1. Likely as not a mod can move this to the correct section for you mate.
  2. Two years for this one so you've got a better chance!
  3.
Hey do you have any pics?? X
The thread is THREE years old mate! Good luck.
  4.
It's the compact headstock with the strings winding on to different sides of the machine head post. Something that most likely originated with either Tune or Atlansia.
Yes I realise that the BC basses were copies of Tune etc. but wondered specifically if the OP's bass was made in the same factory as the Masons brand from the 90's?
  5.
I'm still awaiting that call when the Galveston 12ver will be mine
dougal

Just bought 'back' the Sadowsky that I sold to Dougal just over 2 years ago and yet again a pleasure to deal with. Dougal even had the bass delivered to the door before the bank transfer had completed! Many thanks again.
  7.
I'll loan you a 6 string electric guitar... In a side bass related note, I was in your bit of the world on sat. Well newcastle, it's a nice place. I threatened to drag the gf into bass shops after the 50th clothes shop. Also played a 5 string yamaha round the gf's brothers, first time trying a 5 for any length of time. Or a yamaha for that matter. Anyway back on topic....
Should have given me a shout, I'd have met you in Blake's for a coffee!
  8.
GAS!!! Aerosmith Bass!!!
It is indeed... as played by Tom Hamilton!
  9.
Not forgetting the Zon Sonus came back to you John, but I picked up a Streamer from you which is quite frankly the best Warwick I've ever played! Sorry I haven't been in touch about popping down with my basses, things have been crazy at work recently with my rest days getting cancelled...feel like I've never been away from the place!
Now there's a stranger quirk! The Zon I originally sold, traded back from you, then sold again and the Warwick Ltd that you got in the trade I did originally sell then buy back from the same person!
  10. I'm always too drunk to get those off the bottles at the end of the night... 'note to self' take them off the next morning or as you drink them and then you can sell them on ebay!
  11.
It's a GTX Bass of some description - GTX being discontinued a sub-brand of Kamen Music Corporation who also own Ovation and Hamer amongst others.
Is that the same factory that make the 'Masons' brand of basses? If not then they all have a very generic 'Bass Collection' look about them.
  12. I've always found it a pita when using pairs of volume pots especialy when you want to turn the volume down gradually at the end of a song or to do cello style swells using the volume. Though I've never fully researched it (the blends on my active basses work just fine), wouldn't a stacked pot with the volume for each pup catered for by the top and bottom rings work fine? That way when you turn down the volume you can turn both stacked dials at once (it's how I imagined I'd wire a stack-knob Jazz with the tones on the other stack)... does that make sense?
  13.
Of course, we are only going on looks. Some basses play like bitches but look like goddess'
Agreed because essentially looks are the only thing you can't do anything about! I've bought basses in the past that arrived and played like dogs (yes I do indeed buy basses without trying them first) but it's rare (short of a major malfunction such as twisted neck etc.) these days to find a bass that can't be 'fettled' to play well and the tone is pretty subjective any way, especially wants you get above the budget sector bass market. Added to which, a change of pups and/or electrics can make a world of difference to the tone of a bass.
  14.
So if you have the Sadowsky back, what is the Bolin/NS for?
You could equally ask, what is the Sterling (maple board)/Sterling (rosewood board)/SSI/SSI (5th Anniversary)/Ibanez AFR/Aria Sinsonidia/Parker Fly/Galveston (12 string)/Infinette/NS WAV for? They are all different 'flavours' and I pick and choose depending upon the band situation... and sometimes the colour of my shirt!
  15.
EDIT: * No i'm not loaning you warwick hunt!
You sure?
  16.
Never been a fan of the appearance of these but they are certainly quirky Good luck with the sale, I had fun digging through the description to try and find a price
Good point, I'll make it clearer.
