1.
IIRC this Fishman piezo bridge is the same as the one Bolin used in their NS basses.
If that is the case, it's worth buying for the piezo tone alone! I'm so shallow but had this been any other colour I'd likely have bought it!
  2. Not a lot of money for a great cab!
  3.
Another 'Ashdown cabs sound wooly' claim.... Too many people on here jumping on the bandwagon I feel.
Not in my case; it isn't a 'claim', it is a recount of the sound that I heard when I played through all but the ABM 2x10 combo. One man's wooly is another man's deep/mellow/etc. and I personally didn't like the tone (inc' last week when I used the rehearsal rooms 8x10 instead of my Berg 2x12... but that is just MHO! After saying that you'll still note that I suggested that the OP go for the ABM over the MAG, I didn't try to persuade him to try brand XYZ, if he likes Ashdown then go for it. Oh and on the subject of users; give me free Ashdown gear and I'll use/advertise it all day long. Oh hang on, that last bit was a lie! Vive la difference.
  4. It wasn't chalk and cheese tonal differences between ABM and MAG... they were both wooly! I felt that the ABMs tended to hold together more whereas the MAG sounded like it was running out of headroom and wasn't far off it's limit. Just talking about the 2 4x10s as it isn't fair to compare the 8x10, though to be fair the 2x10 was an early ABM combo it was probably the best matched of them all. From which you could deduce that you need to consider which amp you are using when comparing the cabs (hasten to add I did use the same amp with the ABM/MAG 4x10).
  5. It is a subjective thing but 'theoretically' the ABM is a better cab than the MAG cab but you would need to take into account the actual cost differential. IMHO (having tried an ABM 2X10/4X10/8X10 and a MAG 4X10) if I could afford it I'd go for the ABM.
  6. Sorry, when you didn't get back to me last year I decided to keep them both; I should have marked this as withdrawn.
  7. All PMs replied to. Yes I will ship International, payment by bank transfer (no paypal) and trades will be considered but it needs to be a value that I can easily and readily get on Basschat.
  8. A bit of interest of late Internationally... just to clarify; yes I will ship abroad (at cost), payment would need to be other than Paypal and the condition is pretty much as it was when new. Trades will be considered but it needs to be a value that I can easily and readily get on Basschat.
  9. I have two for sale!
  10.
1799 I think a while back
...and back up to that price! If he couldn't get £1500 I can't see him shifting it by putting the price up.
  11. Blimey that's cheap... I am after more than that for my 60w 1x12 version!
  12.
One of the best Warwicks I've ever seen. Save the animal bump
I'm actually in the process of putting my MM Sterling fretless up for sale (which I was going to keep as a cheaper alternative to this) and if that goes first I'll likely end up keeping this... I only need one fretless!
  13.
I'm glad someone else thinks so, but I wasn't going to be the first to say it!

  14. My basses have been suspended by neck hangers mounted on the wall for the last 20+ years and never had a problem!
  15. The sound matches the looks!
  16.
This guy seems very well regarded. Haven't used him myself though... http://www.dwilsonguitars.com/
I've known and used Dave many times (as have lots in NE/NW), he isn't the cheapest but he is very good!
  17. Certainly wouldn't think that it isn't a genuine cheapy Yamaha (were these about £110 new?) and I've given away better basses to charity... £20-£30 I reckon!
  18. I had to read the description before I realised what the body of the bass represented... and I bought the album when first released!
  19.
Well that's well and truly told me off. I will sit in the corner facing the wall for one hour now. BC must be a very serious place for some people.

Which thread are you reading? I've read several positive comments and no commands or diktats. The overwhelming suggestion has been to try one.

You're well within your rights to make a prophesy of doom and gloom, but please don't berate the people who have contributed in a measured and constructive manner in the thread up to this point - I don't think that's fair.
Agreed! Added to which the OP started this thread asking for advice and some of which will be from haters/lovers of acoustic basses... in fact he will likely ONLY get advice from those two groups of people, so I'd expect on average for 50% of it to be negative!
  20.
Dolphins are between the 'frets' I believe, so no Dolphins would be harmed
Correct. Depending on who does it, a fret job can be done professionally for £120
  21.
Waaaaaaaaay too nice..........unfortunate for me It aint Fretted
...and fretting it would cost?
  22.
Nope, not that one. Its a 97 ss2 (3band eq, still has the old style neck though)........ Lovely piece of kit it is
23.
My band have talked about doing a couple of "unplugged" or acoustic gigs. The guitarists have acoustics and obvioulsy the drums are acoustic. I though it would be cool if I was acoustic too...
You could be 'electro' acoustic but don't ever imagine that you would be loud enough to keep up with a pair of unamplified acoustics... never mind a drummer (even using brushes/hot-rods)! I play in a 4 piece acoustic group (no drums) using a Washburn AB20 and it has a nice acoustic tone that sits in with the acoustic guitars (we all plug into a very small PA) but there'd not be a cat's chance in Hell of competing if I wasn't amplified; even house rehearsals I need to plug into a practice combo when they are purely acoustic!
  24.
Think you should trade this for my ss2 4 string...
It's a LONG shot but if this were my old 80's SSII (which was light for a SSII) I'd have gotten involved in a trade with Kev!
  25. Tried photographing the side but the camera is useless in the present light but I can confirm the dots are where the frets 'should' be NOT between the frets as they would be on a fretted bass. They are white dots on the edge of the ebony board. If you still want pics, send me a PM and I'll see if I can get it sorted.
