Fuse ratings - changing from USA to UK

I've seen a few amps in my time that had the liner out of fag packets wrapped around a blown fuse! -
Fuse ratings - changing from USA to UK
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in Repairs and Technical
Glad to hear you got it worked out. Please let me know if you have any other questions, or need clarification. Enjoy your Hellborg preamp!
Thanks Garey (replies over on the Warwick site also ). The preamp is fired up and working great. I was one of those who trialled it a couple of years ago so I'm familiar with it... now if you could do something about the import taxes that I paid for getting my winning a prize imported from The States, that'd be the ultimate! -
Fuse ratings - changing from USA to UK
Theyre maximum ratings. Dont remember ever seeing a fuse marked anything other than 250V. Main thing is to limit the maximum current.
As I say figures quoted are either straight out of the manual and the fuses supplied were with the preamp which had been used in The States. As it happens our local electronics supplier is open on a Saturday so I jumped in the car and 45 mins later I have the correct fuse... off to power it up! As a side note it's sad that not so long back there'd have been plenty of towns that had somewhere to buy such a fuse yet I had to go to a 'specialist'! -
I've just taken delivery of a Warwick Hellborg Preamp. It was delivered from the States and set to 115v with a pair of fuses that are rated at T1AL 250v. I've reset the rear switch to 240v, however the preamp manual shows that the fuses should be T500mAL for 230V and T1AL for 115V. This has me confused as the fuses are defo stamped 250v yet should they not be 115v? I'm going to contact Warwick to see what the craic is and in the meantime try and find fuses of the correct rating but do I actually already own the correct fuse? The full story of the preamp acquisition is to follow. Cheers

Hellborg Bass Preamp, is really so magic?!
warwickhunt replied to Teobass88's topic in Amps and Cabs
I trialled a Hellborg preamp a couple of years ago and it was a fantastic piece of kit... in fact I've got it returning back to me very soon (for keeps). Don't expect full blown OD or grunge/60's creaminess and you'll not be disappointed; what it does it does bloody well and is justified at being up their with some of the other revered preamps. -
First in the diary gets the booking.
THE number 1 rule and not to be bent or broken on any account (inc' regardless of fee offered) otherwise it's a slippery slope to nastiness and confusion.
Despite other comments remarking that the price is hard to find in the description, I still can't find it???
No price as I'm basically looking for trades. You probably know from experience that when you put a realistic cash 'buy me' value on something people then come in with their "my bass cost £[same value as cash price] new so I'll do you a swap".
Life's too short i think to be giving this guy a hard time over that, especially when there's far easier targets on the bay.
Don't get me wrong, I've no axe to grind against this seller or his instrument. Simply chosen at random as it does occasionally get my goat that some sellers expect to get a 'new' price for something which clearly isn't; as has been pointed out you have absolutely no legal comeback on a 'used' item they way that you would have with the manufacturer/distributor/salesperson of a 'new' item. Patently you can judge a sales listing at face value, however I am simply opening for discussion the fact that something previously sold can not by definition be 'new'.

4 Great Basses for Sale! Lakland Sadowsky Ken Smith
warwickhunt replied to jamesugster's topic in Basses For Sale
A friend was after a 5 string Sadowsky a while ago, I'll get in touch and see if he's still looking for one.

Hi All, Just to let you know i'm still selling the Lakland P bass.... Others have gone! Cheers James
-
So at what point does a bass cease to be 'new'? I'd have thought it would be when the first person to pay for a bass gets it from a distributor or manufacturer... surely once someone has bought something it ceases to be new and can't 'legally' be described as such! However, time and again I find stuff on ebay that is listed as 'new' (using the ebay drop down menu option) and yet patently it can't be! Case in point and I apologise if this turns out to be a BCer but maybe they can explain how it is still new and not used. Stacking 2x10's vertically instead of horizontally?
warwickhunt replied to molan's topic in Amps and Cabs
In 'the real world' where many of us are playing pubs and clubs (as opposed to concert halls and stadiums) there is always going to be the issue of backline v/+ PA and the effects that one has on the other. If you play in a loud band with an energetic drummer and your backline is also the FOH bass sound then it makes absolute sense that 'if possible' you utilise the alignment of drivers to get the best sound for the audience as well as you/the band. It gets very complicated/messy if you are ignoring the physics by putting the bass through the PA and yet are swamping the stage area with your cab(s) which in turn will have an affect on the FOH bass sound. ...sorry what was the argument/discussion about again? -
Despite the fact that a 4x10 in traditional format may not be, in the experts opinions, correct for what we require, we are so used to it.
'Used to it' but only because salesmen don't want to give a better sound because it might not 'look' right.
Most of the 4x10s I've heard have been excellent. As expected, the higher priced models tend to sound a little better, usually,
But the point is that it could be better!
Most famous bass players who are renowned for a certain tone tend to just go with 'what sounds right' to their ears.
However, their 'tone', likely judged a good tone based upon on a recorded sound so the speaker displacement has nothing to do with it, would generally have absolutely nothing to do with their live tone... and they don't play down the Dog N Duck where their cab sound is the FOH sound! -
Stingray 1979 for sale, great price?
warwickhunt replied to steve-soar's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Have to agree that @ £1500 I'd not be dipping into my pocket but at that revised price I'd not even be giving it a 2nd coat of looking at! -
He bought an awful lot of 'Fender' replacement parts as well as Squier basses back in early 2010 inc' 70's neck plate etc.... not saying it is a con but odd that one of the things that he bought was a whole set of NEW Fender tuners!
-
Those tuners look awfully shiny for a 34 year old bass!

I even turn my Aggie DB1x12s on their side/edge so that I can get a bit more elevation. -
