  1. You can... you simply turn down the output/volume!
  2. LOL of course. Well if it wants to come home I have space... in fact I can find space for them both.
  3. What a coincidence, I was just saying to another BCer the other day that I remember seeing an identical bass back in the late 80's early 90's in Newcastle... I don't suppose this came from the NE?
  4. His tone, tuning, playing style etc. didn't phase/bother me (each to his own) but it battered my head in when he named the fret numbers... and my ears just didn't match the tones with what (barely) came out of the speakers.
  5. I need to sort out my 5 / 7 / 4 frets before I do anything.
  6. So this is where I've been going wrong all these years... my frets aren't where they should be.
  7. I'll make comparisons with similar period Stage I + II basses as changes in country of manufacture of late and use of alternative sustainable woods, will vary slightly but remains effectively true. Stage I - 5 piece thru neck (maple/wenge alternate) with 2 solid maple wings (no sandwich fillers, no other joints), PJ pups and wenge fingerboard. Stage II - 7 piece thru neck (wenge) with a matching centre cap to hide the neck thru, bubinga wings, JJ pups and wenge fingerboard. Streamer 1990 Ltd Ed - 3 piece thru neck (all maple) with body wings of birds eye maple sandwiched with a dark wood (for the life of me I can't be sure what this is but as they used a lot of wenge I'd guess at that but have a niggling doubt it is a softer more manageable wood) so that each 'wing' is made of a front and back side with sandwich and the wings also have this sandwich attaching to centre section, Soapbar pups and ebony fingerboard. I think it is the use of the denser body woods, all maple neck and bart SB pups (possibly ebony fingerboard) that give this model a very distinct voice.
  8. 3 yr warranty as standard with Thomann (@ no extra cost) + 30 day return... for a couple quid less than G4M and available in a week rather than 3 mths!
  9. You're right that it doesn't predate the SSI / SSII (1990 the Streamer PJ was defo called Stage I) but it's a case of it isn't technically either of those; it is a Streamer body style/outline but the pup config and construction (+ebony board) make it neither a SSI or SSII. Anyone who is a fan of the body shape (why wouldn't you be) but didn't like the sound of Stage I or II should try this as they have a lovely tone, very different from the other Streamers. GLWTS
  10. I have an identical one; I say identical... mine isn't as clean.
  11. The early basses predate JAN and were solid brass as per this, dab of glue req'd.
  12. When a small 'footprint' is vital, my cabs work! What you can't see is that the PA speakers are on stands just out of sight left/right... had to play and sing turned sideways and the guitarist couldn't play above the 14th fret or he'd hit the ride!
  13. You need to change your profile picture mate!
  14. My concern would be the 3mth period; iirc that is the limitation for a claim via paypal (or is it 30 days) and could well make it tricky with a credit card. I wonder if the presale thing is so that they can then bulk buy with a known/guaranteed number of units... if they don't hit the number required to get discount, just bail on the offer.
  15. Where do you stand if you order (and pay I presume) now for an end of January delivery and they renege on the deal, discontinue or go bust etc? If you pay by card it'll have been over 3 mths since order, would you easily get a refund? Added to which the company taking your order has had it (and all the other orders) for 3 months, nice to have money and make interest.
  16. Last night... ANGEL (70's early 80's USA pomp rock) or at least 2 of the main guys! Surreal to say the least; a band that in its heyday were playing USA stadiums as prodigies of KISS, with Frank Zappa writing (ridiculing) a song about the guitarist Punky Meadows... and there they were playing in my local rock bar (UK/Newcastle) to 100 fans.
  17. Despite the couriers best attempts to ruin stuff, Nik and I got sorted (testament to Nik's perseverance). Great comms and highly recommended.
  18. Original Patrick Eggle case in generally good condition. Please note this does not fit a standard Strat sized guitar; PE guitars are smaller bodied and shorter headstock. Has the original key and all locks work. Collection from North East or can post at cost.
  19. Did you get an accurate weight?
  20. Formerly Known (as) Altus - FNA. I was around (and sober enough) to remember this silly anecdote 1st hand.
  21. A few quick questions; what's the width of the present neck, do you have the previous neck, where are you and what does the bass weigh?
  22. LOL Just found this! Yes Lee does tend to like it loud but you're lucky you didn't have our regular drummer in... he's harder/louder. Might be an opportunity coming up for you to dep for me again, ideal opportunity to see how your R400 handles it.
  23. Has anyone asked for the weight... can I?
  24. I had a carbon neck B2 and yes the board was fairly flat but I recall the neck finish was obvs smooth but don't recall it being satin or slippy/silky; it had quite a glossy neck and I've had wooden necked/lacquered basses that were slicker.
