NBD... but someone messed up fretting/pup/bridge installation!
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in Bass Guitars
Are you pick or finger (or indeed both)? The angle of those pups looks like it might be ever so slightly uncomfy trying to rest ones thumb on one.
Mainly finger and I have to say that the opposite is true! As the pup slopes up and away it is far more comfortable (for me) than any standard 'straight' pup bass that I have ever tried. -
it's wonky.
Not in the middle it isn't... I'm only going to play between the 5th - 9th fret so I'll be OK! -
I've had factory installed EMGs in loads of Warwick basses over the years (9v and sounded fine to me) and I've had EMGs retrofitted into various other basses and they sound as good as any other pup with the added advantage that you don't get loads of horrible extraneous noise/interference. In the Warwick basses I felt that they let the tone of the wood come through, particularly in the early Streamer basses with wenge necks and cherry bodies. However, I refer back to the point that they are nice and quiet with regard to noise (other manufacturers are available and work equally as well ).
Well John (WH) did do rather well in a thread about the dishiest BC'er, IIRC
You sure that wasn't a thread on the RNIB forum? -

NBD... but someone messed up fretting/pup/bridge installation!
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in Bass Guitars
The odd thing is that the E string is 34-34.5" with the G string 32" so it isn't as dramatic as the 37" 5 stringers. However, it does make the bass eminently playable. -

Always fancied trying one of these whacky things and got this in a trade with my Sadowsky Jazz via BCer Dougal (top chap)! It's actually quite easy to get used to the fretting (so long as you don't actually look at the fingerboard/frets ;D) and it sounds glorious! Not sure how much difference the variable string length has on the tone (it might sound just as good if it were all 34"!) but my preconception that it might be lacking in comparison to my active basses is totally unfounded (completely passive bass). So the weight, balance, playability and tone are excelent; any downside? Well I (wrongly) assumed that it would be V/V/T or V/Blend/T but in fact the centre pot is pup selector dial Neck/Both/Bridge, not sure if I wouldn't prefer V/B/T but then I suppose it sounds mint 'as-is' so why worry!

A head/cab set that will sound great at bedroom volume?
warwickhunt replied to BassTractor's topic in Amps and Cabs
I use a small Tech 21 'guitar' combo and at home volumes it makes an excellent bass noise as the EQ is more than adequate at low volumes and the speaker isn't under any strain at all! It has the added benefit that I can noodle on a guitar and use the other facilities that the guitar combo has. -
Hi All, Possible trade for either Yam TRB 4string or Warwick Thumb NT 4 string + cash on either option! You know you want this bass!!!
Just to clarify; are you wanting a potential buyer to give you a Thumb NT AND cash or are you prepared to put cash with your bass to give for a Thumb?

It'll likely be an early/first series (didn't know there were more than one). The model is likely printed on the label and I'll check when I get home (it's cedar topped, I know that for sure) along with the nut width. I used to have a generic hard case BUT not sure if I still have it so it is sold as is. ... Oh and yes it is still for sale!

A wedding gig for me... never have and never will like them but I always put my all into any gig so I/we played pretty well considering I have just joined the band and I've only had about 4 rehearsals. We each walked away with £150 from the gig but that doesn't win me over to liking 'Wedding Gigs'!

The early JV Squiers get advertised for £1000+... not saying that many sell at that price and you'd have to factor in any damage or missing/non-original parts. I do think that the fingerboard/dots look unnaturally coloured for a JV BUT that could just be the camera angle etc.
