1. This is the genuine USA model that was only in production for about a year NOT the Far East models. It has a quilted maple front AND back, graphite neck (very slim and 'probably' as slim or slimmer than many Jazz), with (Fishman) piezo pups and DiMarzio (etched on the covers) Jazz pups. The controls are very versatile and IMHO it has the best volume set-up on any bass loaded with piezo and magnetic pups; you have a volume for the piezos, a volume for the magnetics AND a master volume for the lot... effectively you can balance the pups any way you like and then turn the lot down and up with one control (also a pan for the Jazz pups and tone controls for both mag and piezo pups). The bass balances and plays beautifully. I've only had this about 3-4 months but as I now have 3 piezo loaded basses I need to move one on and though it may sound strange reasoning for moving a bass on; my other basses are smaller! That isn't to say that this is heavy (it is less than 8lb in weight and closer to 7.5lb iirc), just physically not as small as my other basses. It has no nasty dings, dinks or worming and is in excellent nick; the frets are also in excellent condition. Comes complete with 'Parker' branded gig bag, the allen keys and instructions. If you don't want the gig bag I'll keep it and knock £30 off. Cheap for a gig bag I confess but if you want to squeeze a deal and you already have a good gig bag or case it might make the difference! I'll obviously supply more pics etc. Collection is best but I will courier it at cost and package it appropriately regardless of whether it has a gig bag or not. Any questions just drop me a PM, I normally respond pretty promptly. Trades - I'm not really sure what I want to be honest! I'd not refuse any style of bass BUT I'm only interested in 4 strings and I'd need to have an accurate weight for your bass and anything much more than 9lb is a definite no. I don't mind adding a bit of cash to a deal but equally I'd take a cheaper bass with cash my way.
2. How big are the venues, what does your band consist of, do you have a loud drummer/guitarist/saxophonist/etc? A bit more background info will help give a better idea of your needs but tbh it'd be false economy buying a (relatively) cheap NEW package rather than buying a decent used set of gear that you can add to. making a sweeping generalisation prior to your answers; assuming you are playing large pubs/small club size venues, you aren't a 6 - 10 piece band with horns etc and you don't have any band members who insist on playing at stupid volumes, you can 'probably' get away with initially buying a decent set of tops (2nd hand) and you can do without bass bin(s) and likely as not no monitor (sensible on stage volumes and strategic positioning of your FOH speakers will dictate). If you can even budget for one bass bin I'd stop at that (you can end up with phase cancellation if your bins aren't sufficiently far apart, unless you stack them on top of each other... honest), two bins are an extravagance in most pub/small club gigs. You have factored in the fact that you'll need power amp (or two if you use a bass bin) if not going active, a mixing desk, probably a simple reverb, appropriate leads and stands and tbh if they are reasonable gigs you really could do with a simple lighting set-up... on reflection your £1000 budget won't go far for new gear! You could look at a very simple mixer amp and tops set-up but you'll honestly be looking at upgrading stuff in no time if you are getting work that regular from an agent.
3.
DROPPING THESE DOWN TO £850 A PIECE.
A Stage II for £850 I'm thinking that won't last long!
4. This should sell sharpish as I've had someone asking me about TF's quite recently, I'll check my PMs and see if I can locate the interested party.
5.
Warwick Dolphin Set neck excellent condition Trial welcome First to see will buy £800 ovn 07908 643652 Will upload picture later
A bit more detail like who and where you are might help, especially as you only joined 9 mins before you posted your Dolphin up for sale.
6.
I thinks the price issue relates to two things: (1) the absolute level is up in hand-built luthier territory (which is an issue with all CS Fenders) and (2) could it be a more basic plank? There is nothing about that bass that screams expensive parts/build, albeit I bet it sounds great ... just probably no better than a Squier VM 50s Precision
I find this quite interesting (I'm honestly not trolling); if the bass had a few more controls, maybe an active preamp then it might be a bit more justifiable... yet the couple extra controls (even an extra pup) or active EQ might only cost a few dollars to the manufacturer. So that almost negates the argument about it being basic. I also agree that 'theoretically' very few basses can justify costing x10 what a Squier etc. cost!
7. So the price is the stickler for most; £2824 for a Custom Shop Fender... isn't that about right? A Mexican P or J RW will set you back £1000, a Metroline Sadowsky (Japan) will see little change from £2000 but a USA CS Fender @ £2800 is wrong? Oh by the way I must state for the record that I have a love/hate relationship with Fenders and certainly won't be in the cue to by this or any other Fender product; I'm simply trying to establish 'why' the price tag seems so ridiculous I concede that if those folks baulking at the price are doing so simply because that price is ridiculous for ANY instrument then fair-does!
8. Historically he has used Fenders obviously but oddly enough his basses for many years have looked like Fender (and sometimes NOT ) but have been custom made by John Bolin.
