Read post #1... patently the OP was NOT happy at the time. Aside from whether the OP has changed his mind in the interim doesn't deflect from the fact that you committed to an ebay sale and then when you didn't get what you wanted you (politely) welched on a contract.
Anymore insults against each other here and this thread goes down the pan.
'insults' TBH I've heard worse when one of the parties wasn't a BCer... is it a case of differing standards because the person discussed is a BCer. I assume the thread will remain open if the merits of reneging on a deal are further discussed?
I understand that it is not a popular decision to bail out of a sale, but fiatcoupe was fine with it and we talked out the situation and ended on a friendly basis. Please take note from this and dont witch hunt until both sides are heard. I have a decent reputation on here, and don't really want it destroyed over a misunderstanding.
Sorry Russ but it isn't a case of witch-hunt or a misunderstanding, though 'scumbag' may be a strong term. However, you backing out of a legitimate ebay sale is wrong... period! You don't seem to be disputing this fact so the OP is well within his rights to have posted about his grievance. Whether the fact that you are a BCer has changed his view on the sale is between the two of you. Just saying!

To be clear... ebay works whereby you list something and if it reaches a minimum amount you sell it to that person; any deviation from that is breaching a moral and legal contract. Simples! Now the minimum amount is set by the seller. Absolutely no other person decides that and it can work one of three ways; i) you set an amount that it sells for no more, no less - Buy It Now. ii) you set a reserve amount and if it doesn't reach this, you don't have to sell it. iii) you sell it with no reserve and you get as much as the highest bidder wishes to bid (as happened in this case). There is no witch-hunt... a buyer (or not as the case may be) came on here asking for 'help' or advise on what to do; the sellers 'honesty' about refusing to sell it has nothing to do with it and apart from anything else he could have been fishing for the buyer to revise his offer up over. Added to which he needs the buyers support to cancel the sale because if he doesn't then the seller doesn't get his fees back. Me personally, I'd pay through paypal, demand the money back if he doesn't sell it and then leave negative feedback. Sorry if this sounds harsh or offends the seller but it's a lesson in life! Circumvention of ebay's BIN or reserve fees is dishonest. Not selling to someone who went to the trouble of watching and bidding on an item with the expectation that they'd get said item if they won, is morally wrong.
Leaving negative feedback will actually achieve nothing. The OP still won't have the bass, at the moment he could probably still get it by contacting the seller. Why cause unnessessary bad feeling ?
The ebay system is built on feedback and it is the only means of establishing how trustworthy someone is; by not leaving 'appropriate' feedback you are defeating the whole point of feedback, 'not' leaving appropriate feedback achieves a lot less than the converse. TBH you can actually lawfully pursue someone to sell you an item that you have won on ebay, when you sign up to ebay it is part of the T&C, in theory no one ever does because it isn't worth the hassle. This is quite a cut and dry matter; the seller has stated categorically that he wanted more than he got (should have put a reserve on then) and as a result won't sell, ergo, breach of contract and deserves neg. It isn't like he has suddenly contracted a terminal illness or had a death in the family and as a result couldn't contact the buyer.

Send ebay a copy of his correspondence and leave him negative. I realise that he may be a BCer and read this but it isn't any advice I wouldn't give whether he was or not. ebay may give him a warning for attempting to circumvent their fees or if this has happened before (how will they know if people don't report it) then he may get blocked from ebay; your negative feedback would be justified so long as you keep it appropriate and factual... then move on!

I own/have owned, a 'few' ( ) basses that cost quite a few thousand (I bought them used so didn't pay the eye-watering prices they were new). However, the 2 basses that I play the most, through choice, cost me less than £500. That is despite the fact that I have other basses that I own that would still cost you in excess of your £1000 budget. Why do I not sell the other more expensive basses... that's likely a whole new thread. Yes £1000 is a great budget... for TWO good basses!

