Looks like your guitarist might be wanting to muscle in on bass duties? Is that a Modern Vintage P-Bass on the right?

Any pitfalls for a beginner putting together a Bass?
Velarian replied to SumOne's topic in Build Diaries
I don’t have any knowledge of these but I can see that there is pre-drilled hole for the bridge ground. Therefore the chances are that there’s a hole drilled between the corner of the pickup route and the control cavity. This is how it was with P bass body I got from Northwest Guitars. -
Etsy is a good resource for stuff like this. https://www.etsy.com/uk/search?q=guitar knobs&ref=auto-1&as_prefix=guitar

Following the cliche: Precision 62, Sunburst, Tort, Rosewood

It’s known as a hootenanny strap button. https://www.bestbassgear.com/ebass/gear/hootenanny.html -
These go up to 11. What’s not to like? 😂

My last iPhone came with a USB C to C cable which was annoying because this was the first time they’d not actually included a charging plug; previous ones all having a USB A socket. However this solved the problem (£4 for a pack of three from Amazon).

I did this last year and it was a really enjoyable experience. In theory it sounds simple doesn’t it? Just bolt a few ready made bits together. In practice, depending on what bits you use and where they’re from it could be a little more involved than that and you may need to do a bit of fettling. Your first assumption that all J and P heel/neck pockets are the same is not necessarily true. I quickly discovered this with the cheap body I started out with. I ended up switching to a better quality body and that did turn out to be a perfect fit. However, I did have to plug and re drill the holes in the neck, which was a little learning curve, as was positioning and drilling the bridge mounting holes. I learned such a lot in the process of doing it and much of the information came from the good people here on BC. You may end up spending more than you intended (certainly more than buying a ready made bass), possibly including buying some tools, but the experience is worth it. Just go for it and post your progress here. We’ll be following with interest. Here’s my build thread for reference: - -
So now Happy Jack has a Mike Lull 5-string neck...

I’m unlikely to ever need this information but it’s a fascinating thread nonetheless. 🫠 -
Thanks for the link. That’s really useful.

Ah yes, the Steel Pulse incident. Most unpleasant. 😕 I think I was somewhere near the back so managed to avoid it. However, as you say it was a glorious day, clear blue skies, hot and sunny. -

Do you remember Big Country or were you well on your way by that time too? 😉 -
I’ve just been playing with the patch settings and have created your suggestion above. I’ve also had a look at the sharing function and if it’s worked, below is the QR code for that patch. The second QR code is for another patch I find myself using as it’s quite bright and modern sounding. I’m not sure if it’s one of the default patches or the result of some earlier tweaking I’ve done. I’d be interested to know if it sounds OK for others if anyone could try it.

I was at the Reading festival gig in 1983 and I agree that the Stranglers were a bit of a let down. Big Country on the other hand were amazing. -
Ditto, thanks

I too lost interest post-Hugh but my musical tastes had evolved in a different direction by that time so it felt right to move on. I did see them live a few times with Paul Roberts fronting when they were a five piece with John Ellis. I didn’t hate it and he’s accomplished in the frontman role, but that was the problem the Stranglers were not about having a flamboyant frontman leaping around. I think Baz Warne is a much better fit but I’ve not been particularly motivated to get back into them. However, as a result of this thread I will visit their later catalogue to see what I make of it. -
Has anyone tried the sharing feature on the might plug? I haven’t played much with tweaking patch settings so I’ve not really mastered getting the best out of the device yet. However, If anyone has any good custom patches it would be interesting to try something different.

Any mic geeks that can help identify this mic?

Possibly Shure SM61 or Electro-Voice 635? -
Does this help?

Ah, damn. The description suggested it might be Mac compatible.

The problem with the 3D cover was that it was colourful and sunny whereas the 2D one was dark with a sense of foreboding; far more in keeping with the mood of the album. Needless to say I only have the 2D one. 😉 -
Not midi but how about something like this:- https://www.amazon.co.uk/iKKEGOL-Control-Customized-Computer-Keyboard/dp/B01NAL3DV6 Essentially an external keyboard which has just one key which is a footswitch. I’m guessing that it would possible to map this key to the space bar on the MacBook?

My Peavy head in the early 80s had a fully parametric mid with a Q control. I’m not sure I made much use of it though.

That's amazing! Did they have the foresight to plan that or is it pure coincidence I wonder? -

The same thing happened with my nephew. He lost the whole of his monthly income in one night just after being paid and then tried to take his life because of the guilt. I bailed him out. Less than a year later he did it again despite all sorts of controls being supposedly put in place with the online betting companies. My sister bailed him out again. It impacts the victim’s wider family as well. 👿 He said he thought he could win some money to pay some debts because he’s “quite good at it”. Clearly he isn’t!
