  1. I guess that's fair enough for a tribute..... but I'm impressed how quickly they rumbled you given that you had most of it nailed!
  2. I'm another one who is surprised at the restriction. But if you choose to comply with it (and no judgment if you do) I guess the best way is to use the "Chippendales" clause for the female singer.... for the age thing just say in the ads what your age range is - and where you would normally say "but we don't care what age you are", don't.
  3. Don’t get down about it 😐
  4. Come on everybody! How else are we going to encourage the next generation of bass players if we don't have x-factor style competitions?
  5. Welcome to Basschat! Question: I want to do X, how would you guys do it? Answer: You do it however you want, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise!
  6. Can't speak for Bass covers, but if it helps my covers band has settled on the following: 80-90% of the time we do as close to faithful as we can get. 10-20% we follow the general sprit of the original, but not exact. Rarely if ever do we 're-imagine' the song.
  7. It's all in the name. If the band has a cool name, then I will like them.
  8. Enjoying some medieval music today....
  9. Yeah, like I was saying there's hardly any available.......... only 31 different ones
  10. I would like a tremolo pedal where you can set the tempo via "tempo tap", similar to what is available on some delay pedals.
  11. @stewblack ,In spirit of lessons learned.......... please consider the position of your new innovation, and the fate of your previous innovation😕.
  12. looks like a bit of a crotch-botherer to me too😃
  13. I'm not level headed, but I am a tightwad....... so my limit will usually be lower than the reserve😃!
  14. Ok, clip on tuners haven't been around that long compared to how long I've been playing, but......... Finally buying one clip-on tuner per instrument so I don't have to swap one around depending on where I'm going with which instrument. Same for straps.
  15. Never busked on bass myself (have busked other instruments), but maybe take a look the Violent Femmes. They started out as a (three piece ) busking band..... kind of punky with teenage angst lyrics (probably the best such lyrics). The bass player is Brian Ritchie and he got a loud sound by using a very large bass guitar (Ernie Ball Earthwood apparently) and hitting it hard. A lot of the volume came from a kind of clank, and he developed a 'lead bass' style...... not sure how well it would work. I think he's great, but may not be to all tastes.
  16. Great posts so far bass chatters! sounds like Reaper would fit my brief, and it sounds like you can have the audio in a DAW format (i.e grid lines per bar) and have the video clip changes snap onto the bars of music. So, follow on question.... if I record my song in another DAW and move it to Reaper for the video stage, can I make the reaper grid lines be on my music's bars?
  17. I was thinking of the running jokes on Basschat about Carol🤔........ is there a better candidate for a talented bass player with a bad ego?
  18. (Inspired by @stewblack topic about Bass heaven) There's an old joke, based on crude outdated stereotypes unfortunately.....something like: In Heaven the cooks are French, the policemen are English, the mechanics are German, the lovers are Italian and the bankers are Swiss - whereas in Hell the cooks are English, the policemen are German, the mechanics are French, the lovers are Swiss and the bankers are Italian. However the format's OK......... so I had a bash at a bass player version: - In Heaven the bass players have the image of Sid Vicious, the playing ability of Carol Kaye and the ego of John Deacon. - In Hell the bass players have the image of John Deacon, The playing ability of Sid Vicious and the ego of Carol Kaye. Can anyone come up with a bass/musical version?
  19. The guys at Coopersonic had their own naming system.......... it's a bit risque, so hidden in a spoiler window - so view at risk:
  20. I only buy budget gear... so so it's a 'yes' from me!
  21. looks like a fan fret taken one step further😃!
  22. Not so much under-rated as completely erased from the bands history. Doug Yule - The Velvet Underground. He replaced John Cale, and supplied some cracking basslines.... but is never mentioned in VU history.
  23. JJ Burnel on my left. Bruce Foxton on my right. We’re all watching Steve Hanley of the Fall. Would be good Bruce and JJ to see the greatest bass player, but safe in the knowledge that their brilliance paved the way for him.
  24. I'm still getting to grips with playing ahead/behind the beat, but I heard this today and though maybe the drummer is playing the snare a bit behind the beat. Whatever , it has a great feel. So am I right, or do I need to go back to school ?
