1. Some folks go one step further than just a drink or two... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGAI3pxByqM
 2. Yep MEC preamps are mega expensive new but they are generally dirt cheap if you find one used on ebay. However, I've fitted Aguilar OBP1 and Glock pres to match with MEC pups and they work great; there are loads of other pres that would do just as good a job.
 3. The couple of times that this has been for sale on BC I've always had a hankering for it... even though I had sworn not to have another Fender(esque) bass! Unfortunately I have a Dingwall Super Jazz to sell first!
 4. If this had been your old SSII 4 string, I'd have been knocking on your door. Top fella to deal with so have no fears in that dept.
 5. I think that I've gotten around and answered all of the various offers; many of them interesting but none that have swayed me as yet.
 6.
Have you tried the Orange Terror Bass then? Thumps like a mofo.
JPJ on BC is local to me & has one, which sounded nice enough at low volume but I haven't personally tried that one... saying that he got rid of his in favour of lugging his big ol SWR about!
 7. I have to confess that I am not a fan of digital amps (a sweeping generalisation but I've owned or at least tried in a real-life situation many of the main players), I find that they lack what I would defined as 'thump/punch' in the low end. I wouldn't say they were spongy in those frequencies but certainly they didn't carry the low end as non-digital amps can do (I am talking about decent quality brands). IIRC Dave Funk of Thunderfunk said that some amps throw doughnuts but his amps throw cannonballs.... not the greatest but it is visual enough for me! Hence I am intrigued to try one of these but I have a feeling that the poor representation of the Warwick brand in the UK is going to make that difficult unless you live close to the one or two retailers which will undoubtedly be down South. Saying that I'd need some kind of returns policy as many digital amps can sound fine in isolation, then you put it in a live band scenario and you identify the shortcomings! ...unless someone has taken the plunge in the NE? .
 8. Not trying to be ar5ey but even the 100w difference between the lowest and highest ratings won't make a ha'peth of difference in the real world. The ratings on the cabs (regardless of make) will be just as vague/incorrect as the amps ratings and whether you are putting in 550w rather than 450w won't 'really' matter.
 9.
I've watched BIN's before, because i think the seller has started high, will realise after 3 days he's pitched it high, only to lower the BIN considerably, if you 'aint watchin', but you're interested, then it could go elsewhere. This happens more often than you think, less so, since the 'best offer' option appeared, but its a regular thing. I also watch things that I'm curious about what the current market price is, keeps you up to date.
^ This.
 10. Unfortunately I work till after 5.00 on Monday/Tuesday and Hartlepool is about an hour drive away. Are you any further North later in the day/early evening?
 11. Quick update: I've been offered £60 for the Badass and £50 for the Wizard 'Hammers'. Now the Badass isn't fitted to the bass so that is an easy sale but if someone wants to buy the Jazz as is and do the deal for the parts they are potentially going to get the Jazz for £590! At this point this has to be one of the cheapest RW Jazzes being sold on here.
 12. Yes it is an odd one that WarwickMEC don't officially list a 3x9v compartment/cover. I'm wondering if that meant that it was out sourced to a 3rd party or (most likely) Warwick didn't originally fit the compartment, as it could have been a retrospective LED fit? I know that Warwick do a factory LED but IIRC the extra battery has been in the control route and x2 batteries were in a double compartment. It'd be interesting to establish if there are any images of 'factory' basses that have LEDs or that have a triple compartment.
 13.
Must resist..
14. Just think of the colour options that the blue one will open up for gig wear... and it'll match your eyes!
 15.
I'd say no. There is a bit of readjustment required but I was comfortable with my Afterburner within 10 minutes, it's very intuitive really. Having played a Dingwall for some time I am a fan fret convert, it feels more comfortable, much more even feel & response across the strings & the whole thing just feels more "in tune". When I switch to a regular fretted bass now it sounds like the B,E & A are a different instrument to the D & G. If I had the money I would be all over this one.
Thanks for the second opinion re. chords and you are right about the uniformity in tension and tone across the strings! Just to add that the E string is just over 34" and the G string slightly over 32" so there is no worries over longer stretches as you might think that you'd have on say a 36" scale.
 16.
It's kind-of like loads of bass players getting together in the pub. Only not in the pub. And with gear rather than beer. You can bring stuff to show off if you want, or just come along and chew the fat. That's it, really!
Did you have a clip from the one at Seaton Deleval?
 17.
Great bass, good luck with the sale. But i thought the 'Thumper' was a p-bass pup?
