How in the heck has this not sold yet? Bumpage on me
I have someone local who has chewed his fingernails down to the wrist trying to sell his SWR Redhead in order to get the funds to buy my Dingwall but times are tough for high end gear! -

Very slight superficial marks on the body and a few wear marks on the pups. The D string tuner 'washer' (the plastic insert surround, see headstock front pic) is cracked but not broken away and doesn't affect the tuner/bass in any way; again replacements can be had. Negatives: Battery cover here but clip snapped off (will be secured with tape), not uncommon and readily available. Price: £1200 Not much that I can add to the above, if you know your Warwick history, you'll know that these early Thumbs differ from the later models in having a 1 piece bridge (Warwick branded Schaller 3D), sculpted headstock rear, slimmer necks and come with various pup manufacturers (the JDs had EMG). JD refers to John Diggin who worked with Warwick to design the bass and the first production run had the JD logo on the truss rod cover. No problem at all with neck dive on this bass (I've not tried a NT Thumb that did so not sure where the story of neck diving Thumbs came from), it balances perfectly. No crackly pots or iffy electrics. Since these pics were taken I've given the frets a good polish and set the bass up (no probs with the truss rod) with a nice low action. The bass comes with an 'as new' Warwick hardcase (I think there is one up for sale at the moment on BC for £100+) but I can supply a period correct gigbag if you'd prefer. I'd be interested in a trade for a Streamer bass (don't think anything else would float my boat at the minute but you could try me) but it would need to be sub 9lb in weight and to make a straight swap it would need to be a vintage Streamer so certainly no later than this bass; though I would accept cash added to the deal if condition wasn't as good or if it was a slightly later bass (for an absolute corker of a bass then I'd add a bit of cash). Price includes delivery to a UK mainland address.

How much to charge for shipping a P bass and moulded case
For this service does the recipient have to sign? I don't want somebody claiming they havent received the bass and doing a Paypal scam
I can only speak for the Interparcel/UPS service that I have used but yes. -
If it is a valuable bass you need to check on the smallprint of the courier to make sure the general insurance they quote is applicable to musical instruments. Some companies make instruments exempt or only insure up to a nominal amount of £200 or so.
ParcelForce are infamous for accepting your increased insurance premium for an instrument but exempting them in their T&C. Interparcel generally only covers up to £50 on the basic price and you need to bump that up to £1000 at an extra premium of about £10 (you can go up in increments below that costing proportionately less)... other couriers are available. -
I know the OP is looking for DJ info but I hope he doesn't mind the minor detour/sidetrack... Fender Roadworn Jazzes are generally pretty light; or at least as 'general' as you can be with any model of bass. I have a Dingwall Jazz which is also quite light but it isn't your trad Jazz bass instrument.
yeh i thought so ... maybe I am not that dumb/crazy!
The shop will have been lazy and done a Google search for details and identified that (fretted) fingerboards are maple or rosewood... not many fretlesses so they likely won't realise that they would be ebony.

I've also used Interparcel and personally go for UPS when you get the various options. I tend to find that the boxes that you get from cycle shops are great to just fit a hardcase into and you have room to put extra cardboard/bubblewrap etc. Musicman Sterling with original 'shortie' case with smaller cycle box = 125x40x15 10kg Fender P with SKB case and large cycle box = 145x50x30 13kg Err on the side of caution when measuring/weighing your package, a cm/kg or two over will generally make no difference (the weight and overall length MIGHT in some circumstances) to the cost you pay BUT if you under-measure/estimate they can sting you for extra charges. -

Gareth bought a set of pups off me and the sale was as smooth as you could ask for. Enjoy.

You know they are light-weight... are you sure? I've owned two which were bought on the reassurance they were 'the lightest bass I've ever had' (I can only assume that their other bass had lead weights in) and both weren't a kick in the backside off 10lb. Now if 10lb is your reference point for weight then fine but I'd ask for accurate weights if buying off the internet. To add to that I personally have probably asked another dozen or so DJ owners for the weight of their basses and iirc only one came in at 9lb (none lighter). I even went on TB some years back and asked on the DJ owners thread about the weights of their basses and though there was talk of some examples being light not one owner stepped forward with a verifiable light-weight. I realise that now that I have posted this, every Lakkie DJ owner with an elusive light-weight example will come out of the woodwork and prove me wrong! Sorry, I should add that I'm not trying to urinate on your fire, more a case of offering my research/insight into getting a light-weight Jazz type bass which included the Lakkie DJ.

