Was just looking at this in the email they sent out. I’m just wondering how this will work with systems like the Waza Air and Nu-X Mighty Plug. Presumably they’d have to plug in to socket #2? Feels like it would be ungainly?

Apps or software for working out bass parts

I’ve been using Transcribe by Seventh String Software. However, I just had a look at Anytune Pro and Transcribe doesn’t seem to offer anything additional. -
Version 2 has side mounted jacks.

Could it be unlocked but just that the sliding bit is stiff or seized?

I got mine from G4M. Ordered at 1pm and it arrived before 9am the next day. Great service and a good price too.

The TC Unitune is very effective and, at around £20, very good value.

How do I tell my wife I just bought another bass?
Velarian replied to Rayman's topic in General Discussion
Assuming you already have other basses and that you can get the new one into the house unseen, then I’m a big fan of the hidden in plain sight trick (think of the scene in ET where he’s hiding in the closet amongst all the kids other toys when the mum looks in 😉). If an extra bass appearing is too obvious then use the ‘Colditz ghost prisoner’ technique where an existing bass is hidden away, say in a previously empty case (this works best if it’s the same colour). Then look for an opportunity to introduce the extra bass, for example when the wife has bought something extravagant. My wife’s penchant for expensive handbags provides me with good opportunities for this. When she says “what have you been buying now”, I just say “a new handbag dear”. Checkmate. 😂 -

Anyone got some? -
I went through this with some Jazz Bass knobs and got it wrong, twice! The first thing to establish is what are the pots you’ve had fitted. More specifically, the diameter of the shaft and are they solid or split shaft. If split shaft, how many splines? If you count the splines on each side you should add 1 per side to account for the spline which would have been where the gap is. Once you know the spec, it should be easier to find the right knobs.

Jaw droppingly good albums for bass players to hear

Gotta put a shout in for Stuart Morrow on this album: -
Funnily enough I had the same thoughts the other way round, putting a maple neck from a PB50 on a PB20. I’m pretty sure this wouldn’t work on Fender basses withou making changes because the shape of the neck/pocket on the earlier models was squared rather than rounded. Whether Harley Benton went to lengths of replicating the shapes in their examples is not clear from their web site. I kind of abandoned the idea before it got off the ground but it would still be interesting to know if it’s possible.

Irig pro i/o or other options for ampless practice
Velarian replied to budget bassist's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think you’ll find that won’t work at all. The latency will make it unplayable. The Boss Waza Air gets around this by using other non-Bluetooth wireless technology. The NuX MP-2 Mighty Plug is a good contender at around £50. It does has Bluetooth to connect a phone to as an aux device to stream music to play along to (where latency is not an issue) and to run the app that controls the device. -

Whilst it was lumped in with punk as a genre it really stood apart from others in that group IMO. The keyboards alone made it different and many songs had fairly traditional roots. Take the opening bass line from Princess of the Streets, which is basically a descending blues scale. -
That just happened to be my last acquisition of 2021 a couple of weeks ago. Not sure why I got it but I guess I was just satisfying curiosity and to beat my self-imposed anti-GAS embargo for next year.

I’ve also been planning a year of abstinence but then I remembered that I’ve put a deposit on a Backbeat II so I’ll probably be buying that at the very least.

Thanks for the recommendation. I’m just listening to this now. Really nice; haunting is a good description. 😊
