there is a feature in protools that corrects this... and its name has escaped me... argh! i was using a protools 8 HD system though, it might not be on other versions

do you really need your sustain to be that long? how often do you let one ring note for more than a few seconds? x
Really, I would like to retain the acoustic bass sound from bronze strings. The Thomastiks are 60 quid though for a 6 string set, which is the only way I can see to get a hight C.
It will still sound like an acoustic bass if it has electric strings on it. It will be slightly different, but not so much that it wont sound like an acoustic anymore. Give it a go and you'll see what i mean. x
-
I tried one of these a few months back. It's a great improvement to the standard model, feels a lot nicer and sounds a lot clearer. well done gibson. x
Cool, I just looked on the Thomastik website and they actually do full 6 String acoustic bass sets! Would stringing an acoustic with steel flats cause a problem with tension? Somthing like this wouldn't bother me with electric as I know a fair bit about the technical stuff, but acoustic basses, I know NOTHING about really.
no you can string them with electric strings perfectly fine, you'll probably need to do a set up afterwards though. i would keep them medium/light though. i've actually been thinking about doing this myself. x

I'm selling this Digi 001 sound interface in perfect working order, which comes complete with the unit itself, the pci card, rack mouting ears, all cables, all instruction manuals and several versions of protools LE (ranging from 5.0 to 6.4 for both mac and pc) This is the perfect setup for a first/budget recording setup, full review here: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec99/articles/digi001.htm The unit has 8 analogue inputs (including two powered mic inputs). Here is some further info: Digi 001™ is a complete audio/MIDI, hardware/software solution in one box, packed with all the I/O options you need: eight channels of analog I/O, eight channels of ADAT optical I/O and two S/PDIF I/O channels, all at 24-bit resolution. It also comes with a built-in one-in, one-out MIDI interface, a footswitch input for QuickPunch control, an additional pair of analog monitor outputs and a headphone output with separate volume control. In addition, two of the eight analog inputs on Digi 001 include high-quality microphone pre-amplifiers with gain control and phantom power, reducing the need to incorporate a separate mixer. Just plug in an instrument or microphone, set the levels, and start recording. Since Digi 001 is an integrated hardware/software system, the only thing you'll need is an approved Macintosh or Windows computer with one available PCI slot, and an audio monitoring system.
