1.
Also have to say that there is a 'General duscussion' section for 'chat' and this is a sale/trade section!! Also have to agree that a PM tends to get answered quickly as it notifies your email, whilst general chatty comments are only available once you visit your thread. As most of us are generally busy folk, continually browsing your thread in anticipation of a 'comment' isn't a priority. No doubt get some flak for the comments...
Hang on! You think that 'chat' on sale threads is unnecessary and folks should refrain and stick to PMs... but you post a comment that, "Pierre is a great guy to deal with so buy/trade in total confidence". Howay get a grip, it's an internet forum about 'basses' and short of slagging a sellers price off it has been historically a place to have a bit of banter about all things 'bass'! 2.
Great collection mate
Cheers. I have one or two others out of shot (Parker Fly, Warwick Infinette, Aria Sinsonidia) but if I'm picking up a bass for a gig, it is one of these!
  3.
What year Sterling is that? Very tasty, same finish as mine, 'cept mines neck is 1 piece birdseye maple.
The dark one with the mutes is a '94; a plain maple neck and a nice deep slab of rosewood to top it off!
  4.
Whooaa Rita returns Very nice too, has she aged well?
Same as when she left you I'd say!
  5.
Did you sort a piezo for the Parker Fly, WH?
The guy sorting it did.
What, as in think you will have to wait till then before the secondhand prices are above that of a new mexican fender?

I'm guessing it's .... must be an infinity unless you sold them both?
Correct. The 'new' one, 1991 bass that has never been gigged and is in museum quality condition.
  6.
Jon! there's as many sterlings there as there are warwicks! (but glad to see old red still there)
I have another Warwick tucked under the bed as my pension! LOL
  7.
difficult to say...i may drop them a line and let them know.
That would certainly clarify it for a potential buyer if not for us!
  8.
I'm in love with that! What a great sound -
Cheers but it is literally through a pants camera mic, with the bass going through my Tech 21 guitar combo, the bass sounds better through a proper bass rig and in the flesh.
  9.
Looking good. what's the sound of a Bolin like? Any sound clips/youtube links you can point me to?
I was messing about trying a camera out so there is a small clip here but not truly representative. It sounds great fingerstyle, very open and responsive but it will NOT do slap! LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtIWz-_SYSc
  10.
that's an EMC (european music company ?) pickup... i think tanglewood are part of the EMC stable. edit: looks like an similar pickup on this thread
Well spotted but the seller does clearly state 'EMG' in the title and in the listing. An oversight or hoping to catch the unwary/stupid?
  11. I sold my Zon Sonus and felt compelled to replace it... with two basses. The 'Jaffa Cake' Bolin is new and delivered from the States last week... 4 years after I bought the green one from the very same guy! The lighter coloured Sterling (white plate) is a return of an old flame; Rita!
  12. Do EMG do a pick-up that has the legend 'EMG ELECTRONIC' stencilled on the outside like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190627740564?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_500wt_1202 Added to which it looks very crude underneath (just a pair of Jazz pups in a MM casing though the top shows the 4 large pole magnets) and certainly the wiring/soldering looks a tad shoddy for EMG! I could be wrong but it just doesn't seem like an EMG product.
  13. As much power as you can afford with more inputs than you 'think' you need! Try and source a set of Peavey Hisys cabs (the 15" Black Widow equipped should be in your price bracket). We had a set and gigged pubs with them for 15 years without ever blowing a speaker (though a few Hisys had blown horns in the early days they were generally sorted under warranty), sold our cabs last year for £100 to a local DJ and they are still going strong despite being used 5 nights a week since I sold them!
  14. While you are still active and checking the thread... LOL It might pay you to actually list the basses that you have for sale. I wasn't going to click on the bassgallery links but was surprised to see a nice M Miller in sunburst and folks looking for a roadworn (they are popular at the mo) might not notice it!
  15.
please do not write on the thread, if you are intersted, just PM me
It's called 'Basschat' for a reason mate!
  16. If you want a 34" scale bass then it's worth looking at the Aria Sinsonidia (easily within budget used). With the 'wings' removed it is essentially a stick bass but the 'wings' are easily stored and fitted to make it more conventional for comfort and it has the added bonus of working with headphones (even some active basses don't have enough clout to drive headphones)... and most importantly, they sound bliddy good!
  17. Hmmm! Aside from the unscientific approach to the demo of the 'cab' abilities, I'm just overall not sure of the validity of the demo tbh. We are hearing a £2000+ amp and £3000 bass (with whatever effects/outboard that is adding the reverb; not mentioned in the demo) through the cab so they've ensured that you have a quality input and the fact that when he is playing I can hear the camera mic picking up finger noise... at that kind of volume I'd not expect the drivers to be complaining or farting, so not really a good demo of the cabs ability to handle low end or power!
  18. Contact 'The Bass Doctor' he has some lovely tort guards (look vintage colour not like the horrible salami coloured ones). He has all the appropriate templates so no need to worry about fit!
  19.
hi guys i love playing bass but most theory goes way over my head.4ths 5ths ect leaves my bamboozled. my question is do you really need a vast knowledge of theory to enjoy music my band has a cd out althought not ground breaking i have always just played by ear and play what sounds good to me. I wouldnt know if i was playing bass chords or just playing with myself. i suppose im just insecure in the fact that if i dont know every bit of theory going ill never make it as a decent bass player my 2 favourite bassists are john myung who knows the bass inside out and the other is steve harris who even though is an absolute monster on the bass would admit to not having much knowledge of theory id love to here some of your opinions jamie
You don't 'need' music theory to enjoy music or to play bass but having some music theory can do you absolutely no harm, so it is a no-brainer not to! To say that Steve Harris hasn't much knowledge of music theory is probably doing him a MASSIVE disservice, I bet he knows a damn sight more than you think. As to learning basic stuff like what 4th and 5ths are, it is literally a 15 minute lesson... so long as you had the 15 minute lesson before that one explaining what major and minor scales were!
  20. Renowned piece of 'chocolate fireguard' design!
