Annoying high pitched noise from pedal board: PSU problem?
warwickhunt replied to TRBboy's topic in Effects
Obvious question but was this into/thru an amp? I had similar problems with effects in an effects loop of an amp but when I went Bass-effects-amp input I had no probs... I may be up the wrong tree but just throwing it out there! -
Dingwall Super Jazz Bass Sunburst/Tortie/Passive SOLD
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in Basses For Sale
I could be wrong but I 'think' that the 5 string is the only Super-J that has graphite rods, which are installed due to the longer scale and to stiffen the neck. However, if you're interested and it's a deciding factor I can contact Dingwall (Sheldon is registered on here so he may even be able to answer in person). -

TC 250 Head(how do I daisy chain this to 2 cabs?)
warwickhunt replied to Pestie's topic in General Discussion
2nd socket from the 1x15 cab to your other 2x10 cab, has the same affect as two outs from the amp (both cabs are 8 ohms, yes?). -
It's certainly an improvement - and I thank you for that - but though the bridge pup and bridge are aligned and the neck pup and fretboard angle are aligned, they are still out of alignment with each other! I can see I'll have to have words with Sheldon and get a custom number sorted!!
Just live with your OCD and buy my bass rather than order one from Sheldon!
Also if you play with your thumb anchored on the pickup cover the slanting edge is bloody uncomfortable.
Not on all basses! I've found that the actual shaping of the cover is far move vital; I HATE pup covers that have a razor sharp edge. Fender/MEC/Seymour Duncan/EMG are all guilty, yet Bartolini (and Bartolini/Dingwall) are lovely to rest on. I actually find the fact that the Dingwall pups angle away and are well rounded on the edge, means that my thumb rests beautifully. I've got a set of Wizard pups in my Fender Roadworn and again they are really nice to rest upon.
It bothers my OCD to have one pickup on the slant and one not! And although I love Dingwalls from a playing perspective, in bothers me that the pickups are slanted at a different angle to the bridge and the end of the fretboard... ...and yes, I fully realise there are many more important things to worry about. Do I need therapy? Probably.
No need for therapy, I can help with your Dingwall proble... My Dingwall has the neck end/pups/bridge appropriately angled!
'Sweet spot' is still about abother 1.5cm closer to the neck on a 60's spaced jazz bridge pickup though, and it it's still down to each instruments scale length too.
I was loosely referring to the fact that Fender Jazz bass pup placement varies with era (all 4 string Fender Jazz basses are the same scale length) and you defo get a different tone from the pup placement so the slanting of pups can't be purely cosmetic.
-
+1 Although I imagine there is a small shifting of the bass/treble balance slightly I think its primarily cosmetic.
People talk often enough of the 'sweet spot' for pup location and certain folk will swear blind that the 70's placement of the rear Jazz pup is better than the 60's so there 'should' be tonal difference with the way that a pup is angled!
-
Its funny but I`ve always looked at slanted pickups and thought "I want more bass on the thinner strings, not less".
Dingwall pups slant back the correct way (i.e. 'theoretically' more bass on the treble strings and tighter on the bass) and as has been said the traditional P bass pup positioning doesn't make sense... though it still sounds as you'd expect (Warwick got it the right way around on the SSI and reversed the P ).
Not mentioned above is the fact that they feel very light and certainly don't feel like you're playing a 35" scale bass. Good luck with the sale, somebody snap one of these up!
Ooops many thanks for the reminder; I should have mentioned the weight... light! In fact the 4 stringers are 34" but they actually player like a medium scale bass due to the way that the upper-horn/swivel takes the strap point out to near the 12th fret. Also worth mentioning is the fact that they aren't slab/flat fronted, they are actually arch-topped so that the centre section is slightly thicker than the outer edges. The flame is actually a top as the back is alder which contributes to the tone. <edit> If there are interested locals, I can take these to the next local Bass Bash or to my gigs in the NE (The Guide Post in Springwell tonight! )

I 'think' (and I'd love someone to chip in otherwise)this is the only pair of 4 strings in the UK. I've owned the 5 that has sold on here a couple of times and I know of two other 5's but not seen or heard of another 4 string in the UK. Between these, the Dingwall and the 'Flowerpower' P bass I've got to make a sale soon!
It's the SS1 with the crack in the neck, bought off here last week
Thought that I recognised the flame of the body wood. How is that scratch?

