Wow, that's one hell of a signal chain! My Bloody Valentine tribute act perhaps😀?

The biggest w@nker on BC? - This calls for a poll!

Related to bass and almost to an actual sport, I once saw my bass falling over at the other side of the room (leant against an amp ) and ran across the room to catch it before it hit the floor. I didn't think anything of it, but got some amazed comments from the other in the room.

Overdrive, Distortion, and Fuzz
Nail Soup replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
When I started out in the early 80's I (and the people in my musical circle) only had one word to cover the whole lot - fuzz. You had a fuzz box, and could play a guitar clean or fuzzy. After a while I learnt the terms distortion and overdrive.... pretty much with the meanings mentioned by other posters. -
Here goes. It was the entry for the Sumo picture. I deliberately didn't change anything, so I could get a good comparison. I just removed all effects, EQ etc and sent Andy the stems. Plus the original mix. Guitar and bass sent with and without the amp simulation. Cymbals shared a track. Andy asked if it was OK to change drum sounds, amp sounds etc and I said do what you think. He also offered to fix some timing issues in the vocal... another yes! I was happy wit the first mix so we left it here. Here the original then Erax. Original: Erax Remix:

Out of interest, how do you do that? I'm guessing open notes.......

I recently purchased Akai mini play..... it's a small MIDI controller with 25 mini keys , but also has a bunch of built-in sounds. So no faffing around with laptops. I plan to try it in my Punk/New wave covers band (the other don't know yet!) to play simplified lines for songs which have keyboard e.g. Pump It Up. However it will not be played instead of bass..... we are gtr/gtr/bass/drums ... the keyboard will played by a guitarist, or a guitarist will switch to bass for that song. It's a good option if you want a single keyboard to do live work and home recording. Not sure if the bass sounds are good enough for what you want... I'm guessing not, I can find two patches called Synth Bass 1 and 2.

Reminds me of something John Peel said... John said that he eventually stopped booking reggae artists for sessions due to the number of no-shows at the session studio. It may have been they'd blow out the session if they got a paid gig. Does that sound plausible to you guys??

hhhmm, Ive got a pink highlight pen somewhere
-
Good idea, I'll put them up later (or tomorrow 😀)!

Not from me, I didn't have anything ready enough for a mix. Maybe I should have held on! However, the mix I did get was of a previous entry to the composition challenge.

I've pulled the trigger and bought the upgrade. It was actually on discount for mothers day (the American one I guess) - 25%. I think it's still valid till tomorrow (10th). Took hours to dowlaod all the budled stuff, but now I have it installed. I've already added the one VST I already have (MT Power drummer which I got for my experiments with Reaper). Not tried many features yet (and will probably never use a lot of them) , but one of the new effects, a channel strip seems pretty good. But the main thing is that the door (DAW?) is open for VST's now. A decent drum app is needed.... maybe EZdrummer. Couple of 'negatives' ... I'll post them in a different post.

Brian Jones might have something to say about that!😇 Seems that chivalry is not dead...... @mikel could easily have let 'the missus' carry the can for that😀. -
Let's talk about pitch correction.
Nail Soup replied to leftybassman392's topic in General Discussion
@leftybassman392 Thank you for a) the Tuba Skinny vid and b) the explanation of the difference between Autotune and Melodyne. I have a question about Autotune ..... if used as "set and forget" how does it handle glissando?- 194 replies

I know we are discussing how high the bass is, but it didn't mean up a hill!

Let's talk about pitch correction.
Nail Soup replied to leftybassman392's topic in General Discussion
I enjoy the vocals of Mark E Smith and Bob Dylan - the imperfections are part of the charm. I do like the singing of Aretha Franklin say, but she doesn’t need correction. So for my ears it doesn’t have any application. But if it can help someone with good ideas and character to iron out a few glitches then I’m happy too.- 194 replies

So what is the speaker/ amp power ratio in a combo?

Nail Soup replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
I'm in the "should like Zappa based on my other likes, but don't" camp. So now I have another opportunity to convert! -
I would take the middle ground here.... choose an amp and speakers that had the same power rating. Not out of compromise, I just don't know any better!
-
Some of the melodic elements might be, but drum kit and sequenced parts not so much!

Fixed tempo and repetitive rhythm. Can you do better ?
Nail Soup replied to Hellzero's topic in General Discussion
I suspect that the first use of fixed tempo and repetitive rhythm happened before we started writing it down. -
And, like trouser waistbands, gets higher as we get older!

Same for me........ I might go even for the oil too 😃!

Another Zoom HN2 user. Works well and can double as a good quality USB mike if you ever need it.

Top of P pickup at bottom of belt. Used to be lower when younger😃
