  1. I have several these options available to me, including the audio interface/DAW route, practice combo with headphone out, Zoom B1-4 and Nu-X Mighty Plug/Vox Amplug etc. For me the Nu-X provides the most convenient and accessible solution with the most features for a good price. I generally leave it plugged into the bass and just turn it on, plug in the headphones and off I go. The others have their benefits but there’s the inevitable messing around with different elements and cables so they’re less immediate to use. All of these suggestions have got me thinking though. Why don’t modern basses or guitars come with the equivalent of something like the Nu-X built in to their circuitry? It doesn’t seem like much of a stretch for an instrument with active electronics to incorporate a headphone driver which could be selected with a toggle switch to send the appropriate level to the output jack. Maybe such a thing already exists? I’m sure someone will enlighten me if it does.
  2. Another couple of threads that cover this subject:
  3. It’s not the end of the world but I wondered if the sign-out option could be moved down a bit to increase the space between it and the mark site read option?
  4. Thanks for posting that NMA clip. IIRC it was one of the few times a band like that played live on TOTP rather than miming. Raw and powerful.
  5. I received an email from Gerry Hayes at Haze Guitars with a link to a pdf he’s produced which contains pretty much everything you ever wanted to know about truss rods (59 pages!) It’s interesting and comprehensive and well worth a read if that’s your thing. https://hazeguitars.com/trussrodsmadeeasy/ You’ll need to provide your email address to access the download but I wouldn’t worry about that because you don’t get bombarded with emails and the few that he does send are genuinely useful.
  6. That’s a much neater job than my previous ham-fisted attempt. 😂 Actually, you’ve just reminded me that my bodge was supposed to be temporary until I fitted a new nut. I have the nut but never got around to fitting it. I must make the effort.
  7. Just bought a couple of bass bits from Kelpie. Exactly as described, reasonably priced, delivered quickly and great comms throughout. A pleasure to deal with. 🙂
  8. Thanks, I actually I did it again for the second time this morning. Fat finger syndrome 😂
  9. Is there any chance that the “Mark Site Read” and “Sign Out” menu options could be repositioned or spaced further apart? I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve accidentally signed out when I meant to mark the site read.
  10. It would be worth a quick check of the relief before you adjust it by holding the E string down at the first and last frets. There should be a very slight gap at the 7th/8th frets. However, if it changed suddenly then it might be indicative of other issues. Someone with more experience may be able to comment.
  11. Sounds like not enough relief in the neck. Have you changed the strings for a lighter gauge? Slackening the truss rod a touch may help.
  12. Definitely John Peel but also shows like The Tube on C4 and then reading NME and Melody Maker, taking a punt, buying records based on reviews, regretting some and loving others. MTV was before my time 😉
  13. Ha! You beat me to it. Although I’m suggesting a foot rather than a couple of inches. 😉
  14. When I was gigging many eons ago we assumed any cable problems were likely to be caused by issues near to the plugs due to the increased flexing at those points. A possible solution is to chop a foot off one end and re-solder the plug, try it again and if still an issue, chop a foot off the other end. After that chop the cable in half with a chance of possibly saving half of it.
  15. It’s never occurred to me to check what was number 1 when I was born. Just looked it up and it turns out it was Wonderful Land by The Shadows. Not too bad and certainly better than if I’d been born 10 days later when it was Nut Rocker by B. Bumble and The Stingers! 😂
  16. It’s a very nice case. If I lived a bit nearer I might be tempted. GLWTS
  17. My MIA P bass is 117cm long (including the strap button) and 32.5cm wide. I also have a non-fender Telecaster style guitar which is 20cm shorter but the body width is the same as the bass. I think a Jazz bass, allowing for the offset body is a couple of centimetres longer than the P bass. Based on your measurements I would say the case will fit a P bass.
  18. Probably because I was being deliberately obtuse in answering the question literally rather than in the spirit it was intended. It was supposed to be tongue in cheek. 😉
