1.
...how his cabs with the passive speakers are individually tuneable - in simple terms you tighten them for a cleaner crisper response and slacken them for a softer rounder low end. Very clever stuff. ...for an upgrade to a circuit improvement which helped increase the power handling capacity
Now you see this is the reason why I am going to give up on reading anything further re. the merits of certain cabs and drivers and why things can't and won't work or who designs/makes the best and the inherent back-stabbing of the merits of each cab! So you can slacken off a speaker to change/alter the tone/response... well can't you do that with any speaker and does that not totally nullify any 'tuning' of the driver to cab; you may as well chuck any random driver in. A component can alter the power handling capacity of the cab - I assume that is some form of filter because surely the spec of the driver itself is the limiting factor in power handling? I've decided to design and build my own cabs! You thought that Guy Pratt's 'sliding pup' Warwick bass was worthy of conversation; wait till you see my 'sliding wall' bass cab, my slogan will be something catchy like, "Tuneable to anything you chuffin want, just slide the top in and out... the sound in your head is the sound in your hands!" ...do you think it might catch on?
2. Why would I not be surprised to hear that I may have owned it previously! If you could zap me a few pics that'd be good and I'll give some thought to a balance figure.
3.
Bump for a beautiful and interesting bass. I've been thinking about super jazzes for a while. If I had the cash to balance, I'd maybe be inclined to offer a trade on my '87 SS1
I'm wanting to sell but don't mind waiting for a genuine buyer/trade. I could take the Streamer (condition not withstanding) and wait for the cash.
4.
...a slight crack in the side of the body and some markings on the inside of the neck.
Any chance of a pic of the slight crack... 'crack' (slight or otherwise) conjures up all sorts of images and seeing it really helps.
5. Phew what's the chances of two being for sale! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ritter-Jupiter-Eye-Of-Horus-Jupiter-Bass-Phil-Lesh-/190855163985?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2c6fdab051
6.
This. Why you'd take a lovely streamer and cover it green paint is beyond me.
... because it was scratched to hell and had a cracked headstock/neck. The neck issue was repaired so that doesn't account for the shipping option!
7.
Logistically it was excellent. It was as easy to lift straight in and out of the car and a lot easier than the AE212 I once owned.
Is there a lot of difference between the CN and AE then?
8. Looked at that earlier and it is a plain oddity. The earliest Thumbs actually had a shorter horn than present but JD era Thumb basses like this should NOT have a top horn that is the shape of a Streamer! I actually assumed that it must be the camera angle but it looks wrong on several of the pics. I can't imagine that it is a faker (too many things right with the rest of the bass) but nor have I ever heard of Warwick modifying the top horn of a Thumb to the shape of a Streamer... a conundrum, wrapped in an enigma and topped with a puzzle!
9.
well i did wonder with the 2x10 if id need a 15" later down the road for depth ;-) lol many thanks for every bodies input thank you
If you get a 2x10 why not get another 2x10 in the future!
10. If you get a 4 ohm cab you can't use a second cab with either amp. A pair of 8 ohm cabs would suit most people far better; you could still use a single 8 ohm cab with either head and get a respectable output from the amp(s). Do not worry about your single 8 ohm cab being rated @ 300w and the amp 500w... it won't make a heap of beans difference (just use common sense and your ears).
11. Cheers Dougal, there has been talks over this but nothing concrete. However, I am selling my house and moving into rented for a short time so I'm going to push to sell this sooner rather than later.
12. 10% + listing fee (variable depending on start price/reserve/etc.) + paypal fees... I'd certainly budget for losing 20% of what you sell it for and then you won'r be disappointed.
13.
...and very good price
Which price?
14.
Nope. To my ears, 1 AE112 sounds great but 2 AE112 cabs sound 5 times better.
Ditto the Aguilar DB112. One cab is OK but two is greater than the sum of the pair!
15. Loved my pair of Aguilar DB112 cabs and still rate the sound (to my ears) slightly more than the Berg AE212 cab which replaced them (the AE212 is the weight of one of the Aggies and a great one cab fix).
16. Aside from the 'is it' question, why a bargain? It has a starting price of £80, the finish price could be anywhere you'd care to name; there are thousands of instruments listed on ebay with low starting bids but they only remain bargains if nobody bids on them!
17. You've got a higher output from the first combo than you'd have from the bass, nothing to do with ohmage, it is just gain stacking. Take the effects send of combo #1 (which your bass is plugged into) and plug that into the effects return of #2 that should do it. The tuner, DI and headphones are outputs (as is the effects send) and the effects return and front input are 'inputs' so you could try combinations of out/in from #1 - #2 but don't use the Ext Cab option. Does that make sense?
18.
here is a link that will explain the ramp benefit's etc! http://www.garywilli...al/theramp.html
Yep, I'm aware of what the ramp does but it is essentially a 4 string thumb/finger rest which when I have tried I have found myself frustrated with the restriction of full movement across the strings... it is a great thumb rest for the E string but never worked for me (tried it on two basses which came to me with one attached and I removed them, as well as FH's Spector which I tried). each to his own though!
19. 'Funkyhobbit' off BC had a ramp fitted to his Spector which has a similar convex top and it wasn't cheap to get it shaped to match (saying that it was a PJ set-up so more difficult). I'd go for maple to match the body (assuming it is between pups that you are going to place it) or wenge to match the fingerboard; wenge will be much pricier than maple though! Just out of interest what 'tonal' benefits do you imagine a ramp will impart. I assume you mean from you being able to alter your left hand playing technique.
20. If it is a BBOT bridge being swapped for a higher mass bridge (Badass etc) then you may hear some differences due to the added mass but it isn't always the case that it will be a significant improvement. Saying that if you can buy a 'used' bridge to try then you are not going to lose any money if you decide it adds nothing and then sell it on. .
21. I've owned basses that have had the facility to be strung through both positions (bridge rear/thru-body) and I have to say that there was no discernible difference to my ear; whether in isolation or with a full band cranked. In fact I had grief with one bass when thru-body stringing and the windings came to the saddle point and if using flats the string would 'fracture' (for want of a better word), due to the break angle coming over the saddles from the rear (fnarr). However, it works for some so go with what you feel is best... your ears may be in better shape than mine.
22. TBH it is dependent upon any issues with the amp but IMHO the 2x10 cab is worth £50-£80 and the amp maybe the same but if it needs servicing maybe lower so £30-£80
