I have exactly the same pair of basses and I have nickel flats on both, nice punchy tone BUT the Godin can have a bit of low end 'bloom' on sustained low notes.
Just bought a TC RS210 cab (poss a 2nd incoming) and I have to say it has blown me away... quite literally! A pair stacked vertically will win the laws of physics competition but more importantly the drivers are at the same height as an old fashioned stack. You know where I am if you want to give a blast and in the process save your back and knuckles.
Can you zap me info/pics of the in-ear headphones you pop into your ER molds?

That particular bass had a very tight, punchy tone much of it down to the density of the body timbers and though it's hard to quantify (no recorded evidence), the bass did sound a nadge brighter/tighter after the high polish finish, though I'd imagine only me and Dave Wilson (who refinished it and had this bass on loan for a few years) would have been able to tell.
An old pic of mine.

Showing the neck reveal. The bass was originally natural wax and refinished 15 years (or poss more) ago. The neck is fully sealed/lacquered but not solid black like the rest of the bass. You'd not know it wasn't a factory finish (really that good) other than factory finished basses don't have that neck reveal, they are solid black as it is an easier/cheaper job.

I hate it when I can't figure something out...

Don't look for anything personal to me, just look at the rear of the bass in general.
The first Stage II that I ever owned, now for sale at Bass Direct. How can I be sure... take a look at the rear of the bass.

Played it for many years (and will likely have to again; if people want to hear it who am I to say otherwise) and I don't play a line or notes, I used to add percussive whomps to the bass drum kick by palming the strings with my right hand... if I felt like it I might add other percussive parts to compliment the drums. Drummer and I used to then play off each other, good fun.
I've always done amp - cab A / amp - cab b (using two outputs on the amp if it has it); reason being that if one of the speaker leads goes faulty I still have one cab running. Whereas if connected amp - cab A - cab B and the lead to cab A dies you have zero output to either cab.
