Yeah, Leo got it right. The P is great, the J is great. Then the Stingray came along and made it even better.
Then of course Ned Steinberger then rocked everyone's world afterwards....

They are brilliant for the money, I had one in the same colour combo with the black scratch plate and it was great. It did sound slightly different, not in a bad way, to my 88 Ray suggesting serial wiring.

WITHDRAWN: Steinberger XL-2A (Immaculate Condition)

Don't forget a decent approximation of the nasal Jazz bridge tone so beloved of Jaco afficionados... Had a good laugh today, my 3 yo daughter comes into room, points at guitar rack and says "why does that black guitar not have turny things at end like the other ones? Me no like" - one of her favourite past times being twiddling the machine heads unbeknownst, so that you have fun detuning moments upon picking up a guitar. So also add, kid-proof tuning. A big benefit in my household -
Will get some more up tomorrow. Incidentally, I am in Glasgow around Noon tomorrow and could bring her along for a quick view on the southside if anyone around?
If this had been a couple months ago, you'd have had an interested party in that area. Strange how us Scots seem attracted to Steinbergers... Great bass, good lunch with the sale

Great deal with Paul for my 88 Ray. Great guy, clearly loves his basses, great to talk with and spot on for payment and communications. Enjoy the bass, I'm missing it already...

Big fan of the book Guy. Out of curiosity, did you ever get your stolen Steinberger L2 back and have you been tempted by another since? They're the bass equivalent of crack cocaine....
The Stingray is hands down the best bass guitar.
Well it's the best wooden bass for sure. Graphite, loving my 'Berger. I'm covered though having both...

A white scratchplate would set off the Honeyburst perfectly. Its my favourite Stingray 'burst and I speak as a Tobacco Burst 'Ray owner... Good score mate, nice to see you get one at last.

And a 36 hour Sunday bump with more photos. First off, neck comparison shot with my 2011 fretless showing colour and flame on neck: Next front/bottom edge shot where you can see the small dings on top bout, but VGC bottom edge with no damage: and finally an along the neck shot showing godd fret condition and straightness: Also, in response to few PMs looking for straight sale here, as I need the cash to fund the 'Berger you can see lurking menacingly in background in photo 1. Cheers. -

For sale, the best wooden fretted bass I've owned in about 28 years of playing. Selling because I also have much love for my 'Berger XL2, and can't justify having a large collection owing to non-gigging status/family commitments. I also have a 2EQ fretless to scratch my 2EQ 'Ray itch when the need arises.... Its a 1988 with serial 26413 (date from data on excellent serial number site). Its a black/maple colour combo with 2EQ - the best sound/look you can get IMHO. Probably the best feature is the neck which not only looks gorgeous with an awesome flame (as good as many a new Classic you'll see), but has a lovely aged amber tint. Also excellent is the fact theres no dings, chunks, scratches out the back of the neck whatsover - have seen a few threads and eBay listings where folk have stated that these "dont affect playability" - sorry would drive me postal. There is a lovely rounding off effect with natural age/playing on the side of the neck and its ultra comfy. Action is set high for my own personal preference, however there's bags of relief, and zero issues, so it can be dropped with no problem. The body is decent - couple of dings on front, very light buckle wear on back, but no major paint or finish chunks missing. Mutes on bridge are all present and correct albeit I don't use them for my style. There is a screw missing from the battery cover, however I understand these can be had easily from Strings and Things, and it functions perfectly well with the one. Price is a firm and fair £875 plus shipping, which is extraordinary value compared to what a modern Classic or pre EB will cost for what I reckon will sound at least as good and have as much mojo as either. Comes with servicable non-EBMM hard case. Bass is situated in Central Scotland handy for motorway network so happy to work something out collection or delivery wise if this suits buyer. Oh yes, photos... Sorry, stinking headcold-related brain fart...I meant Basses for sale forum http://basschat.co.uk/topic/204983-musicman-stingray-2eq-blackmaple-l700-incl-delivery/

There's a very decent 2EQ black/maple one on SC just now for £700 which is a good price, 2EQ being the way to go if you have the choice. If you wait a couple of weeks, there may also be an almost sexually good 1988 2EQ coming up on the block....

My new '84 Newburgh XL2. Import from France surreally enough, no duty . Couple of gel coat dings, apart from that zero fret wear and plays like butter. Delighted, rediscovering the joys of 20 second plus sustain....

The best wooden bass I've ever played, loved my first play on one back in 85 and love 'em now. The wooden qualifier is down to my newly arrived 'Berger XL2, which is sexual graphite sustain in a sofa playable format.
