Massive inspiration for me as a youth and fledgling bassist. Wish him nothing but the best.

Why does Scott Devine hate Sadowsky basses?
warwickhunt replied to TheGhostofJaco's topic in Bass Guitars
Let's be honest though, every single one of those bassists has also endorsed different manufacturer as well! -
That is pretty much the angle I am coming from as the system we put together is just for us to have control of the IEM mix, as opposed to being reliant on (harassed) multi-band event engineers or in-house engineers who are just not familiar with the band. I'm pushing for us to have pairs/stereo outs for the IE. However, the X32 is the front runner and it can't do 6 stereo (or pairs) of outs; the other lads in the band don't think it is a deal breaker so maybe I'll just ask if I can have stereo even if they don't!

Why does Scott Devine hate Sadowsky basses?
warwickhunt replied to TheGhostofJaco's topic in Bass Guitars
Well he came to my house maybe 17-18 years ago to potentially buy my USA Sadowsky... and he didn't; despite having driven a few hundred miles to get to me! Maybe my bass tarnished it for him! -
Quick resurrection of this thread as my head is done in by recent band discussions. LOL We are a 6 piece INXS tribute band (info for context) consisting of: drummer, vocalist (main), bass, guitar, keys/guitar, sax. However, 5 of us do vocals (inc main vocal) and the keys (he uses 1 at the moment but would like to use 2) + guitars 'may' need to be stereo. x5 vocals x1 bass x2 guitars (poss stereo) x1 (poss 2) keys (poss stereo) x1 sax Drums (mic'd kit + sample pad) By my reckoning the bare minimum (if drums just use 3 mics and a single feed for the pad) inputs we need is 14 (with 1 keys) BUT if we go more drum mics, stereo on 2 sets of keys and stereo on both guitars (Helix) we are looking at 21 channels. What are our options for affordable (sub £1000) interfaces/desks, that will allow us to do our own mixes? This is purely for use as a unit for us to take to venues/festivals and get us a consistent IE mix without being reliant on engineers who are dealing with enough without have to mix 5 picky band members + a chilled bassist? We need to budget for rackmount splitters in a case and snakes/looms but not for individual IE transmitters as we all already own those for use with other/previous bands. Cheers folks any info gratefully received and processed.

I bought one when my Boss chorus died and it was 95% as good... probably better at tracking slightly lower than the Boss. I bought a Zoom MS50B multi-effects to do what 3-4 pedals were doing hence this didn't get much use but it was as good as any of the sub £100 pedals.

Black plate looks good!

Look further... Less than £30 new.

I sourced and use a PA similar to your suggestions, for use with our pub/club rock covers band. I elected (after much research and questioning, especially of fellow BCers) to buy a pair of lightly used QSC K10 (active version 1) speakers and a used FBT 15" active sub (with an A&H CQ12 desk). It is more than capable of handling the whole band inc my bass with zero backline for me. I've never found it lacking in anything but the largest 'club' rooms; where I 'possibly' could have overcome with a 2nd sub. Using HPF on the whole PA + further filtering on some instruments has been a revelation. 30 - 40 years ago I'd never have considered taking out the lowest lows in my bass rig or PA... why would you take out bass? However, the extra punch and clarity I now get with the use of HPFs is superb. The A&H desk allows me to parametrically EQ individual channels and the whole sound, likewise HPFs available on every channel. The added benefit/bonus is that the QSC K10s makes an excellent vocal and/or bass monitor (I've used a single QSC10, with a preamp pedal as my bass rig on many occasions).

Not purchased as yet, we are looking at getting our own X32 and pair of 8 splitters; we already own our own individual IEM systems. Be sure to budget for the leads/connects/snake(s)! I believe there's actually a system for sale here on BC.
-
Exactly that and it's not an uncommon config. We've done gigs where we turn up (no backline) and present our 5 vocals, 4 drums, 6 instruments, 1 drum trigger and requiring 6 IEM feeds and venues have been overwhelmed, the IE always suffers; which is a mare if you have NO backline.
-
Are you talking about the band processing all of the feeds and splitting them; 1 split sent to the FOH system/engineer and other split going to a desk/processor that you all then sort your own mixes out? We are doing this and it isn't uncommon BUT we (6 piece band) are looking at £1500 just to split/process our feeds (inc cables). All band members have their own IEM systems to connect to our mix/processor (Sennheiser, Xvive MiPro), so that isn't factored into the budget but would likely be another £2800.

Breaking the E string when fitting...
warwickhunt replied to tom1946's topic in Repairs and Technical
I have a 34" scale bass with skinny posts placed very close the the nut and regular strings do not like the acute angle that they wrap around the post... as a result I can NOT put flats on that bass. I'm guessing it is similar with your Mezzo; it needs the skinny taper on 32" scale strings, 34" scales will be too 'fat'! -
That's the one!

There was a Swedish rock band doing ABBA songs in the rock music genre/style... entertaining for 30 seconds per song; they might have even done rock songs in an ABBA style!
-
Anecdotal but I transitioned between full bass rig to IEM (no backline) via using my chosen preamp pedal (Fishman Platinum Pro) into a QSC 10 mounted on a speaker stand to my side of the stage (obviously PA doing all the heavy lifting). The sounded that I had to work with was far better than I expected and I occasionally default back to this set up when I've doubts about the quality of the engineer/PA to supply a good IEM mix... I've not reverted back to full backline, which surprises me (40+ years of relying on backline, often to carry FOH).

I'd guess that our Cheap Trick tribute 'Cheat Trick' will be the most known obscure tribute on BC!

My tip on setting up the bridge - make yourself familiar with the grub screw that 'locks' the saddle!
