1. The Yammies seem mighty popular, I gotta say. Dunno if that makes them industry standard tho
2.
My Maples are covered in Danish oil, it is not very hard at all, and no lacquer. Sound the same as other maple necks do though.
My Maples are covered in do-nut oil... ...and my Do-nuts are covered in maple syrup. Oh the irony... I just lick them clean.
3. Dave Vader Wow really? A rosewood neck with maple board? I had no idea they were common. I don't think I ever saw one. If they are only common on budget basses, do you reckon it's because the comination isn't good. brensabre79: Sounds like we agree on the differences between RW & maple. That was exactly my experience.
4. Maple is chosen for it's properties for the neck and rosewood for the fingerboard for different reasons. I don't think that making a rosewood neck with maple fingerboard would yeild a desirable neck tbh. Maybe an actual lutier could explain why that isn't done...? I have offered my opinion on a single Fender P with minimal differences ...Same body, same pick-ups the same strings, with a swapped out neck and I can say that, that was definitely enough for *me* to form an opinion. I have many basses which all sound different too, but I agree with what you say, that's not such a useful test for forming opinions.
5. yes maybe so... But if the construction method is common across all the RW necks, then it is one of the factors which answers the question of sound. The difference may not be in tha actual sound of the wood, and may well be in the construction.... but if there's a difference then it's there on em all. maybe the way to tell that would be a maple fb on a maple neck with the same construction as a rosewood? But whos got one of those?
6.
I used to have twin 2009 MIM Precisions with very close serial numbers - one white/maple, one black/rosewood - and with stock pickups, a new set of the same strings and (as close as feasible) the same setup, I have to admit that if there was any difference in tone it was too subtle for me to discern. I don't favour the feel of either wood over the other, so my choices are entirely based on aesthetic appeal in context.
See what I mean... Maybe there's a bit of placebo effect in it too. Maybe ones ears hear what they want to hear! (Talking about my own ears here) I think there's a difference, but maybe I should do the blindfold test to be sure... Interesting opinions here.
7.
Is this comparing two basses that are identical other than the fingerboard wood? Not being antagonistic by the way, just curious as I'm leaning more towards the angle that it's the complete bass that makes the tone. But that's just me trying to simplify things perhaps!
I have a fender P with 2 "identical" necks. One Rosewood and one Maple. (well, as identical as these will get if you get my drift.) I used to always buy Maple necks (for looks) and thought there wasn't much difference, and that even if there was I wouldn't be able to notice enough to care. I swapped necks around and found that there *is* quite an audible difference. The Maple is brighter and more aggressive sounding, maybe more *brittle* or *glassy* and the Rosewood is warmer and gives what I think of as the more vintage tone. It sits much better in the mix of my current band. So now I'm converted to Rosewood because I just like that sound better for my current situation. I've rehearsed with both of them and the maple doesn't sound worse, per-se. Just slightly different ...a bit more "up front". I hope that partly answers your question... (and bear in mind that these things are subjective, you may just disagree with my opinion, it doesn't make either of us wrong... The only way anyone *really* knows is to try it yourself and form your own opinion.
8. I dig this bass sooooo much! It's like the ultimate way to make a statement! Good luck with the sale buddy!
9. not professional enough to spell "professional" correctly though? lol ...Sorry dude, I just had to... I know it was just a slip of the keypad! Good luck finding your bassist! Oh, have a bonus bump on me too!
10. I purchased a phase 90 from Rich. Best comms possible and a great guy to boot. It arrived super fast too, which is always a bonus! Cheers buddy! Andy.
11. TC Polytune. Same as above, choose the mini if you don't mind running it from a powersupply.... I also own a Rackmount Korg 2000 and a Peterson Strobo-rack but my Polytune is the one that gets all the use.
12. I just bought a b3k a couple of weeks ago or I'd be all over this. Truly awesome pedals. IMHO
13. Buyers can easily arrange the courier if they really want... Parcel monkey collect if I understand right, and are cheap too. In fairness it's not something Ive done myself so maybe I should just be quiet! Good luck either way.
14. PM'd re-phase 90
15. I'll be watching this with interest as I'm wanting to do the same thing! Good Luck!
16. there's a very tasty looking blender in the Effects Pedals for sale secion right now. Never seen one 'used' on BC before, and nearly bought it myself! Still tempted in fact... Here: http://basschat.co.u...otic-x-blender/ (I hope I understood your needs right? Forgive me if not) Good luck! Andy
17.
EBS = Excellent Bass Stuff
Hah hah Well that's this thread ended then. There you have it!
18. What I managed to turn up, so far, is the "who is" information on the now defunct website. Got the guys name and managed to find his facebook page... Not got a reply to my message yet tho... The hunt is on... I was kinda hoping that someone on here knew a place where they'd still got one in stock! Fat chance eh! lol Cheers for the info tho mate. All useful stuff. The demo on you tube was where I saw it and liked what it did to the guys sound. Especially after he turns on the chorus...
19. anyone? Surely someone knows of such things? Am I the first bassist to claim to have heard of U-Sound? I can't believe that! I'm usually so far behind that the 80's ring and want me back.
20. it's true... I'm passionate. Some, or most, might say nerdy! lol ...but I like passionate better! Great doing business with you guys! Thanks for all your help and support.
21. I'm looking to get a "u-sound" yellow-Q pedal for my home studio. They're made in Moscow and it seems the web site is offline. Does anyone know where I can source one of these pedals. I know it's not strictly a bass pedal, but the forums have never let me down yet as a knowledge base, so I figured I'd give it a whirl. Thanks in advance everyone-anyone! Andy
22. The heart wants what the heart wants. I hope to god you don't miss it and spend the rest of your days searching for that elusive lost love....
23. A few months ago I bought a Squier P body from Mark. It was a *smooth* deal. The body was packed well and arrived next day! His comms were great too. Kept me informed all the way. The other day I was searching for a Jazz neck to fit that body, and Mark came to the rescue again! The second deal was as smooth as the first! So now I have all the parts for a great bass and didn't have to risk the shoddy sales on ebay! Cheers Buddy! Top bloke, top deals, I can't recommend highly enough!
24. Ah well spotted. It was the "one in and one out" remark which threw me. People don't usually put that in a trade situation because it goes without saying that a trade is a "one in one out" situation by nature. I was looking for a price because I'm fancying another Zon, not like many do, as a self-appointed forum "police" thing... ...but in fairness I had over-looked the "FT" even after scouring the ad for a price about 5 times. Still ...it's a free bump.
25. I can't see the price in this post. Am I missing something?