The pair are up for sale but I'll only be selling one of them, as soon as one is sold I'll keep the one that is left... and I don't mind which one, even though I LOVE the piezo tone of the green one! The Orange one was bought 2 years after the Green (both imported from original distributors Melobar Guitars in the USA) as a back up but it has NEVER been gigged or left the house (hence the sale of one of them). I am the first and original owner of both of these basses. Not the recent NS line of headless basses, these are as a result of a collaboration between Ned and John Bolin (builds guitars for ZZ Top, Stones etc.). They have the same open headstock design as Ned's EUB and the design is very neat and tidy. Bassist magazine voted this design of bass as the best fingerstyle bass that they had ever reviewed; that is subjective but I have to say they are gorgeous to play and hear, one consideration is that while they are fabulous sounding basses I have never found the slap tone brilliant (I've never needed to tweak them to try and get a good slap tone but I'd have thought that you can)... but then I never slap so that's OK!. They feature a very neat 'swivel' top strap attachment which means that they hang beautifully and the centre of balance is brought back towards the player, whereas a Single-Cut bass might be a bit pushed away. Both basses have identical construction with any differences noted below; bolt on neck, with two of the bolts mounted @ 45 degrees to increase neck stability (and they are rock-solid). Maple necks with ebony fingerboards . EMG active pups with 18v system Vol/Pan/Bass/Treble/Sweepable-Mid. They both have a full round profile neck which is between Jazz and Precision width (for those who like to have a reference, though I've tried Jazzes that are as full and chunky as some P basses). Neck is coloured the same as the body and headstock and lacquer finished. Neck is finished solid black like the headstock Piezo equipped - with independant volume and centre detented tone control. Both basses come with the original Bolin cases that are moulded internally to fit the bass snug. The Orange bass is literally as new and though the Green bass has been gigged it is in excellent nick with some finger swirls above the rear pup and the odd 'tiny' ding or mark (being honest and it'd be hard to photograph any marks). Green - £1400 Amber - £1300 Delivery would be at cost and I've no problem boxing them up BUT I'd rather do a face to face deal as they are pretty rare and I'd hate them to be damaged.

'66 Jazz bass... Please Please Please bid on this!
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Yes I've spotted many similar listings and reported them but I've not tracked to see if they are from different sellers, is it the same account or different ones? I figured I'd have some fun and bid on this, possibly even winning it! -

warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
If he had a genuine 66 Jazz available @ £1200 he'd be a chuffin mug selling at that. However, he is either selling a dodgy one or really wants significantly more but wants to tell a buyer in person; either way there is a rabbit away somewhere and he can't force buyers to contact him before bidding. -

Don't bid too much as it'll be nice if it were to go up in small amounts with many people! -
Over the last 30+ years of playing bass live in bands, I've gotten as much (possibly more) enjoyment out of some of the simplest bass-lines as I have from some of the more technical and flash stuff. As has been said already, it's about the song/the whole experience and if I need to play one note 120 times in succession I'd be happy knowing it was what was required... in fact I'm already imagining varying the tone of that single note by altering my finger/pick attack, subtly altering the dynamic as dictated by the other instruments, possibly even playing few individual notes and letting them sustain to add space or tension as I start to put the notes back in. Oooh I'm off to play some U2!
-
...but please, please, please DON'T contact the seller first! I'm sure this guy is running scams but either way it really p*sses me off when sellers demand that you contact them first (because they want to do a deal off ebay... IF they have the item) before placing a bid; Sorry but that isn't how ebay works, I don't have to do any such thing!

Spooky cos I just clicked on it and it worked fine. There is only one picture, it hasn't stopped snowing since I put it up for sale/trade. Going to wotk in Sweden tomorrow for 2 days, so no replies to pm's tomorrow/Wed until evening. Cheers, Karl.
