Rack mounted tuners for 5 String bass
GremlinAndy replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yep I agree I have a Korg at the rehearsal room and it is great. Low B No prob. My Gig-rig has a Peterson Stroborack which I can heartily recommend! I have heard many owners of the Behrry be disappointed. -
Be v e r y careful how much you spend on LEDs otherwise you'll have spent more on them than the bass... Maybe a cheaper way to improve it would be to drill lots of holes all the way through the body. With enough holes, it will become *all* holes, and a pile of plastic drill swarfings... Throw those away and keep the holes. (Sorry but I had to bite back after the slight on my beloved Warwick brand.)
I'm after £75 but very open to offers on it, and I can ship at buyers expense. Cheers
And whereabouts in the UK, would you be for pick-up, if we could agree a price? I'm gonna offer £65 for a cash in the hand exchange... (As long as you're not too far away) That rust doesn't phase me!

1u power amp - whats my are my choices?
GremlinAndy replied to slaphappygarry's topic in Amps and Cabs
A rail to rail 'depth' of an SKB is 15 inches, and front rail to back lid is about 18 inches. A powersoft D series is about 17 inches. You don't need a torch light on stage and you don't need to shove your head or your arm into the rear the rack case.
Yeah, there you go. Exactly! ...What I said but put way more eloquently. -

1u power amp - whats my are my choices?
GremlinAndy replied to slaphappygarry's topic in Amps and Cabs
That's true. They (the Powersoft amps) are VERY deep. They *will* fit in a Gator Rack, but they stick out of the back quite a long way into the lid... However, in fairness, the space behind amps is usually a wasted space, so 1U high *is* a bonus, even on a deep amp. You pays your money you takes your choice! Andy
Bear in mind that a high power 1U amp will tend to be of significant depth whilst a similar 2U amp can be a lot shallower so the total racked volume may be the same. The QSC PLX and PLX2 amps are all around 20lbs or less and hit a great balance of price vs size/weight/features/power. The Crown XTi amps are also well worth looking at as they're even cheaper and lighter and have built in DSP. Alex
-

Mine currently has 18v barts, and the sound is less lovely than he 4's with MECs ...Oooh will they run with 18v? or will I need a new pre too? C'mon John... I need your knowledge buddy! If these are compatible with my Thumb I'll take them off yooz! Andy -
1u power amp - whats my are my choices?
GremlinAndy replied to slaphappygarry's topic in Amps and Cabs
Powersoft amps seem quite difficult to get hold of over here. Sennheiser UK supposedly distribute them, but they are useless!
Mine came from Electro Music in Doncaster. I don't think it was a stock item but arrived really quickly. I can heartedly recommend them too. Light, but exceptional quality. Downside: Fairly expensive. (But not *really*, I mean, back in the early 80's, a very general rule of thumb was that amps used to cost about a pound per watt. ie 300watt cost £300 to buy (ish) yet even after 30 years of inflation the powersofts cost WAY less than £1 per watt...) but then they *are* a lot of watts! -
I can recommend Steve.. He's a smashing fella. He was good enough to meet me halfway at no extra cost when I bought the Epi 212... We got to gassing about old times and although our paths have never crossed I went away feeling like I'd re-united with an old buddy. Top Bloke... Andy
Yes, as far as I'm concerned this bass is sold (to me!) but you'll have to get confirmation from the current owner
Nope mate, It's all good! (I thought you'd backed out, but after my post I realised I'd got the wrong end of the stick) I'll be waiting in the wings in the unlikely event you change your mind. I've been after a nice Status since... well, ...since i fist saw them. And I have the finances to actually afford one now. My search for the right one will have to continue. (I am a Warwick man for a while longer) -
Yes, mate! Everything except for the missus... Norfolk bird, anyone?
I'm just wondering, does that mean this is *NOT* a done deal? If this is not sold (of course I don't want to tread on any toes) I will DEFINITELY take it. It looks like the very thing I've been looking for. PM Sent with my contact details... EDIT: Sorry I misunderstood the message. (I thought you were saying the Missus wasn't letting you buy it... Doh) I am interested in this bass in the extreme, but if I now have it right, it's sold... <Sigh> -

looking for an amp tech in/near sheffield!
GremlinAndy replied to umph's topic in Repairs and Technical
Pete Hartley is a bit of an electronics savant. He has been around for time. His notoriety is larger than Sheffield and I've NEVER heard a bad word said by anyone about his ability. He mods Marshalls and makes them better.... I could go on. -
Change colour of pickup with silver pen?
GremlinAndy replied to cetera's topic in Repairs and Technical
Cheers for the replies chaps..... very helpful! Anyone else before I jump in....
Well I duno how well this would work but if you go to hobby shops they sell an adhesive backed metal foil which is *very thin* compared to actual baco-foil. It's fairly cheap for a single sheet. It comes in various metalic finishes like brass, gold, bronze, silver, chrome... Might be worth a try. They also do a silver paint in a tube (Like toothpaste) which you apply with a cloth. This I *have* tried on black plastic, but because it's oil based it takes a long time to dry, but the result is VERY good and VERY metallic. Also the finish is very even... and wont wear like spray paint might, as it seems to put a permanent layer on the surface. Let me know if you decide to give it a whirl, and how you get on.... P.S. I just did a search to try to find it, and came up with this... NOT what I had in mind, but MIGHT be worth a punt. TC Electronic G Force and Powersoft power amps
GremlinAndy replied to Dood's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Just spotted this guy selling some items. The Gforce is an amazing effects unit. I have had mine YEARS and it still blows the competition away! As for powersoft amps.. louder, more powerful and lighter than the competition ;o) http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZstereonline
+1 on the Powersoft. Can't go wrong. MASSIVE, yet light and small, amps! -
only last week I lost out on a *done deal* because the owner decided he had underpriced the bass. I think this kind of thing is par for the course on a *friendly* forum. You just have to let it go. Or make a higher offer.. CORRECTION: The seller didn't sell at the expected higher price so I picked up a '96 NT 5 thumb for £750. Pleased as punch! Right now is a REALLY bad time for selling Warwicks I'm afraid to say (well, no, I'm pleased as a buyer)

I had a Jazz, and a Precision at the same time for about 4 years back in the early eighties. the 'P' was Black with black scratch plate, (so fecking cool for rock) ...where the 'J' was 'blonde' and pretty, erm, ...vanilla. However my P remained pretty much in the case that whole time. 'Nuff said!
