2. Probably better off in another section of the forum!
 3.
Don't f*** with the 'hunt
It wasn't something I did straight away as that would have been obvious (and he had my home address) but sometimes it's better served cold... just wish I could have seen his face! <edit> Just realised it probably isn't the best idea to advertise on an open forum what you've done so I'll delete that comment!
 4.
If he does'nt want to sell he won't sell I had this with a G&L bass, I won it and paid paypal but the seller just refused to sell it to me and refunded my paypal
I won a no reserve (non-Warwick bass) on ebay from a guy who lived about 5 miles away; the bass sold ridiculously cheap and unsurprisingly the seller point blank refused to answer any of my emails or ebay messages, I even paid via paypal and that was refunded. I went through the ebay process to get his home number and called him, he was a bit surprised to say the least and basically said that he wasn't selling that cheap so I could go take a jump... 30 minutes later I turned up on his doorstep! He ranted a bit and told me to 'go forth and multiply' but I resolutely stood my ground and explained that he had entered into a contract and that was a contract that I intended completing. He went inside and closed the door and just as I was on the verge of giving up knocking on his door (approx 15 minutes), the Police turned up. The seller came out and started shouting and gloating at me, right up until I'd quietly reasoned with the two officers and presented my paperwork from ebay (yes sad I know but I had printed it off just incase the guy denied any knowledge), at which point the officers told the seller to sort this out as it was not a criminal matter (civil) and that I was within my rights to be there paying for the item that I had purchased. The police duly left and the guy slammed the door! The end of the story is a bit of an anti-climax as he still didn't open his door or sell me the bass but he was removed from ebay (seems my purchase wasn't the only one he pulled out of). I could have started a civil court case but it really wasn't worth the hassle. I did however get my own back on him but that is another story.
 5.
nice photo. Are the pickups slightly angled or is that a trick of the photo? and.... thats not wee dip switches on the bottoms of the pups is it?
Correct on both counts! The pups are slightly angled, though I would guess it would make very little audible difference. The dip switches on the bottom alter the frequencies (though you wouldn't adjust mid song/gig) and through a decent amp and cab you really can hear the difference... just wish I could find some reference material on the web as to exactly what the settings are (my fave is as they are set at present).
 6.
Not so cheap, check the sellers feedback and you'll see this; Negative feedback rating seller contacted me and wanted winning bid price raised before he would sell. Member ID musicman2322 ( Feedback score of 48Yellow star icon for Feedback score between 10 to 49) 05-Aug-11 16:36 bass guitar warwick stage 2 streamer (#130555047654) £647.00 View Item Prat. If he wanted more he should have put a reserve on it.
If it were me that was the winning bidder, I'd have his address off ebay and be knocking on his door tomorrow morning.
 7.
Whilst we're on the topic of expensive basses---whats the holy grail when it comes to old, expensive basses? The bass equivalent of a 1959 Les Paul, say.
If you are on about strictly Warwick basses, it'd probably be the first run of Streamers (paddle headstock as licensed by Spector with one piece bridge), JD Thumb basses (though both of these basses can still be found and bagged for less than £1k). However some of the early (proper) Ltd Ed basses are probably worth having. I've been offered £3k for my 5th Anniversary Ltd Ed Streamer (oddly made in 84 but released in 87) but I wouldn't part with it.
 8.
My ummm what was in disbelief at the price....
Ah!
 9.
ummmm what?
A Streamer Stage II (yes the rare expensive one) just sold on ebay for £647... in fact the eventual winning bidder would have got it for £505 if it weren't for one other person bidding £627!
 10. Of course if you keep your eyes peeled on ebay you can bag a mega bargain... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...T#ht_500wt_1156
 11. Did anyone get it? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...T#ht_500wt_1156
 12.
They look good, but somehow Spector found a way to make that shape look just a little bit more elegant and appealing.
Oooh now I think the opposite; the bodies of the USA and Euro Spectors that I have owned have been a bit like a Streamer that has eaten a pie or two!
 13.
early ones were cherry i think, the ones with the thick thick stripes. the thin stripes and 2 part bridges were maple and the current ones have really thin stripes
Your 91 SSI will defo be Maple (as LukeFRC has said Cherry was only used till about 88-89), with a Maple neck and slim wenge stringers/laminates and a wenge fingerboard (only ever heard of one Rosewood and one Ebony but there is no guarantee they weren't replacements and/or fretted fretless basses). As for the difference in tone between the Spector and the Warwick... YES! They are different and despite them being almost identical in shape and construction, they will never sound the same. It's down to personal taste but I've always preferred the tone of the SSI despite owning Euro and USA Spectors (whereas Cetera feels the opposite ). I'd put it down to construction (they are subtly different) and preamp because I've owned both types that have full active EMGs in and I've done an A/B test and they were still different. Vive le difference and simply enjoy.
 14. It'll probably help you if you actually mention in the title what it is you are selling!
 15. Do you have an accurate weight for the bass?
 16.
if there are other bidders... I'd feel very tempted to cancel his bids and block him from bidding. His behaviour says "I'm a difficult buyer" to me...
I was contemplating that but in the end I sold the car locally and ended the listing.
 17. Sting's Spector was a white PJ thru-neck but Cetera would know the craic with this model I'm sure.
 18. I voted Boss Tweed even though I own the (popular) black!
 19. That's a cracking price for a bass of this quality!
 20. Sorry mate you have to state a fixed price when selling stuff... thems the rules!
 21.
I don't understand the shill bidding detection algorithm you're all using. Why is bidding up in small increments any better than putting in one bid for the minimum amount you're prepared to accept? Especially as it just draws attention to what you're doing, if you are a shill.
Basically a shill bidder doesn't want to win the auction so they'll regularly just stick bids in of small increments hoping to goad more bids from other interested parties. As to sticking in one bid; a shill bid can be done this way especially if the seller has an absolute minimum they want for an item and aren't prepared to gamble with selling it cheap. The little and often shill is intended to draw in regular bids from other ebay users who don't do the one set bid in the last seconds/minutes!
 22.
I sense he may let you down if he's the winning bid.
I agree!
 23. Oddly enough I've got my Estate car on ebay at the moment and a bidder has come along and bid the car up in the silliest small increments possible and as of today I have something like 80 bids with 95% of the bids coming from this one guy! I know for a fact that to the wary buyer this will look like shill bidding and I am wondering whether the bidder has deliberately/strategically done this to put others off by making it appear like shill bidding... I've hence contacted the guy and asked if he wants to view the car to be sure it is worth further bids ( ), however he has said that he lives in Birmingham and he's happy to wait till the auction ends before driving to Northumberland for the car!
 24.
Shouldn't the first post contain the price?
It should but a quick look at the V&R link reveals the price @ £15,250