Rickenbacker 4003 Jetglo Bass 2004 manf' inc Ric case
After all that might have been easier to sell the basses you traded lol. Good luck anyway mate.
You'd think but I'd had no luck over the last few months. It was one of those moments where when it was put to me, seemed like a good idea at the time as Rics tend to have a very loyal fan base. -
I'm not even sure if these are on the market yet but wondered if there was anyone out there with knowledge on these Aguilar pick-ups (I didn't even realise till today that they made pups)?
Good luck selling it - after all that polava I hope you get a good deal!
Cheers. I think my transparency and honesty (and my long-standing on BC) is showing because I do have two interested parties but after the last 'polava' I'm sorry for them but I will be looking for a good deposit VERIFIED in my bank before I proceed, regardless of their standing on BC. -
Rickenbacker 4003 Jetglo Bass 2004 manf' inc Ric case
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in Basses For Sale
In the interests of full clarity, below is a verbatim message to the previous interested party describing my appraisal of the Ric (please note asterisk to save face for the person and that of their luthier); 'Hi ****. OK I'll be as brutal/frank as I can and then summarise. I've just gone over the bass with a fine tooth comb and I'd already tweaked the truss rods to ensure they are OK; the bass arrived this morning with a high action but turns out that the truss rods weren't even tensioned up as the guy likes a nice high action "for the tone". I tweaked the bass while he was here and he has left it with me so that I can answer any questions that a buyer might have (he took away one of the two basses that I am trading and it scared me how high I had to set the action for him). On tweaking the truss rods (both tensioned up equally, just a bit to get the neck with a bit of relief but if it were my bass I'd likely get it flatter/lower but I'll leave that to you/**) and getting the action back to my kind of levels I also noted that I had to take the bridge adjusters right down but it isn't a problem as the dampers still adjust down further so the strings ring clear (needs new strings IMHO as these seem to be very cheap). There is a single 1mm ding in the rear that goes through the paint but it is very small and not really visible from a couple of feet away. A small scuff on the front of the headstock (check the pics I sent) defo not through the paint or really even visible unless tilting in the light. 2 pin head sized dinks on the very tip of the headstock but I'd be amazed if you didn't add to them the first time you were in the vicinity of a drummer's cymbals. What I thought was a 2mm ding on the very back edge of the lower bout of the body actually turned out to be wear from where the lead must have been passed through his strap (does that make sense), it is very slight but smooth and not an impact ding. I have to confess I thought the paint on Rics would be mega thick but the paint is almost nitro-cellulose thin and looks like it will age/relic quite quickly (tilted in the light, the entire bass seems to have visible wood patternation)... saying that, I suppose it has done very well for the last 5-6 years so it must be durable. As has been mentioned the binding needs looking at but the guy up here assures me it is an easy fix and the kind of work that all luthiers do on a regular basis. I would say that 75% of the binding is fine but the other 25% needs re-fixing. The neck binding is spot on and no issues there. The frets have loads of meat on them and though they may need a bit of a polish/clean up due to a little discolouration, they are fine. The fingerboard lacquer is undamaged and crack free. Tuners all work with no bent shafts or stiff operation. So in summary the binding needs sorting but otherwise it is a tidy bass. Serial number - 40824 I really appreciate your offer to still pay full price for the bass even though it needs money spending on it but my original price was based on the fact that it would be a 'used' bass with no issues (other than general wear and tear which I think the bass has) and to me that didn't mean that binding was coming away; as such I'll knock £50 off the price and if it costs you slightly more to have a quality luthier like * ****** sort it out, then that can be partially covered by the £50 reduction. If nothing else you can pay him the £50 to set the bass up to your satisfaction. Crikey that was all a bit long-winded! LOL Let me know what you think.' -
was it yourself that re painted the bass by hand mate?? how does this bass play/sound ??? cheers
The bass plays... like a Ric! I personally don't like them inc' the way they play and feel but Ric owners would absolutely detest my Warwicks. However, that was the whole point of me NOT taking the bass in a trade unless someone had agreed to buy it. I can assure you the bass has only ever had one owner and that is the factory finish. -
