I was of the understanding that Markbass stole the thunder of Thunderfunk ( )with the LM11 by having a similar tone but lighter and cheaper. This, as I recall, was the feeling of those on TB at the time of the LM11's release. Personally. I feel I can get all the tones I need from my TTE 500. I've discovered that the colour knob is subtle when playing alone but "thickens" the tone drastically when in a band mix. At it's lowest setting you get quick SS type attack (but not sterile character).By turning this knob you can get just the right sound for the type of music you're playing.
I think any comparison between TF & MB over on TB will have between between a very small select group of bassists I'm not sure that the general populace of bassists would even have heard a TF in the flesh never mind having played one to make a comparison, so the stealing of thunder (sic) was probably just on that thread. However, being a TF owner and having also owned a couple of MB amps (inc' an LM) I'd not have said the tone was comparable... certainly not in a band/gig situation. You've hit the nail on the head with regards to the various 'other' tone controls on Dave Funk's amps, they probably do as much as any full range of tone controls on other amps.

At Heel Truss Rod Adjustment Advice Please!
warwickhunt replied to Billy Apple's topic in Repairs and Technical
Stick the strings on and see what happens, it may be stiff enough or be already set-up for strings of that tension. -
The website suggests it's made for valve jobbies, so I wonder if using something like a class D power amp would have any negative effects on the amp or the cab.
If you mean 'negative' as in damage to the amp or cab then no that isn't possible. However, if you mean negative as in tone, then that really depends on what sound you want out of it; "one man's meat..." and all that!
I saw this...isn't £1k a bit steep?(though they are great basses)..
Not expensive at all for a Pro I bass. -
Only one question... how come I wasn't asked to cover this?
How much should I be looking to insure then bass for during delivery?
You have a choice between what you paid for it and what it is generally worth on the open market... conversely, if it gets smashed in transit, how much do you want back from the insurance/courier company!

Hey Hey, in the 1st post there's my pic from a couple of years ago (far left of the four visible). I won a fantastic leather jacket and a bunch of strings... time to dust of my old Christmas Tree! -
At the moment I have a 550w head and an 800w cab. Changing to the 1000w pre-amp should hopefully work out ok.
If you are changing your set-up for the extra watts; stop NOW! You won't generally be able to get any more volume out of a 1000 watt amp than you are getting out of a 500 watt. Have a look in the stickie section for clarification. However... if you are changing for other reasons then I may well have a QSC power amp for sale that would suit your needs (I also have a preamp but it isn't a cheapie one).
My current bass is a PJ and I've never used the J pickup. I've found that the sound doesn't need the J if you have a really good P pickup.
If for no other reason... P basses should have Jazz pups fitted so that you have somewhere sensible to rest your thumb! I'm sure your bass will be routed by now mate but my Sadowsky PJ has the jazz pup mounted in the 60's spot (see Howie etc above) and I prefer it for the slightly fuller tone you get, even when blended. However, the Sado was designed with that position in mind but I did have a USA P bass a couple of years back that someone fitted a J to and they mounted it 60's stylee and needed to chamfer the back edge of the scratchplate to make it more comfortable to play. Sado 60's position (designed to be thus) USA P bass 60's position (retrofitted)

The 'replacement' neck defo isn't a pukka Tokai one; aside from the badly applied tattoo it is just the wrong shape! I'd doubt the body was Tokai either.

NBD... but someone messed up fretting/pup/bridge installation!
sounds like someone may have found a keeper
Honestly, I'm struggling to find negatives... which I generally can about virtually any bass that has passed through my hands! -
Are you pick or finger (or indeed both)? The angle of those pups looks like it might be ever so slightly uncomfy trying to rest ones thumb on one.
Mainly finger and I have to say that the opposite is true! As the pup slopes up and away it is far more comfortable (for me) than any standard 'straight' pup bass that I have ever tried. -
it's wonky.
Not in the middle it isn't... I'm only going to play between the 5th - 9th fret so I'll be OK!
