1.
...and for the current price of £500, is still a great buy for someone.
Technically £640 at present when you add on the £120 shipping and where do you stand with regard to import duty/taxes from Japan? With 6hrs to go it could go up further but I'd say that £640 +taxes isn't exactly cheap!
 2.
Is it actually a misaligned bridge or has someone used the wrong groove on the threaded saddles to try and get a wider spacing or just cocked up a string change?
To get that G string far enough off the edge of the board you'd then 'seriously' have it misaligned over the saddle!
 3.
Actually (he said twiddling his moustache) it's a misaligned bridge that's the problem. Check out where the strings go over the pups.
Good point. Still sloppy!
 4.
Completely overpriced & sensible offers have been rejected. Seller obviously clueless about value...
I agree but he's probably hoping to recoup some of the money spent on the case... which tbh is a lost cause as it's very difficult to justify asking more than £10-£20 for that sized case regardless of what it cost new!
 5.
as in G string falling off edge of board?
I'd say so, a misaligned neck for sure. Not unfixable but if you were buying a MIJ P bass and paying top money you'd want the neck lined up; I'd be bitterly disappointed if I bought that without noticing or the seller describing that issue.
 6.
So it does, I was stuck on the title!!!! Is there any pictures of the Pre CBS P Bass?
Now that's the picture that I would have put in the OP rather than a 70's P bass!
 7. The guy is very correct in stating that it is a Fender JV (non-export) not a Squier JV and has loads of high res images... though not so many that show the whole of the length of the fingerboard from straight on; can you see why? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160658995674?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_19905wt_1163
 8.
The picture in the post appears to be a 70's precision bass which is not pre CBS era. Is that the bass you are referring to?
The OP does also mention that he has a 70's Precision available.
 9. First off; I have a dodgy shoulder so I am one of the first to ask the weight of a bass (9lb+ and my shoulder is shot after a gig). However, in answer to the non-specific question of whether the weight issue is a modern thing... 20+ years ago there was no bass forum on which people discussed/sold/bought basses! I believe it really is that simple; media/communication. 20+ years ago you may have read about the weight of a bass in a magazine and were you the sort who had a dicky back/shoulder/knee/whatever, you'd have given said bass a wide berth and yes I do recall discussing the weight of 70's Fenders with friends, especially as I had a Fender weighing 12lb which likely as not contributed to my knackered shoulder!

 11. The 'lewyyy' (x3 y) that I've just bought a guit*r (yes the inferior small 6 string version of a bass) from, is a pleasure to deal with and the guitar was as described. Cheers Lewy.
 12.
too bad this lovely bass is withdrawn.. what was the asking price? If I may ask...
Presently on ebay.
Never saw one of them before, withdrawn but amazing!
Many thanks.
 13. A shameless plug but I have a set of ER15 filters (just the filters obviously) for sale if anyone is looking at changing from 25's etc.
 14. I'd personally not go down the route of 'Custom' one off style builds unless it is the ONLY way you can get what you require; as the hit if you decide to sell is mahoosive in comparison to an EB/MM or Sadowsky!
 15.
But that site isn't 100% reliable, especially on discontinued basses.
So true... and sometimes emails to Warwick HQ don't give the most reliable responses!
I thought that MEC began as part of Warwick but became a separate company.
MEC were initially separate from Warwick and then they were bought out/brought into Warwick... saved a small fortune in having to buy in pups from the likes of Bartolini, Seymour Duncan and EMG (there was also the matter of the wrangle with Spector and the licensing which may have been a contributing factor to Warwick making the MECs standard kit as opposed to the regular EMGs)
 16.
I've had my ten year old ray for a few months now and love it, the actives were working fine so I have never felt the need to look at the battery until an hour ago, and I had a problem getting the battery out, it needed some persuasion with a plumbers wrench before it came out. The negative terminal is a bit corroded and green on the battery, ive fitted a new battery and its all working fine, should i replace the battery holder on the guitar and if so is it an easy job? G...
If you know the basics of soldering it is a doddle; either snipping 2 wires then stripping and resoldering to the new connector (if you have enough wire) or if your new terminal has wires connected it is even easier as you are snipping off the old and then joining the new wires to the old (so long as you have sufficient space to coil in the new wiring). You've no need to be going into the control pot section and unsoldering anything from there, it's just the actual snap on connector you are replacing. Be sure to get a decent battery connector as a cheapie that will flex/break/not grip is a nightmare.
 17. have you tried/compared these Status strings before? I've used DR Sunbeams but I'm not prepared to pay the present prices, so I'm looking for decent nickel alternatives.
 18.
What sort of detail differences did you see in the P pickups warwickhunt? And what sort of era RB was it?
IIRC the P pup was from another BCer (I'd already bought one MEC P out of a Streamer NT from a BCer) and when I asked for descriptions codes etc it apparently wasn't even active (could it have been a Dynamic Correction... do they even do a DC in P config) so I didn't even pursue the purchase. I did ask on the Warwick forum and I posed the same question about values of pups in cheap basses and I was informed that they weren't the same... how could they be as that would make a traversty of the relative values of instruments!
 19.
I'm really tempted to go and see this just for the crack, but as I despise tyre kickers, I keep fighting the urge...
You haven't got time to go kicking tyres young fella me lad... or is this a new tactic to avoid 'other' duties!
 20.
You seem to be wondering if you could buy a cheap Rockbass so as to get a pair of very expensive pickups. And the answer is, believe it or not, YES, you can!
I thought that Mart but my research (questions to Warwick and physically examing the pups) showed that the cheapest Rockbasses don't have the same pups as found in the German basses. There is some x-over with the earlier Corvette basses and the NT German basses but not the recent Rockbass. It's so vague as to what is available in which bass that I left well alone.
 21.
For a sale is £1500
Just going to look in the loft for a £1500 5 string... nope not got one!
 22.
Ah. I dont suppose you have some literature i could peruse regarding the matter, or is this something you've gleaned from years of experience?
Just donkey's years of owning Warwicks! As has been stated, new Warwick/MEC prices are 'mad' and there are so many variations that I'd not be buying a set of pups off an unknown source/bass unless I knew EXACTLY what I was getting. I recently acquired (then sold back to the owner) an MEC P pup and thought I could easily snag a second to drop into a PP bass but what a nightmare sifting through what was for sale (especially ebay).
 23. In short... No they aren't! There are all sorts but they aren't really marketed as replacement parts (standard issue across the Warwick range), so differentiating the models isn't something that gets pushed. There are full blown MECs that are in the German basses and they are full active (i.e. like EMGs), down to the 'Dynamic Correction' MECs that appear in the Far East models.
 24. I had one with EMGs... or was it MECs, it wasn't Barts but I loved it. Only sold it in a pique of madness. Would love to get another (this one would do fine) but I don't have a 5 to offer in exchange.
 25. Dodgy jack socket... the scourge of Warwick basses! Be sure to fit a good quality one (Switchcraft or better) as it's false economy to fit a cheapy (or dare I say another Warwick one )