9. Buy a Warwick and you have a nice 'bell-metal' alloy... defo NOT Stainless Steel.
10. Is it easy enough (and not 'too' expensive) to get another one of those Suhr Jazz pups? I realise you mentioned driving down the M1 but do you ever venture North up the M1?
11. Is this really the first time I've bought from Clarky? With our track records I find that hard to believe. Pleasure doing a deal with the young fella and always stress free when dealing with an established member of the community who knows how to deal with others. Just need Clarky to buy some more lightweight skinny neck basses and I'll be in there again.
12.
My conversion was quite off! 3 3/4 stone.
Quite off... and it's now 3 and 3/4 stone! Bliddy hell that's some weight!
13. Any interest in trade for basses rather than amps?
14. What's the weight on the Modulus David?
15. Nice look and tone.
16. Refinished body and neck, replacement pickguard and pick-up... at least not quite 'Trigger's Broom'!
17. This is a little used 12 channel mixer (not powered i.e. you need power amps) which has basically been little used and in the last 2 years has been maybe used 6 times as a sub-mixer for live use. Loads of info (inc' manual) available on the net. It's in mint condition as it has been cased since new, all of the faders, buttons, knobs etc. work 100%. £120 (+carriage)
18. LOL I've literally been commenting on an almost identical situation on a local music forum. A band played at a local pub venue recently and at the end of the evening the bar manager approached the band and renegotiated their fee down... because THEY hadn't brought any extra punters with them! Now this was never prior agreed nor was it implied and we are talking about knocking down the fee at the 'end' of the night when the band have played two full sets inc' 3 encores. Needless to say the band are aggrieved but didn't make an issue of it on the night (more fool them, some might say). The manager's defence was that the crowd that were in were locals and also members of the local darts team who were at the venue regardless and no extra punters were brought in by the band. My argument would be that the manager hired the band for their services to entertain the crowd NOT to bring 10 - 20+ people along with them. There has been debate on the matter with other bar managers saying 'fair does' and bands saying 'get stuffed'; now bands need venues and music venues need bands so it should be symbiotic BUT to think that it is acceptable to dock monies at the end of the evening is a joke.
19. I have to confess that the GK stuff looks a bargain and my past experiences are that they are robust... result!
20.
Having a bass head and cab with Speakons only, and a couple of guitar combos wouldn't pose too many problems in that respect though, unless the clients were really ingeniously stupid.
Good point... until they start connecting several up! LOL
21. Your mate needs to take into consideration that a lot of folks using rehearsal rooms are complete fcukwits when it comes to using gear! Not all but you'd be amazed. Reliability and ease of use are paramount; my mate runs a rehearsal studio and he had LOADS of grief when he bought cheap cr4p the first time round and it took no time for the gear to die/get wrecked. Our own personal gear might get used a couple times a week (more if you use it in the house) and gets used by someone who knows how it works; rehearsal rooms can have gear running 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week and being used by folks who don't have the foggiest idea about input gain never mind ohmage issues (more in a second). As such I'd personally be looking at Peavey gear as it has a proven track record (old Trace gear stands up to abuse but then you are talking used). Also, though they may not be everyone's cup of tea I'd suggest combos rather than separates; reason being that I've known bands swap cabs around and plug multiple cabs in using all sorts of cr4ppy guitar leads and it is all too easy to have a bassist grab a bass amp and plug it into a guitar 4x12 (using some totally inappropriate cable) and before you know it you have a blown 'guitar' cab or worse if they stick a couple of 4 ohm cabs on an amp that operates at min 4 ohms and you have a fried amp (bonus of some of the Peavey gear is that it is safe down to 2 ohms... though you don't tell your rehearsal space customers that ). Not trying to put him off but he needs to assume that everyone is an idiot... then he won't be disappointed!
22.
Hey buddy , do you happen to have a rear-ported cab on hand , if so , I was thinking like that also , so nothing s personal here , try playing true it ,then move the cab @ lots of places in the place, you ll haer the difference it makes sonically . That s why I want my cabs front ported , have a nice one out there .
No you are absolutely correct moving a cab closer to a wall for boundary reinforcement (or better still a corner) WILL make an audible difference but it won't matter if the cab is front or rear ported. Moving it 'too' close to the wall or corner can be detrimental but again it makes no difference if it is front or rear... and believe me, following on from a thread re. porting, I tried this.
23.
Rear ported cabs can t be put in everywhere on stage , some time you don t have any choice but put where there s space . that s why I don t like them also . i like front ported , well tuned cabs with a flat frequency curve .
I was under the impression that scientifically it makes no difference if a cab is front or rear ported with regard to placement; a ported cab acts like a ported cab no matter where the port is. Sound doesn't come out of the ports so front or back is immaterial... a cab should be correctly tuned no matter where the port is!
24. The guy is having a punt and hoping there is some idiot out there with more money than sense! £12,000 would literally have to have been found in Leo's loft with the serial number 00000001 on it.
