6.
When I first started, I was scared to use my little finger, as it was uncontrollable and uncomfortable but I'm glad I peresivered. How do you use your plucking fingers, or do you use a plec? Keep up the hard work...next step, "Music Theory"
I'm alternating between my first finger and index finger on my right hand and they've been a right pair of pluckers at times I can tell you . I haven't given the idea of using a plectum any real thought as yet, no doubt preferences will transpire as I progress Steve.
7. Ya Know, since I joined this board at Xmas I've been really impressed with the help and advice given to me by you guys on the occasions that I've needed it since starting out on my Bass experience, your all an inspiration and it helps greatly as I continue with my initial tentative steps, thanks guys. After the first 3 months and continuing finger excersises I have found that my little finger is getting a little more co operative as I practice and "dabble". On a couple of my practice pieces it is now becoming "second nature" without any real problem. When I first picked up my Bass at New Year any thought of little finger involvement would grind the whole process to a halt. After many thoughts of "I'll never manage that" and "Bugger this" during Jan and Feb, I am delighted to say I'm chuffed and pleased with my small but positive step. Did anyone else struggle similarly?

hi everyone

Hello from not too far away Derbyshire.
9.
Hi All!! Really excited just got back from buying my first bass ever! Guy at shop (Andertons Music Company) was really helpful not BULL. Said the sort of money I was willing to spend and we went from there. So I got in the end an Ibanez SR400 in (he said a Limited edition colour) Charcoal Brown. Looks slush. What are peoples experience/opinions on this Bass. Also bought a 10 inch Ashdown amp. Got to learn how to play now! God help me. Reece
Hello, I'm new to all this as well. I've got an Ibanez soundgear (active) and I'm loving every minute of it and making slow but sure progress. You will be fine here on Basschat, everybody's so helpful.
10. Eyup, mi duck. (Hello and welcome from Derbyshire).
11.
I've PM'd him with a few questions about whether his straplocks could be used as a temporary measure to fix my garden gate to the wall with coachbolts
Don't forget, it may save your neck !!
12. The "Hand crafted glass wine bottle guitar slide" gets my vote. It's amazing what can be done with an empty wine bottle, an angle grinder and a diamond tipped cutting wheel.
13.
and it made a noise like a farting morris minor.LMAO
Not heard that sound for years
14. Has anyone any idea as to how he produce that raw throaty dry sound as featured in most of the bands early offerings ?

Effects loop

Ok folks please bear with my naivety as I'm still finding my way around my amp. I have a Fender Rumble 25w and it is fitted with an effects loop. would I be correct in assuming that these two jack sockets are for the supply and return of an effects pedal. Thanks in advance.
16. "Other" for me also, I'm new to all this but I'm thoroughly enjoying myself with my Ibanez.
17. Thanks folks.
18. The String height on my Ibanez GSR200, I've noticed that E and the G string are noticeably lower in height than me middle strings (not a lot though). Is there a set pattern with string height or is it down to the preference of the individual as to what's comfortable ?. I have noticed eight teeny weeny adjusters (2 per string) which I think maybe adjust the height. Is adjustment easy or do the more learned and experienced members recommend that I keep my fingers out of it ? What's all the string height about anyway ?. Please excuse my Uneducated state of Boxgroveness
19. A daft question maybe, but if I don't ask, I aint gonna progress. After almost a month I am gradually navigating my way round my 4 string Ibanez (It's an entire culture away from my old 6 string acoustic , however the entire process of learning again is really mellowing and a pleasure) My question is, up at the machine head end, the strings have a knarled red outer coating as they proceed into and around the winder, Is this purely to aid grip and eliminate slippage, or does it do something else ?. Thanks in advance
20. What cleaning and maintenance do you guys recommend for Guitars? Any tips or particular products?
21. Well, thank god i ain't stuck in the animal pound waitin for some self appointed middle classed tosser to adopt me

Hey There

Hello Mikey, I found that my local independent music shop wouldn't budge on price regarding some items whilst I was looking for my (recently aquired) first bass, a proper "Take it or leave it....thats the price" approach was what they had. I got a good deal from the Music Room (Notts) in the end. Go for the larger suppliers, I think they may be a bit more receptive to a bit of a barter.
24.
Welcome, Jon. I'd check out Yamaha and Ibanez basses too - great value.
Yeah, I have done. when I got to The Music Store in Notts I had a look at the Squire Basses and the Vibe somehow made me feel awkward (maybe it's my beer gut in the way!!!! ) when on the strap, but it was fine perched on my knee whilst seated. They also had an Ibanez GSR200, this I tried for comfort and it liked me..............I purchased it ...........it's me first bass and I'm as happy as a dog with two d*cks. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcomes and advice given to me regarding possible buys and where to look etc.