Extremely low noise characteristics eliminate the annoying background hum and buzz typical of conventional pickups, and with no magnetic field pulling on the strings, sustain is natural, like a Grand Piano. Highly sensitive to even the most subtle nuances, the LightWave Pickup delivers the true sound of the strings, the instrument, and your playing.Chambered Body." Excellent feeling, playing and sounding bass. If you've ever been frustrated by noise from pups/preamp or dodgy electrics then you'll be chuffed to bits as there is no issue with noise! It doesn't sound dissimilar to a trad magnetic pup loaded bass and tbh you'd genuinely not be able to hear a massive difference... other than no interference. It has piezo transducers as well as the sensors but this system can't be used solo, it needs to be blended (0-100%) with the other system. Comes supplied with the original Lightwave gigbag, TWO power supplies (one 240v UK, the other 110v) and instruction booklet, which includes how to set-up the sensors (this is a doddle with coloured LEDs to indicate when optimum); this means you can use any gauge/type of strings inc' nylon if you should wish. Very good condition other than one small chip through the black paint which is on the bottom of the bass and not visible from the front. Some light swirling on the front from fingers etc. The bass can be played for a full 12hrs before a recharge... I've tested this and it is exactly as the manufacturers state, in fact I charged it after 12hrs and it was still going strong! The bass can be played whilst charging (in emergency) but as it only takes a couple of hours to fully charge it's not been required to by me. Neck is maple topped with rosewood and the body is chambered so no weight issues. Just to act as a barometer for those not involved and a neutral 3rd party. You won the item on 13th, it was marked as dispatched on 20th to be delivered on 23rd and between then and 28th you've opened a dispute. I'm sure to you this seems like forever and should have been sorted in days but it isn't a massive amount of time. In fact you must have been tight to the ebay deadlines for making claims and certainly Royal Mail (if that is who the seller used) won't entertain a claim for a lost item just yet. It may be frustrating but for all anyone knows there could be a multitude of reasons for his lack of response; a family bereavement, holiday, loss of job, Internet down, divorce... he could be a useless twazzer mind but we don't know for sure! If you've paid by paypal and a claim is open, he'll have his allotted time and a few warnings then you'll get a full refund and if the item has arrived in the meantime, then you have the moral dilemma of do you return the item to him or pay back the money.

Weighing a bass - a difficult task?
warwickhunt replied to wateroftyne's topic in General Discussion
Seriously though, if it's common make of bass odds are somewhere online will be weight. Or someone on BC might have one... They might be so kind as to weigh theirs
e.g. Lakland DJ4 8lb 1oz - 10lb 3oz not guesses but basses I have actually owned and weighed accurately. At one end of the scale very comfortable to play for a couple of sets... the other = shoulder pains for 3 days after. -
They don't. They are 'yin yang' decals, applied by a previous owner. Not sure they are going to stay...thinking a full set of Sims leds in green would look killer on this bass.
If they are stickers just remove and leave alone! If you are thinking of getting LEDs fitted just sell it to me as is and buy something with LEDs!
Aria Sinsonido, should be able to pick one up for under £200 and you won't find much lighter than that!
+1 I can't play a heavy bass and though my Aria isn't now my main bass, it helped me through the worst.

Another Google Calendar recommendation and ANOTHER warning that it is only as good as the people using it! It's a PITA for me as one of our band members just basically emails me when he has unavailable dates and expects me to update... he's using email FFS it is just as easy to log onto the calendar! I'm trialling a 'Doodle' poll which just entails putting a tick in a box when you aren't available (which is all I need to know for planning on booking gigs).
1991-3 ish didn't the hard wear go from brass Warwick branded made by Schaller to an alloy not made by Schaller?
Size of the actual bridge assembly also changed as well Luke but only really a problem if you try and buy a replacement and forget to check the size! Things like straplock fittings/type and battery compartments have also changed over time but again, no issue other than replacements... OH and the battery compartment will have at least one broken tag or will be held in with gaffa tape.

Where to start...   The good thing is, you'll not find any dodgy 'fakes' as you can get with Fender. Since inception in 82 till now, the overall bass has changed in quite a few ways;

Neck woods have gone from predominantly wenge to maple (3-9 piece depending on era), earliest basses had pencil thin necks then in the mid/late 80's they fattened out a bit
Body woods have gone from Cherry wood to Maple, with a wood called Anegre possibly in there somewhere. Likewise the bodies started very slim (front to back), thickening up into the late 80's; adding weight in the process (weight varies from just under 8lb to about 9.5lb)
Electronics from 2-3 band and can be from a multitude of manufacturers but predominantly MEC, pups likewise from Alembic/EMG/SD/Bartolini/MEC... and others. You occasionally get preamp failures but no worse than any other manufacturers.
The nut has gone from a single solid brass affair through 3 evolutions of the JAN unit (many of which have bits that break off but that still works)
Truss rod material has changed and some early basses had breaks but these should all be resolved by now.
Bridges were one piece Shaller then 2 piece Warwick units (some saddle units can rust if not looked after but easily replaced)
Jack sockets are made of chocolate and will likely have been replaced if the bassis more than a couple years old
There are probably more changes and as and when I think I'll post back.
