  1. 😲 What do you mean a proper low G!!!! The re-entrant tuning is all part of the charm of the Ukulele...... IMO anyway. I guess low g does have it's place for the occasional song where you need the extra range, otherwise high G is the place to be 😉!
  2. Wasted Drummers? Insert here the name of drummer from a band you hate, but who is a decent drummer!
  3. So the story goes: Phil (thy animal) Taylor of Motorhead fell backwards from his drum stool off of a high stage. Doctors said his injuries did not include a fatal neck-break only because he was so drunk/wasted that his body was totally relaxed and he hit the ground like a rag doll. OK, if you want to be picky being drunk/wasted may have contributed to the fall in the first place !
  4. Seems like the right choice, hope it goes well. So how did you leave things with #2? As he was a close second, sounds like it would be good to somehow keep him on your radar.
  5. I never saw it at the time, but recently caught up with "The Detectorists" on iPlayer. It is centred around some metal detector users, and whilst I don't know anything about detecting, thay seems to have researched all the details, such as how the detectorists cut a 'plug' of soil out of the ground and then replace it afterwards. Those touches do add to the program IMO.
  6. I use a amp simulator whenever the PA allows it. Otherwise bring an amp/combo. Some have said that the amps enhance the visuals.... but having no amp gives me more room to move/pose/dance/jump etc.. I mean, what the audience rather look at.... more of me or a black box? Actually don't answer that!
  7. One of my favourite albums - Joanna Newsom, The Milk-Eyed Mender. She mainly accompanies herself on harp. Sometimes piano or harpsichord. Sample track - Sadie
  8. Under Me SlengTeng - Wayne Smith. Widely acknowledged as the first all-electronic reggae song - 1984. What do you think of the song... what do you think of the shift to electronics in reggae?
  9. I found my current band mates through the website ‘join my band’ - make sure you are clear about what you want in the advert (style of music, what instrument you play, occasional jam or world domination) and be patient with responders- they might not all be suitable.
  10. I bet they even complain about it on their internet chat forums!
  11. This might work for you - the Rockboard Power LT XL. It's a rechargeable power supply, designed for guitar pedals and it has 5v USB out (in addition to the obvious 9v outs) Power lasts pretty well, easily enough for a couple of gigs or rehearsals. I used to run about four pedals from mine. One less lead on stage was my reason for ownership. Available £35 from Thomann at the moment. [Disclaimer - mine eventually developed a fault which meant it had to be charged the same day as it was used, but could be a one off. I replaced it with a similar product available cheaper without the 5v out. The Rockboard was more than £35 at the time)
  12. Out of interest, what is the clock for? Keeping the set running to time? Telling the guitarist when his 5 minute solo is nearly up?
  13. I heard an interview with David Cassidy, and he was expressing the same thoughts as the OP.... about his fellow cast members in the Partridge Family. He lost count of how many times he had to say to Danny Bonaduce: "Danny the bass guitar is plucked, not strummed!"
  14. Musical Youth - Pass the Dutchie A Dutchie is a heavy cast iron cooking pot - not suitable for passing around from the left hand side, or indeed any other direction, and is more suited to central serving. Why didn't they simply replace the word "Dutchie" with an object which is commonly passed around?
  15. Yes, pretty annoying. Same in photograph shoots too. If you're an actor, surely you could somehow imitate? I mean hold down something that at least looks like a chord for example!!
  16. ha ha - great! I'd heard about this song (via the Adamski connection) a few times, but never got around to checking it out til now.... Thanks!
  17. I think I know the ones you mean..... an Irish band with a 60's kind of sound. I saw a documentary about them...... they were really good, but I think they got signed and then changed the sound a bit to something a bit more let's say sales friendly.
  18. Yes, still open to new music. In that I include: - Old music I never heard before - Old music which I used to dislike when I was young (e.g folk) - New artists making music based on the old music I like - New music in a new style. I guess only the last of those counts as entirely new, and although open to it, probably does represent the smaller part of my new music uptake
  19. I just heard his song on the radio, thought it was great (in a garage-y kind of way, YMMV) and googled to find out more. Was surprised it was a bunch of 11-13 year olds (Australian as it happens). I'd assumed it was a female garage band like Shonen Knife or something. "Isabella is Annoying" by the Rellies. Anything you love by a band of youngsters??? Let's say well under 16?
  20. Is Clapton mediocre? If mediocre means untalented then objectively no. If mediocre means unexciting or uninteresting then subjectively for me yes. You can make far more exiting blues-based music with far less talent the Clapton. Phoebe Bridgers - not really heard of her before but the song in the video was OK enough. "OK enough"..... maybe that's what mediocre means!
  21. Watching the 1981 film Babylon, with Brinsley Forde. Been on the hard drive for ages, but only got round to watching it now 😊!
  22. I only play the bass as a way of becoming a millionaire. If I won the lottery I wouldn't need a bass any more 😉.
  23. Not quite my bag in terms of musical style, but the guy is a great musician for sure. Pretty impressive that he did it after only one listen, but I get the feeling he would have done something pretty good even if he never heard it before! I think people sometimes equate music to notes and chords, and think rhythm is something else. Don't knock the drummer - a good one is they guy making the rest of the band sound good.
  24. I haven't won the lottery before, so I reckon I'm due a big win. Where can I get a ticket?
  25. Inspired by @Baxlin mentioning the Petersons, I've had a re-listen to this - Wayfaring Stranger by Hadye Bluegrass Orchestra. "Wayfaring Stranger" has been covered many many times, by many top artists..... but I reckon these Norwegian youngsters are the best of the bunch.
