I liked her reaction to the initial suggestion to add a lead guitarist to the line up. Can't remember the full rant but it included something along the lines of "Why do we want some egomaniac jizzing all over our songs?"

True! Not only is the show subverting gender/religious stereotypes, but also the stereotype of drummer as happy-go-lucky joker!

Anyone else watching "We are Ladyparts" on Channel 4 (Thursdays at 10pm or on catch-up)? It's a comedy series about a all-female muslim punk band who recruit a new lead guitarist. There's a number of non-musical sub plots (which I like) but I think the musical side and band side is pretty good too. The songs sound like a real band would, and they at least look like they can play the instruments - e.g bass players hand moves with the chord changes. Thoughts?

The song above is 3 Libras........ the title reminded me of this song by The Fall - 2 Librans. Not much in common musically though:

I like the extreme stuff like Napalm Death. Regular HM not so keen, although of course a fair bit is good and does cross over for me. Within the Grind/death genre I don't like it if the vocalist sings or the lead guitar is melodic. Bring on the noise!

I’m not sure it’s really new........ I think the term “bird” for a woman has fallen out of general usage quite a few years ago.

Yes - tuner>chorus>amp (real or simulated) is the general way. Especially don’t feed a chorused signal into the tuner.... makes it harder for the tuner to recognise the pitch.

I'm a 'budget gear' kind of a player, and lockdown hasn't changed that. Maybe one day I'll indulge myself to a bit of expensive or posh gear, but no idea what the trigger would be.

Depends a bit on whether it's my dream home or our dream home ........ If it's our dream home then would have one room dedicated to music, with all my guitars, amps and recording equipment.....plus a drum kit. If it's my dream home then the same plus a guitar and bass and small amp in the living room.

Still on the Doors....... in some cases, for sure the first album, (and for sure not for Jerry Scheff )the bassist simply doubled the keyboard bass. IMO this gave a great feel to the first Album...... strange repetitive left-hand lines going on which a real bass player probably would not have played.

Starting this thread as a dedicated thread for the topic raised in the "three piece' thread. So you're in a 3 piece, and when the guitarist switches from rhythm to lead you feel that the song goes 'empty'. What can you do? Opinions welcome from "Embrace the Space" comments to tech tips etc.

Serious answer............. If it was a 3 piece to play some of my punkier/new-wavier stuff then I'd like a non-Gibson like a Jaguar though a nicely overdriven valve combo. Boost pedal for solo/lead. Otherwise maybe it could be to play some more experimental, rhythmically-driven stuff where the guitarist would play some sharp, often sparse, imaginative, echo-ey stuff with a Tele, clean channel amp like Peavy Bandit and a reasonable pedal board for echo and tremelo etc.

There’s loads, but I’ll pick one example because one member has featured in a doc I’m watcthing. Throbbing Gristle. They sound interesting and liked the odd bit I’ve heard, but never got around to properly checking them out.