  17. I sold her on a whim as another bass became available that I desired (not 'needed') more. What can I say; there are those bassists that are wedded to their bass(es) and those who can quite happily buy/sell/trade/swap and not have many qualms. I'm a mixture of the two as I have a couple of basses that I have owned for 20 years, though other basses that I'll readily sell or trade to try something 'different' (not necessarily better). I'm not going to draw too heavily on the marriage/mistress analogy as I am genuinely happily married and no other woman on earth would let me mess about with basses the way my wife does... well, except for Beedster's... Clarky's... Molan's......
  18.
I have a '86 MIJ Squier permanently on loan to a fellow bassist. Does that count? Davo
Only if you eventually get it back!
  19. I could have put money on the main contributors to this thread... I've only got Barrie to chip in and I'll have the 'full house' that I predicted!
  20.
BTW, that Sadowsky looks familiar John
Yes indeed! I suppose there's only one other bass that I want back and unfortunately the only way that I can get it back is to find a JayDee bass that the present owner would swap me to get it back!
  21. This has just returned to the fold after an extended holiday with another BCer. Is it just me or have many other BCers brought basses back after selling them?
  22. This is the genuine USA model that was only in production for about a year NOT the Far East models. It has a quilted maple front AND back, graphite neck (very slim and 'probably' as slim or slimmer than many Jazz), with (Fishman) piezo pups and DiMarzio (etched on the covers) Jazz pups. The controls are very versatile and IMHO it has the best volume set-up on any bass loaded with piezo and magnetic pups; you have a volume for the piezos, a volume for the magnetics AND a master volume for the lot... effectively you can balance the pups any way you like and then turn the lot down and up with one control (also a pan for the Jazz pups and tone controls for both mag and piezo pups). The bass balances and plays beautifully. I've only had this about 3-4 months but as I now have 3 piezo loaded basses I need to move one on and though it may sound strange reasoning for moving a bass on; my other basses are smaller! That isn't to say that this is heavy (it is less than 8lb in weight and closer to 7.5lb iirc), just physically not as small as my other basses. It has no nasty dings, dinks or worming and is in excellent nick; the frets are also in excellent condition. Comes complete with 'Parker' branded gig bag, the allen keys and instructions. If you don't want the gig bag I'll keep it and knock £30 off. Cheap for a gig bag I confess but if you want to squeeze a deal and you already have a good gig bag or case it might make the difference! I'll obviously supply more pics etc. Collection is best but I will courier it at cost and package it appropriately regardless of whether it has a gig bag or not. Any questions just drop me a PM, I normally respond pretty promptly. Trades - I'm not really sure what I want to be honest! I'd not refuse any style of bass BUT I'm only interested in 4 strings and I'd need to have an accurate weight for your bass and anything much more than 9lb is a definite no. I don't mind adding a bit of cash to a deal but equally I'd take a cheaper bass with cash my way.
  23. How big are the venues, what does your band consist of, do you have a loud drummer/guitarist/saxophonist/etc? A bit more background info will help give a better idea of your needs but tbh it'd be false economy buying a (relatively) cheap NEW package rather than buying a decent used set of gear that you can add to. making a sweeping generalisation prior to your answers; assuming you are playing large pubs/small club size venues, you aren't a 6 - 10 piece band with horns etc and you don't have any band members who insist on playing at stupid volumes, you can 'probably' get away with initially buying a decent set of tops (2nd hand) and you can do without bass bin(s) and likely as not no monitor (sensible on stage volumes and strategic positioning of your FOH speakers will dictate). If you can even budget for one bass bin I'd stop at that (you can end up with phase cancellation if your bins aren't sufficiently far apart, unless you stack them on top of each other... honest), two bins are an extravagance in most pub/small club gigs. You have factored in the fact that you'll need power amp (or two if you use a bass bin) if not going active, a mixing desk, probably a simple reverb, appropriate leads and stands and tbh if they are reasonable gigs you really could do with a simple lighting set-up... on reflection your £1000 budget won't go far for new gear! You could look at a very simple mixer amp and tops set-up but you'll honestly be looking at upgrading stuff in no time if you are getting work that regular from an agent.
  24.
DROPPING THESE DOWN TO £850 A PIECE.
A Stage II for £850 I'm thinking that won't last long!
