1. The item is available for sale on eBay isn't it? The fact that is in The States means that there may well be folks on the other side of the World who might be stupid enough to buy this on the strength and faith of the pics and a description! Patently I won't be as I've formed my own opinion of the guy (that and £12k on a bass is chuffin stupid), though I do think the recent case of an ebay counterfeit violin being smashed up might make for an interesting test case on one of his basses!
2. I've looked at a lot of this guy's sales over many years and I have to say that a few years ago he used to put a description... and just like estate agents speak, the devil was in the detail with regards to what was or was not being offered for sale with regards to originality! You had to have read enough of his sales to know what I mean but needless to say that should he wish he could very easily have deflected any possible claim that something wasn't as described. However, I now note that he doesn't even bother giving any detail, so it is down to any potential buyer to ask very precise and accurately worded questions to ascertain what is actually being sold! I accept that 'caveat emptor' applies but to give so few details publicly on his listing is ridiculous.
3. Ooof at that price I hope it is collected in person... or at least paid for through paypal!
4. A 62 Jazz and ONE pic of the headstock... walk away... FAST!
5.
I'm ambivalent about the ethics of this... While it's interesting to see what's being done to an important bassist's instruments, plus I don't know exactly what sort of deal JB and JE have done, if those were my basses being paraded around for all to see on the internet and being used as publicity for someone else's business without my prior explicit consent, I'd be look at a very hefty discount on the work being done at the very least.
Really!
6.
I have a 3 way switch on my Sterling, not sure what it does but it sounds best in the low position.
Series/single-coil/parallel
7. Our RCF rig (pair 522 tops, one 705 sub) is fantastic and I've not had a bad report on our sound but then I'm sure there are loads of comparable systems.
8. Dave Wilson but it would require you posting the bass! http://www.dwilsonguitars.com/
9.
To start with they're not a cover band.

A covers band that just plays covers from one source = tribute band Whatever, they don't play any original material...........
+1 Whether you call it tribute or covers is semantics; the band are not playing any material written by them but they are playing material written by others and more specifically 'one' band's material. Not knocking it as I do covers and have done for many years (inc most recently a 'tribute'), but a tribute band are doing covers which ever way you look at it!
10. It'll defo not be one of the original Thumb JB basses as the bass has all of the hallmarks of the much newer models and the biggest give away is the CS logo on the back of the headstock; the CS weren't in existence when the first basses were produced. I'd be interested to know how/why the electrics were being modded; it looks like the push fit connectors have been removed, possibly to directly solder and remove one potential weak link for a bass about to gig around the world.
11. Not my type of bass playing at all but I can happily sit and listen (watch) this and admire his dedication, style and feel.
12.
I've recently picked up a bass again after years and bought a Streamer Standard German from a fellow bass chatter, well I'm enjoying playing It so much I was thinking of trading up for a thumb, what I wanted to know is: is a thumb that much better? Bearing mind my bass only see's home use so electrics aren't really an issue, I've read a lot about the body wood of my streamer which I agree witlh (feels like balsa wood) but the neck is excellent build quality and feel, BTW I was also thinking of a Stingray! Always loved the look and sound of stingrays, always loved jazz/funk 80's blah blah blah Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Ta What could I expect to have to add to get one of these basses? (my streamer is great condition single pick up model)
There is potentially a huge difference between your Streamer Standard and a Thumb bass (the greater difference being if you go for the NT Thumb) and it isn't just the difference in price (possibly ££400-700+ difference in values), they sound like completely different beasts. If you have the money to go for a Thumb as a house bass then great but tbh if you like the Streamer and it is a house bass I'd stay where you are.
13. Always fancied one of these, almost bit on the fretless one that 'eubassix' sold some time back! Wonder if I am developing a fascination for piezo basses; my Parker Fly, Bolin... Peavey BB! LOL
14. Unbelievably it is bid up to £565 and still hours to go!
15. If it fits then it'll work. Speakon connectors are a doddle to fit so just unsolder one of your jacks and fit the connector.
16.
...and the price you would be looking for?
That caught me out... it's in the subheading!
17. Bought a g*itar (shhhh) off Gemma and all was as should be, good comms, packaging and instrument as described. Cheers Gemma.
18. How many variables in that question! Rehearsal; based on an average drummer in a band not at silly volumes, through a cab with average sensitivity I'd want about 150w BUT there are loads of folks who could do it with a lot less and if you have any variables in that mix you might want more wattage!
19. Sometimes you can just chuck a higher spec speaker in and it works fine but for best results you need to match the driver to the cab and porting. First off I'd establish if there is anything wrong with the speaker (some of the drivers in those Peaveys are Black Widow and they are a decent driver); what is actually 'wrong' with the sound that makes you think the driver needs replacing?
20. Thunderfunk 750 for the amp!
21. I'll consider both of them sold. You OK with doing a bank transfer as I dislike paypal?
22.
Think I'll give up on this thread and go talk to the cat :-)
Is it in a case?
23. Ah ha! Just got the plugs out of the draw and noted that both pairs are flesh coloured (and I've noted I said that in my original post)! Just thought if either of you just need a single attenuator I'll sell a single for £20, I'll then keep one as a spare myself!
