Just when I thought I had it... I have rigs all set up etc and all sounding fine and dandy through headphones but I've gone to use the Kemper Profiler hooked up (via main out) to my QSC monitor and it's immediately apparent that the input sensitivity is all to pot! When I load any rig/profile (I'll get used to terminology), I have to turn down the input gain dial otherwise all/any of the rigs I dial up are overdriven. Turning them right down to about 1 or 2 sorts it but I can't imaging you'd have a range of 0 - 10 if everything had to be used on '1'. Having typed this I'm off to see if swapping to the monitor out remedies this or if there is a global setting on the input soft button.

Bass Tech Blackcat + TKS15 - 2023-11-11 14-49-28.kperformance Oh and yes, I did use my TKS 1x15 cab.

Just as an aside! I profiled my Tech Soundsystems Blackcat today... I'd really appreciate some feedback as to the overall tone. Is it as simple as exporting that tiny file and attaching on this thread? I'll not say what settings or method I used as I didn't EQ or manipulate it to get 'my' tone. I just set it up, pressed 'go' and let it do its thang.

You absolute star. When I clicked on the output soft button I was unaware there were 9 pages/screens, I was just viewing whatever was viewed last. I paged back and found the main out was configured to something odd, as soon as I scrolled through to another option it pinged up. Many thanks!

Kemper users... I am getting no output from the 1/4" main outputs, any obvious rookie mistakes? I am getting output from the monitor and direct out sends and I've checked using the output soft button that the volumes are linked and display showing as being up. Off to post on the Kemper site as well.

First 'revelation' for me was knocking the cab sim off many of the sounds improved it massively! With cab engaged many of the stock bass tones seemed compressed to heck or they sounded like I was listening to them through a wooly blanket. I selected a couple of 'standard' captures (Tech Amp among them) from Tech 21, Eden etc, though it took some getting used to the fact they were all labelled with an oblique name to ensure no copyright issues. After loading those onto profiles I went in and tweaked EQ/drive a little but tbh if I didn't like the core sound I passed over it. Just getting my head around the way to use it live, luckily I only use a couple of core sounds and I put effects on only a couple of songs... which leads me to wonder if it is overkill having a Kemper but it seems to be doing what I want.

As I age disgracefully, I've decided to move away from backline/amps etc and go down the route of Kemper Profiler into PA and either a split feed to my personal QSX K10 monitor or to my QSC from the PA Aux send. I realise it is a (very) steep learning curve but I'm finding instruction/guidance on the basics to be thin on the ground. I assume the average user of kit like this won't be a mature person like myself and they'll be diving straight in at the deep end but if anyone has any good resources/sites where the basics gets covered it'd be great to know. I'm aware Kemper do tutorials but they are for things like capturing etc and not the mundane stuff like how you'd use this on a basic level.

re. wearing 1 earpiece. Having read those articles it is apparent the harm comes from the user turning up the volume to compensate when only hearing with 1 ear. Ergo 1 ear bud in being worse than no buds in seems extreme but that is the gist of it. I occasionally (depending on which band/gig set up) used to remove or partially remove one ear bud (moulded attenuated protectors not IEM) so that I could hear the band balance better but I always kept the bud in fully that was nearest the drummer. At no point would volume have been increased for me to compensate, hence one ear bud in and one out would not be any worse, though I concede I was always happier with both plugs in. Just as an aside... I recently tried using a sealed plug (off the shelf silicone jobbie) in the ear closest to the drummer and my moulded attenuated -19db plug in the one closest to my monitor (mounted on a stand at ear height). I was actually surprised but there was very little difference in overall sensation/hearing of frequencies when I swapped back to my x2 custom moulded, attenuated plugs.

Wireless system - Lekato, Boss or something else?
warwickhunt replied to ots's topic in General Discussion
I own the Line 6 G50 (or is it 60?) system 2.4ghz system and I have since bought the cheapo Lekato 5.8ghz as it is more reliable for not dropping out or being affected by routers etc working on 2.4. You will get an upgrade if you spend bigger money but for home use a £50 system is more than adequate. -
£22 is that cheap?
-
Ditto. I cancelled the 2nd order as I'm wary of a 2 month delivery schedule, never mind 3 month.
-
Very odd. Mine were £12.95 but Dec delivery and when I went back 10 seconds later £12.95 with Jan delivery.

Noobie here been offered this (see below)

You can't go far wrong at £50 BUT (imho) I'd not immediately go spending money on upgrades. You'll never recoup the outlay and you might want to try other basses first. -
You can go back and buy another single set but the delivery date will push back!
-
Hmmm 'I' just bought the last set AFTER you and delivery 6th Jan 2024...

Weekend Warriors. How Much For A Gig?
warwickhunt replied to Chienmortbb's topic in General Discussion
I have (paper) diaries from 30 years ago and until recently I've been playing some of the same pubs now that I was then (different managers)... for the same £250 fee! A few ago we started cutting out the venues we least liked and started only playing those prepared to up the fee to £300. Some gigs we lost but on the flip side we did pick up sufficient £300 gigs to balance it. We'll still do late afternoon gigs for £250 as we can still enjoy our evenings or on occasion fit in an evening gig as well. BTW these are 'normal' pub gigs; 2 x 45 sets, starting at 21:00, using our PA and small lights. Anything requiring extra PA or really long timescales we price accordingly. NYE would typically not be a pub gig and we'd want double money as a minimum but possibly triple. -

If you are talking 'used' I don't think you can better these. Added advantage of the tall, thin vertical arrangement. Easy to carry through doorways as well.

Best bang for 'my' buck active PA/monitor cab(s)
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in PA set up and use
re communication with the band live. If you have one person who needs to stage direct/call songs etc, you can get a talkback pedal which in effect when pressed gives a signal direct to the desk outs 'except' for FOH which is muted. Only downside is if you don't want the audience to hear, you'd need to mute this going to any live monitors (easily done).
