Julia Hofer said this was an uncomfortable bass to play. can’t think why 😂😂

How about “Skazz”?

Could it be playing with your thumb by the bridge with fingers resting on the body between the G and the controls?

This ^^^ Touch interface for consuming. WIMP interface for creating.

Here’s another review I came across a couple of days ago. I was impressed by how good it sounded and it seems like it would be a fun thing to have lying around just to pick and noodle about on.

Yes, I think they’re locating lug holes rather than screw holes. If the original tuners were like mine they don’t have screws.

It looks ok to me. My 2005 MIA p bass with Z51… serial number has a hex truss rod adjustment nut.

I think this may have been posted elsewhere before but it’s worth repeating here: https://hazeguitars.com/blog/the-perils-of-bad-neck-shims There are several other articles on this subject on his blog too. Worth a read.

Not seen those before. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the same as the adagios in a different packet. I’ve no need for any more at the moment as I’ve got a set of La Bella low tension flats winging their way to me, otherwise I’d try them for comparison.

Good shout on the “offer” price.

Well, I can say it works just fine, no issues at all, but I’ve not had chance to stretch it’s legs yet as I’ve been too busy with work in the run-up to me retiring on Friday. Next week though will be different matter, unless my wife has other plans, which I suspect she has! 😂

Indeed they will. Imagine what the market for vintage Fenders will like. Better invest now! 🤑

If the world population grows over the next 30 years at the same rate as the last 30 years, there will be circa 3bn more people on the planet. This is the unsustainable elephant in the room. Economising on laundry baskets or basses isn’t going to matter a jot. We’re all screwed.

Can’t argue with that 😉

🙋♂️Surely it’s just n+1<S (assuming you’ve already met the minimum value of n=3)?

Get a set of Adagio flats off eBay for less than £15. I tried some and was impressed by how good they are.

Bounded optimisation. It’s the future 😉

Those white pickup covers really look the part. How does it sound with the slanted pickups? Do you have any comparison with a standard Jazz?

I watched the Alan Hull documentary last night. Really very good 👍 Apart from the obvious Fog on the Tyne, there were so many other familiar songs that I’d not attributed to Lindisfarne, let alone the fact that Alan Hull was the centre of that band. It was good to shine a light on his musical genius. -
I’ve been following this thread with interest and whilst I don’t have any practical experience to offer, your frustration about how the track sounds caused me to ponder just how something like this could be improved. I agree with @justgone1that what you have produced is vey good indeed, I certainly couldn’t hope to achieve anything close. However, I get that there is a certain “je ne sais quoi” and it’s difficult to put your finger on what could be changed. @sammybee is right about making it a bit looser and more human and this reminded me of an interview with the late, great Lyle Mays talking about recording the title track for the “As Falls Wichita…” album with Pat Metheny which is largely synth based; he said “there was just something missing, it sounded dead. Synths will do that since there’s no air being moved. There’s no rush. There’s no aspect of the environment that’s in the sound.” They solved the problem by adding real sounds including percussion played by a real percussionist which provided an almost hypnotic counterpoint, along with some voices. You mentioned that the example track still needs vocals, so, as a start, that may make huge difference and provide more context for the track. I’d love to hear what else you might be able to do with this.

It needs a cutaway to allow access to the upper frets. Oh wait….

Interesting looking bass by the way. What is it?

Great question! I don’t have decades of playing experience and my memories of gigging back in the day are mixed - great fun playing but post-gig lugging equipment about late at night wasn’t my favourite thing. I’m rapidly approaching 60 and have come back to bass playing relatively recently after about a 35 year break. I was never very good the first time round so my goals right now are very simple; rediscover my past experience but apply better technique and expand my music theory knowledge, something I failed to address before. I hope to expand my repertoire and do some recording. After next week I’ll be retired so I’ll have plenty of opportunity to indulge in that. As for being in a band again and gigging, it’s not on my radar yet but as my playing confidence improves I may think about doing something informal if an opportunity comes up and it can remain just fun. Good luck with your resurgence, take it easy and have fun. Please report back after your gig.
