1.
Pm coming your way Marcus
I 'think' this was spoken for just a little earlier today on a NE FB group... though I could be wrong!
2. I've owned Metro and NYC basses and aside from the beautiful figured wood on the NYC, I'm not 100% sure that I would order a 'new' one over a new Metro! I'd most certainly take a used NYC over a used Metro... probably! Sorry if that doesn't help. One thing is that the NYC was the lightest Jazz derivative bass that I have ever experienced (almost to the point it was too light and the headstock 'might' just have been dipping when on certain straps) but the Metro basses weren't boat anchors by any means.
3. IMHO if your 350w isn't enough to be heard over the band then 'everyone' is likely playing too loud, which in turn means that if you want to continue playing at those volumes then you may need to look at upgrading your PA so that it can handle the job of amplifying the band and your combo can go back to its job of being a monitor for the bass. Just an outsiders view of the 'likely' issues.
4. Parker P38 owner and former owner of a Parker Fly bass... the guitar is way better than the bass yet the guitar cost about 1/10th of the bass! LOL The guitar is light, resonant and just simply a joy to play. The bass was a fine instrument but the proportions just weren't right in my mind (the neck was one of the skinniest).
5.
theres a balanced DI output there as well I spy. what more would you have on a preamp? I don't think the hellborg has more does it?
Doh! Thought it was an 'amp' as opposed to a pre!
6. Has it really only got a 1/4" output connection?
7.
I also wouldn't be at all surprised if the Czech -made Spectors sounded almost identical to the USA -made basses.
Having owned several Euro models (Mk I & II versions) and a full blown USA NS2, there isn't a massive amount in it... if anything! Common sense will dictate that if both are made by the same process, using the same woods/hardware etc then the actual country the work is done in can have no affect on the tone. Differences in preamp can account for some variation... though they can easily be swapped out and 'hand-finishing' by a luthier as opposed to a factory worker might make for a better finished instrument but I'd not be staking my mortgage payments in a blind-fold test!
8.
Is that right though 500 watts is only twice as loud as 50?
In pure mathematical terms, yes; you need to x10 to get x2 volume. However, in real terms it will sound way louder than twice your existing 50w. The other thing to take into consideration is speaker numbers and their sensitivity.
9. I'd not worry at all; you can get as good a sound at house volume as you can cranked. TBH you are better off having all of that extra headroom in case you get to a situation where you are playing with a loud drummer and you have no PA support.
10.
Never played a Warwick I liked, Never played a Spector I did't like.
Having owned multiples of both manufacturers, I feel the exact opposite... we can't both be right! Oh I forgot of course we can as it is only 'opinion'!
11. Just out of interest, where did the figure of '101' of these basses originate?
12.
I loved my Zon. I eventually sold it on here but it is the only bass I've owned that I regret selling. If I ever need another bass beyond the one being built for me, or a 4 string I will buy another.
I also owned 'that' bass (was it before/after you Rich?) and I'd buy it back tomorrow!
13.
f
You'll defo need to try harder than that mate!
14. My Thunderfunk is flat 95% of the time BUT I do use the 'timbre' and 'enhance' dials which are to all intents are EQ controls but they again tweaked left/right by small increments depending on the room. However, I do tend to play with my instrument 'active' bass/treble controls boosted (effectively a mid-cut I suppose).
15.
There's a few more in the other room by the spiral staircase...
That's better!
16. Can't find the original link for this bass but it was on ebay a while back and didn't make £500, it then relisted here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/German-Made-Warwick-Streamer-LX-4-Bass-Guitar-With-Hiscox-Case-Mint-Condition-/171266375978?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27e045812a and went for £620 (a decent price for a BO LX). Despite having no reservewhen it previously sold, it is now relisted for £1000 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191114481781?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2661&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Getting greedy?
17. Well there was one person thinking it was genuine... they've withdrawn their bid.
18. Far better to err on the side of caution and be very wary of anyone claiming to not be an expert (in fact as soon as I read those words my default mode is that they are trying to pull a fast one... that and it was found in a loft/belongs to a friend etc.) than to get stiffed and try and complain after.
19. The classic 'I don't know what it is' marketing ploy! P L EASE... if you have a chuffin expensive musical instrument in the back of your cupboard that you have owned for a couple of years then of course you know what it is! IMHO he's hoping that some gullible inexperienced player/investor will think this is a genuine 62 and that they are stealing it from under the nose of a witless novice.
20. The Zons that I owned were far more 'organic' sounding than any other graphite neck bass I've ever played... not to say you still wouldn't like them though.
21. I've owned 3 Sonus (USA) and I'd happily buy any of them back tomorrow!
22. I have a KORG Pandora in my case (bought 'used' for peanuts, for this exact scenario) to use as a back-up preamp in the event of amp failure but tbh I'm surprised the DI box didn't do the job.
23. For some years I've used some of the styofoam that came as packing for a PC as an insulator (same four bits have been in my bag for ages) but it's primary function was to lift the amp clear of a handle mounted on the face that was on the top of the cab... I'm sure that is all you'd need.
