  1. Would @Reggaebass be allowed the complete works of Robbie Shakespeare?
  2. What happened? - resigned - retired - died - survived RIP Dave, you hero!
  3. That wouldn't get past the producers of the show - nothing practical .
  4. You've finally achieved the public recognition you so richly deserve, and have been invited onto Desert Island Discs. What would you choose as your luxury item? A bass right? Well let's see! Of course share the details!
  5. I guess Greenfield didn’t spot Hugh playing the keyboards with a drum stick then! Mind you, I thought Dave looked pretty convincing as frontman👍.
  6. Or 3) you have a great bass tone.... Well if it was 3) you would have had loads of punters and bandmates telling you about it
  7. Wouldn’t want to work “relicing” the Nick Olivetti signature bass either😃
  8. Lol- I just read a bit of it. A debate on wether matches vs lighter effects taste, a reference to ‘headroom’ , people returning to pipe (bass) after a defection to cigars ( as you say, guitar)!
  9. I guess they are made from different woods. Which may effect the flavour….. or not. Probably a hot topic on Pipechat!😃
  10. I mentioned earlier that my nomination drew for Number one position with another record, which eventually won on controversial goal difference...… …. well that record was The Joker! So perhaps 15/09/1990 was the battle of the basslines!
  11. Well I don't think you should get started on that unless you can play at least one RATM song to music-degree-course-audition standard !
  12. Yeah, like, I was SO into her before she sold out! 🙂
  13. Pretend you are playing a Bass Ukulele with these rubber finger tips!
  14. Yes, it's almost as if the general record buying public didn't recognise the importance of the bassline 😀!
  15. Yeah, get what you are saying. However good Rhythm Stick bassline is, I don't think it really moved bass forward as such. Whereas WILMH bassline was innovative and distinctive (plus it supported AND added to the song).👍
  16. I’m glad you agreed..... otherwise I was planning to pollute the thread with comments like - “it’s subjective”, - “define bassline”, - “hey - whatever YOU think Is the best bassline is the best bassline” , - “music isn’t a competition “ and - “well as long as the bassline serves the song......” 🙂
  17. “Groove is in the Heart” - Dee-Lite 👍
  18. Still trying to beat HMWYRS... thought of another one but it only went to No.2. But.......... ....... according to Wikipedia there was some controversy about who was number one. The two records had drawn on sales, and the position was decided on a spurious 'goal difference' system. So if it's permissible I'll post it. Well, after listening to it again to make sure the bass line is actually that good and has not just improved in my memory 🙂 !
  19. No spoilers please ....... some of us watch the broadcast version 😃
  20. This doesn't sound much like Shalimar 😉 , but is an interesting (IMO) example of open strings only ........ The Fall - "Who Makes the Nazis" is based around a riff from the 4 open harmonics . The riff was composed by non-musician singer Mark E smith on a toy four string plastic guitar, and bass Player Steve Hanley played it as harmonics. Warning, this song is not particular accessible, even by Fall standards.
  21. I don’t know what car my bass is, but I’d venture that slap is the hand-brake turn of driving.
  22. Looks like one of those did not get the memo on naming standards!
