1.
I'd say no. There is a bit of readjustment required but I was comfortable with my Afterburner within 10 minutes, it's very intuitive really. Having played a Dingwall for some time I am a fan fret convert, it feels more comfortable, much more even feel & response across the strings & the whole thing just feels more "in tune". When I switch to a regular fretted bass now it sounds like the B,E & A are a different instrument to the D & G. If I had the money I would be all over this one.
Thanks for the second opinion re. chords and you are right about the uniformity in tension and tone across the strings! Just to add that the E string is just over 34" and the G string slightly over 32" so there is no worries over longer stretches as you might think that you'd have on say a 36" scale.
 2.
It's kind-of like loads of bass players getting together in the pub. Only not in the pub. And with gear rather than beer. You can bring stuff to show off if you want, or just come along and chew the fat. That's it, really!
Did you have a clip from the one at Seaton Deleval?
 3.
Great bass, good luck with the sale. But i thought the 'Thumper' was a p-bass pup?
DOH! I'm a spanner. you are absolutely correct, they are in fact 'Hammer' pups (Wizard).
 4. Thanks for the offer Jeeks but based on past/recent sales on BC it has to be worth more than that I think. Of course you could buy it @ £700 and sell the extras; I know for a fact that there are at least two people actively looking for a Badass which has to be worth £40-£60 and then the pups are worth £30-£40 (possibly more) I'd have thought!
 5.
OK, not sure I want to buy without trying 1st. Cheers Pete
Fully understand Pete.
 6.
Not traveling South today or tomorrow by any chance?
Ooof not as far as Kettering... I might have managed Sunderland or Durham! Couriers aren't that expensive.
 7.
out of interest what is the difference between a good sounding streamer and a not so good? I was shocked how different bluey and my current one sound.
Interesting... I would think that the main difference between your present SSI and Bluey is the density of the woods; a sub 8lb bass IMHO will sound different to a 9-10lb instrument. On basses of similar weights there is little discernible differences (that I can hear) other than between Streamers that have differing pup configs or body/neck woods. In a blind test I've not been able to tell the difference between MEC / EMG equipped Streamers from different years (assuming they don't differ significantly in woods/construction/weight); though the difference between say a SSI with the early predominantly wenge neck and the later maple neck is very noticeable (obviously the Ltd Ed/SSI/SSII basses do sound vastly different). In conclusion; wood density/weight. My red SSI is over 9lb but it sounds significantly tighter/fuller/more piano like, than any other 'light-weight' SSI that I have had. However, I am prepared to sacrifice a bit of tone to save weight.
 8.
Just a quick question, do the fanned frets make it more difficult to play chords?
I don't play a lot of chords but the 11ths that I sometimes use are actually easier; when you think it through, chords further up the neck don't have as far a reach across the strings.
Dude why can't this have an extra string! Best of luck bro, great basses
Stick one of those new Hipshot 2 step D-tuners on it and you are only missing 1 semi-tone!
 9. Canadian made Dingwall, with lots of info available on-line or visit the Bass Direct site for quite a bit of info. It is very light, well balanced and resonant. Not sure if the fingerboard is morado or a nice piece of close grained rosewood. This is the 'passive' version and I have to say that although I generally play active basses and expected this to maybe not quite have some of the sparkle that an active bass can have it REALLY surprised me; it actually sounds as bright and tight as any active bass yet it does the whole passive vibe great. The fanned frets... they are nowhere near as awkward or difficult to play as you imagine, in fact they aren't really any different at all. The litmus test is that Water-of-Tyne (died in the wool Fender head) tried this bass last week and he commented how easy it was to play (I won't use the word 'adapt' as you don't need to change your playing style). The only subtle changes you need to make are when you go up the dusty end but even then, the natural rotation of your wrist/hand means that the fanned frets actually help. The bass is in excellent nick with no dings, dinks or worming and comes complete with the SKB/Dingwall hard case. I don't 'think' that there's any trades I'd be interested in other than a vintage/Limited Warwick but you never know you can try me but ensure your trade has been accurately weighed and comes in under 9lb! [s]£1575[/s] [s]£1500[/s] £1400
 10. I recently got this in a trade and fantastic as it is, I can't justify having this and my Dingwall Super Jazz; as such I am putting BOTH up for sale and which ever sells first I'll keep the other! The basics of the the 'Roadworn' series are easy enough to find online but essentially it is intended to be a homage to the early 60's Jazz bass and I have to say it does a cracking job. It is light, well balanced, resonant, the fingerboard is a nice piece of close grained rosewood, headstock colour/tuners (reverse turn)/bridge etc. all look the part (Mr J Public couldn't tell this from a pukka 'vintage' bass... but then he'd not know that it was a bass as opposed to a guitar). This particular bass comes with Wizard [s]Thumper[/s] Hammer pups fitted; I have no idea if they are better/different/worse than the stock pups, as they came fitted to the bass but to my ears they sound superb (original pups are supplied if you want to return to stock or to sell on). It'll also come with a spare black pickguard, in case you want to deviate from the standard Roadworn look and it will include a Badass bridge which many consider to be an appropriate upgrade to the stock bridge... again I've not fitted it but you have the option to swap it out or to sell the Badass (several folks on here currently looking to buy Badass bridges). It'll come supplied with a Fender gigbag. I don't 'think' that there's any trades I'd be interested in but you never know you can try me but ensure your trade has been accurately weighed and comes in under 9lb! £700 inc' spare (original) pups, scratchplate and Badass.
