1.
there is part of me that would love to sell you my superlight one, some kind of bass karma.
...Bluey eventually repays me! Patently I'd offer folding stuff or a Roadworn Jazz!
2. Hopefully this lil hometown bash won't detract from the Moffat affair; I'd have thought that anyone attending Moffat would have booked well before now. However, apologies Alan and those wishing to attend the NE bash who will be at Moffat but I'm sure there'll be ample opportunities in the future. As Michael says, this isn't some mega affair (though it sounds like it will be well attended) with special guests/manufacturers etc, it'll be lighter than that and the chance for Northern bassists to put names to faces (I'll bring along stickers and marker pens).
3. I've known a similar problem and it turned out to be that the battery connector terminals/soldering/wiring were corroded. It was hard to identify as the actual wiring/solder is inside a plastic sleeve/cover but I dissected it and 'Hey Presto'! Easy enough to replace and cost about 36p for a new battery terminal.
4.
So it's 10 pounds?!
No, I said my 'ideal' weight for a bass would be about 8lb. The particular bass I'm referring to is 9lb 6oz and I said that it was a lb or two heavier than I'd like. I actually have a Streamer that is 7lb 14oz but it isn't the same maple/maple construction and thus it is less focused. However, I did have a Ltd Ed Streamer which I sold recently and that was over 10lb... hence my selling it.
5.
WH, tough question for you. Do you have a fave?
In terms of tone there is only one out of all of those basses that has stood the test of time (though I would like to revisit one or two) and it is an all maple (except for the neck stringers) 1990 SSI... probably the least auspicious of all of my basses but in outright terms 'my' personal favourite! However, it is about a lb or two heavier than I would like, if it were 8lb in weight it would be my absolute one and only bass; though if it were that much lighter would it still sound the same?
6. Alas the lady would need to be rubbed down quite roughly to 'deflower' her!
7. WoT has just been around to mine and he happened to have the RB IV with him... Swiss Army Knife of tone is the best way to describe it! If anyone is dithering over this bass I'd get it bought sharpish, when will you see another 4 string version of one of these and certainly in this colour combo!
8. If you are on a budget, take a look at the (active) Wharefdale Titans. I've used a pair as vocal monitors and FOH on smallish gigs (light rock band so should be a breeze for other less full sounding bands) and they do as good a job as more expensive makes; in fact they do a better job when compared to a pair of recent Mackie speakers (not sure if it was the Thumps).
9. Damn, thought this was what I've been looking for but Google revealed it isn't the Longhorn that I thought that it was (your Burns Bison description is very accurate and that is what made me double check on the model). Best of luck with the sale, I'm sure it'll fly out.
10.
Bump for a gent (no, not you Dave )
Cheers. <edit> Just to say that I've used the spare set of strings that I have to freshen another bass of mine so the bass is sold as is with no spare strings.
11.
Wouldn't think you would as the ad now gives nothing away !
+1 The seller doesn't say what it is or isn't! Actually I've just realised that he has potentially been very VERY clever; watchers/bidders of his earlier listing may well come back to bid on this and get severely stung as he doesn't indicate what it is other than the briefest description... how can a buyer claim misrepresentation? Very clever.
12.
Anybody played the modern player tele bass ???
If you are looking at the Telebass then you may as well buy my funky 54 reissue and route it for a 2nd pup as per a Jazz!
13. If you set aside the argument/debate over the aesthetics of the Roadworn series, the Roadworn Jazz is a cracking bass and worthy of consideration!
14.
... he doesn't say anywhere that it's an Original bass or give any year. We're all just putting 2+2 together.
His previous listing for the exact same bass saysl; "Vintage Fender Precision Bass 1961 pre CBS Made in USA All original parts, no replacements. "
15. Strange that it didn't sell with a reserve @ £2000+ yet it now has no reserve and less details in the listing.
16. The TOTAL lack of info makes me think that it is a wrong un in some way (if not every way)!
17. Not ANOTHER feckin Geordie! Welcome Adam, stick around it can be good craic on here and if you need advice it's always worth asking on BC first... Oh unless it's about wimmin, as we are all useless in that respect (hence we frequent a forum with other bassists)! I'm significantly younger than Big Al (3mths) and we may well know your Dad, so don't feel embarrassed, name names or bands!
18. 8 string Streamer (late 80's) formerly belonging to KRAAN bassist Hellmut Hattler, with a hand-painted/sprayed finish (signed by the artist). Typical Warwick woods and construction with a pair of MEC P pups. It was a great sounding bass and not too different to play from a 4 string but the 8 string sound doesn't suit every band/song! I sold it on ebay some years back and had masses of interest from the USA and Europe but it ended up selling in the UK.
19. Having just looked back through this whole thread (sad I know but several recent postings have had me craving for Warwick p*rn ), I realised that I said back on page 1 or 2 that I'd post up pics of some of my past Warwicks... and I didn't! So here goes (there me be some overlap/duplication as time went by). Just realised that the basses/walls/houses may have changed over the years but that sofa has remained true!
20. PJ equipped Warwick Streamer Stage I It may not be fashionable or even as liked by many but for covering 'many' bases, it does the job!
21.
Guitar Info Your Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan in the Year(s): 1984 - 1987 May not be accurate but without a JV serial No. I don't think it can be a 'JV'. Bargain or not - only the buyer will know! It'll cost about £450 to find out after import costs
Is that an E or K at the start of the serial number?
22.
Do all the JV's have "Fender" in big font then a smaller "Squier"? Curious.
No, only the very first JVs had the large Fender/small Squier logo (other than the non-export Fender/Squier from that period); JV's 'generally' have the small Fender logo. <edit> Oh and out of principle I wouldn't buy a Squier from someone who couldn't spell it correctly in their title.
23. ...when it is a 1990 Jap Squier! Well the serial number dates it to then any way. If you add on shipping and 20-25% in tax/duty then it isn't such a bargain.
24.
I just got an e-mail from the Hamer forum mods who advise that, 'Hamer brand guitars will no longer be produced after the current round of custom ordes are complete.' I find this a sad day. Hamer may not be to everyone's taste, but they certainly resurrected a handful of dead in the water Gibson designs and introduced some new poop into the market. I'll miss them. P
Shame as they made some cracking guitars and basses. I'll still own a Hamer 12 one day but it maybe just got a bit harder to find one!
25. There's also a readily available x2 500w version... not sure about the artwork!
