums. That goes for both the 'alt' and 'pop' periods - if I can split their career like that!
As per some of the other posters, they didn’t fit my punk credentials, but I sneakily liked a few of their songs.
Good to hear they still put on a good show.
Well, I've taken the plunge.
5 minutes after the above post I downloaded the trial version of Melodyne, and been playing with it since. Pretty good...... just need to see if the features I need are contained in the basic (i.e. cheap) version.
Sparks and Franz Ferdinand combined forces a few tears ago. The two bands had a complimentary instrumental line up, so fitted together OK.
I can't remember what it sounded like though!
They went by the mildly amusing moniker of FFS. I think it was the bass player who came up with it.