 11.
there is part of me that would love to sell you my superlight one, some kind of bass karma.
...Bluey eventually repays me! Patently I'd offer folding stuff or a Roadworn Jazz!
 12. Hopefully this lil hometown bash won't detract from the Moffat affair; I'd have thought that anyone attending Moffat would have booked well before now. However, apologies Alan and those wishing to attend the NE bash who will be at Moffat but I'm sure there'll be ample opportunities in the future. As Michael says, this isn't some mega affair (though it sounds like it will be well attended) with special guests/manufacturers etc, it'll be lighter than that and the chance for Northern bassists to put names to faces (I'll bring along stickers and marker pens).
 13. I've known a similar problem and it turned out to be that the battery connector terminals/soldering/wiring were corroded. It was hard to identify as the actual wiring/solder is inside a plastic sleeve/cover but I dissected it and 'Hey Presto'! Easy enough to replace and cost about 36p for a new battery terminal.
 14.
So it's 10 pounds?!
No, I said my 'ideal' weight for a bass would be about 8lb. The particular bass I'm referring to is 9lb 6oz and I said that it was a lb or two heavier than I'd like. I actually have a Streamer that is 7lb 14oz but it isn't the same maple/maple construction and thus it is less focused. However, I did have a Ltd Ed Streamer which I sold recently and that was over 10lb... hence my selling it.
 15.
WH, tough question for you. Do you have a fave?
In terms of tone there is only one out of all of those basses that has stood the test of time (though I would like to revisit one or two) and it is an all maple (except for the neck stringers) 1990 SSI... probably the least auspicious of all of my basses but in outright terms 'my' personal favourite! However, it is about a lb or two heavier than I would like, if it were 8lb in weight it would be my absolute one and only bass; though if it were that much lighter would it still sound the same?
 16. Alas the lady would need to be rubbed down quite roughly to 'deflower' her!
 17. WoT has just been around to mine and he happened to have the RB IV with him... Swiss Army Knife of tone is the best way to describe it! If anyone is dithering over this bass I'd get it bought sharpish, when will you see another 4 string version of one of these and certainly in this colour combo!
 18. If you are on a budget, take a look at the (active) Wharefdale Titans. I've used a pair as vocal monitors and FOH on smallish gigs (light rock band so should be a breeze for other less full sounding bands) and they do as good a job as more expensive makes; in fact they do a better job when compared to a pair of recent Mackie speakers (not sure if it was the Thumps).
 19. Damn, thought this was what I've been looking for but Google revealed it isn't the Longhorn that I thought that it was (your Burns Bison description is very accurate and that is what made me double check on the model). Best of luck with the sale, I'm sure it'll fly out.
 20.
Bump for a gent (no, not you Dave )
Cheers. <edit> Just to say that I've used the spare set of strings that I have to freshen another bass of mine so the bass is sold as is with no spare strings.
 21.
Wouldn't think you would as the ad now gives nothing away !
+1 The seller doesn't say what it is or isn't! Actually I've just realised that he has potentially been very VERY clever; watchers/bidders of his earlier listing may well come back to bid on this and get severely stung as he doesn't indicate what it is other than the briefest description... how can a buyer claim misrepresentation? Very clever.
 22.
Anybody played the modern player tele bass ???
If you are looking at the Telebass then you may as well buy my funky 54 reissue and route it for a 2nd pup as per a Jazz!
 23. If you set aside the argument/debate over the aesthetics of the Roadworn series, the Roadworn Jazz is a cracking bass and worthy of consideration!
 24.
... he doesn't say anywhere that it's an Original bass or give any year. We're all just putting 2+2 together.
His previous listing for the exact same bass saysl; "Vintage Fender Precision Bass 1961 pre CBS Made in USA All original parts, no replacements.