DOH! I'm a spanner. you are absolutely correct, they are in fact 'Hammer' pups (Wizard).
 18. Thanks for the offer Jeeks but based on past/recent sales on BC it has to be worth more than that I think. Of course you could buy it @ £700 and sell the extras; I know for a fact that there are at least two people actively looking for a Badass which has to be worth £40-£60 and then the pups are worth £30-£40 (possibly more) I'd have thought!
 19.
OK, not sure I want to buy without trying 1st. Cheers Pete
Fully understand Pete.
 20.
Not traveling South today or tomorrow by any chance?
Ooof not as far as Kettering... I might have managed Sunderland or Durham! Couriers aren't that expensive.
 21.
out of interest what is the difference between a good sounding streamer and a not so good? I was shocked how different bluey and my current one sound.
Interesting... I would think that the main difference between your present SSI and Bluey is the density of the woods; a sub 8lb bass IMHO will sound different to a 9-10lb instrument. On basses of similar weights there is little discernible differences (that I can hear) other than between Streamers that have differing pup configs or body/neck woods. In a blind test I've not been able to tell the difference between MEC / EMG equipped Streamers from different years (assuming they don't differ significantly in woods/construction/weight); though the difference between say a SSI with the early predominantly wenge neck and the later maple neck is very noticeable (obviously the Ltd Ed/SSI/SSII basses do sound vastly different). In conclusion; wood density/weight. My red SSI is over 9lb but it sounds significantly tighter/fuller/more piano like, than any other 'light-weight' SSI that I have had. However, I am prepared to sacrifice a bit of tone to save weight.
 22.
Just a quick question, do the fanned frets make it more difficult to play chords?
I don't play a lot of chords but the 11ths that I sometimes use are actually easier; when you think it through, chords further up the neck don't have as far a reach across the strings.
Dude why can't this have an extra string! Best of luck bro, great basses
Stick one of those new Hipshot 2 step D-tuners on it and you are only missing 1 semi-tone!
 23. Canadian made Dingwall, with lots of info available on-line or visit the Bass Direct site for quite a bit of info. It is very light, well balanced and resonant. Not sure if the fingerboard is morado or a nice piece of close grained rosewood. This is the 'passive' version and I have to say that although I generally play active basses and expected this to maybe not quite have some of the sparkle that an active bass can have it REALLY surprised me; it actually sounds as bright and tight as any active bass yet it does the whole passive vibe great. The fanned frets... they are nowhere near as awkward or difficult to play as you imagine, in fact they aren't really any different at all. The litmus test is that Water-of-Tyne (died in the wool Fender head) tried this bass last week and he commented how easy it was to play (I won't use the word 'adapt' as you don't need to change your playing style). The only subtle changes you need to make are when you go up the dusty end but even then, the natural rotation of your wrist/hand means that the fanned frets actually help. The bass is in excellent nick with no dings, dinks or worming and comes complete with the SKB/Dingwall hard case. I don't 'think' that there's any trades I'd be interested in other than a vintage/Limited Warwick but you never know you can try me but ensure your trade has been accurately weighed and comes in under 9lb! [s]£1575[/s] [s]£1500[/s] £1400
 24. I recently got this in a trade and fantastic as it is, I can't justify having this and my Dingwall Super Jazz; as such I am putting BOTH up for sale and which ever sells first I'll keep the other! The basics of the the 'Roadworn' series are easy enough to find online but essentially it is intended to be a homage to the early 60's Jazz bass and I have to say it does a cracking job. It is light, well balanced, resonant, the fingerboard is a nice piece of close grained rosewood, headstock colour/tuners (reverse turn)/bridge etc. all look the part (Mr J Public couldn't tell this from a pukka 'vintage' bass... but then he'd not know that it was a bass as opposed to a guitar). This particular bass comes with Wizard [s]Thumper[/s] Hammer pups fitted; I have no idea if they are better/different/worse than the stock pups, as they came fitted to the bass but to my ears they sound superb (original pups are supplied if you want to return to stock or to sell on). It'll also come with a spare black pickguard, in case you want to deviate from the standard Roadworn look and it will include a Badass bridge which many consider to be an appropriate upgrade to the stock bridge... again I've not fitted it but you have the option to swap it out or to sell the Badass (several folks on here currently looking to buy Badass bridges). It'll come supplied with a Fender gigbag. I don't 'think' that there's any trades I'd be interested in but you never know you can try me but ensure your trade has been accurately weighed and comes in under 9lb! £700 inc' spare (original) pups, scratchplate and Badass.
