Metallica count!

So today Daft Punk announced they are splitting. Got me to thinking........ what other bands have a musical genre in their name? I think we can discount when it's simply there to announce the bands own genre.... e.g The Paul Butterfield Blues band, the Jazz Messengers
-
Not at all. Great that you can express those feelings in a song. It's the kind of stuff I'd find hard to say to them face to face I'm afraid ☹️.
-
Daft question? It would be if someone asked it to me - I don’t have a clue about that kind of stuff!
-
I’d assumed that it was a deliberate humorous mis-spelling by the OP. But that’s just the kind of generous, glass-half-full kind of person I am😀😉.

Struggling to think of a time I went to a gig to see the support and not the headline. Festivals however are completely different. I often go a long way down the the bill before I find a band I would want to see.

Aswad (if you can call it a gig) . Aswad were, to my surprise, booked to play at a kind of free bank holiday in the park shindig organized by the local council. A few other bands were on, then it came to the headline act - Aswad. The announcer announced them, and then the 3 members of Aswad danced on stage with a mic each in hand. I gave the benefit of the doubt - maybe a curtain would lift to reveal the drum kit and bass rig etc. But no - it was backing tapes. Walked way - I hate backing tapes. Probably within 30 seconds or so. I get that the council could not afford the full version of Aswad.... but I'd have preferred a local band in a similar genre.

How dare you...... OK, let you off then.

Songs where bits seem tagged on for the hell of it

I heard the band tell the story behind that arrangement. Seems that they had two ideas and put them together to make a song. So far so good. Then they found that the two pieces didn't fit so well as they thought, as the parts each had a different feel and natural tempo. So they 'de-fragged' the song and put all the verses at the start and all the choruses at the end. I really like the song, but do wonder why they didn't simply develop the ideas into two different songs! -
What are you listening to right now?

Rum and Ribena are still around though

And it's not even in the mix yet...…...

Oh yeah? That is just your opinion!!!!! [Just in case : the above was an ironic comment about how someone in a thread will eventually say someone else's comment was 'just an opinion', even though the said comment was obviously intended as an opinion]

Maybe @billy bass was somehow thinking of the covers the Pistols did around that time.... No Fun, Stepping Stone, Don't Gimme No Lip...………..

And could pull it off live too! And immortalised by Robyn Hitchcock in the mis-heard-lyrics-inspired "Listening To The Higsons":

Ah, yes........he was in the Black Abbotts first. On Edit: Just listed to the clip. Great performance.... it was a live broadcast too judging by the little squigly box which came up in the corner before the ad break.

How on earth did this get missed from the thread on decent music from a comedian 😆? -
If I thought I could get away with it, I'd suggest the following to my Punk/New wave band: 1 - Damaged Goods - Gang of Four 2 - Death Disco - Public Image Ltd 3 - Totally Wired - The Fall

I put 3. There are 3 instruments I can play to performance level: Guitar Bass Ukulele (I actually play it to a reasonable level, rather than just a couple of chords) Then there a few where I can (and do) play a little bit: Keys (simple parts for home recording) Mouth Organ (couple of Feelgood songs with the covers band) Banjo (occasional song at the folk circle, bit of home recording) Fiddle (occasional simple part for home recording) Drums ( for example simple snare with brushes on home recording)

Guitar chords for sure has a much longer period where you can't play anything properly (unless you use open tunuing or something) compared to bass. But one gets there eventually!
