2.
Surely though if you shill and get caught out you're better canceling via mutual agreement rather than keeping up the pretense and paying Ebay fees on the selling price. Or am i missing something?
'IF' it is a case of shill bidding and the seller has done it before (especially with the same mate) then he may be aware that ebay monitor (automatically) cancelled transactions. Several retractions between the same buyer/seller generates ebay warnings and investigations, added to which I've seen sellers with feedback that is almost exclusively made up of transactions between multiple ID's... it inflates positive feedback (yes I know it is an expensive way of doing it but not everyone is savvy enough to realise that). I'd be interested in hearing from the BC seller as it then informs our opinions on matters like this in the future.
 3. Worst case scenario - his mate's shill bid(s) didn't snag a buyer. Best case - it was a change of heart by the buyer who possibly lives to far away.
 4. For what you'd pay for a new Pro/Artist series Warwick you could have my German made 1990 Streamer Stage I (neck-thru and active)...
 5.
However, when i introduce my Euro 4LX to this set up, the sound from the PJ (EMG pups and Tonepump) set up is weak and scratchy in comparison to the 5's.
I've owned Spector Euro basses and I've never considered them weak or scratchy sounding! Is your PJ bass et up correctly (i.e. pups adjusted nice and close to the strings) as that can massively affect tone; ask 'Lukefrc'. Also does your bass have a fresh battery in and is your amp input adequately matched to the bass output, ensure that the input gain is matched to suit the bass rather than expecting the two basses to have the same signal strength.
 6.
Quite a bit of interest, but nothing firm. Off to eBay next week...
Don't forget that ebay fees have gone up to a flat 10% add the paypal fees and you'll have to sell for approx £2350 to get back the £2100 you want on BC... just saying!
 7.
I'm glad this is not my wedding lol
I'm 99% certain that the band was booked as a direct result of either being fans of the band and/or mates of said band. I do concede that Si is right, there is nothing worse than a band just doing their normal thing to almost 'spite' the assembled masses at a wedding but this does appear to be a laid back affair.
 8.
I like your thinking! Who's the band BTW?
'Someone Else's Omelette'... that's the name of the band btw, not a reference to Michael!
 9.
And the public know any of those songs?? :-P Si
Not my band so in that respect I don't mind... I personally won't take a booking for a wedding as I dislike them intensely but this is a mate asking a favour NOT me doing a wedding per se.
I am guessing that whoever booked the band have seen them before? (but £50 ??? for 7 hours)
That is my assumption; as for the money. Looking back over the last 30+ years, if I did this for the money I'd be bankrupt! I'm assured that this will be a nice relaxed gig with like-minded folk wanting the band, so I'm viewing it is an evening out whereby I get paid for playing some songs with new acquaintances.
 10.
Pull the guitarist's volume knob off his amp, rotate it 90 degrees clockwise, then push it back on. He will now think he's playing louder than he really is and the volume will go back down!
Now that idea I like and may well try with a certain 6 stringer in my band!
 11.
Are the rest of the band only getting £50 for the wedding gig? Not being all diva-like but that's gonna be like 7+hrs work for that money.... Seems incredibly low for a wedding booking? Hope the money's being split evenly and youre not being diddled..?
If you knew the band you'd realise that the money is totally irrelevant, they just play what they want to play and enjoy it. We won't be doing any silly 'wedding sets', it's just their regular pub bluesey sets and the gig may even be for their mates anyway. I'm almost certain that it's a straight split between the 6 members with no hidden 'off-takes'. <edit> I should add that the singer has been to see my band on numerous occasions and even though I don't know any of the other guys, they are all straight up lads who just like playing in a band. It's defo more of me helping friends/fellow musicians out rather than a paid dep... as a matter of fact I have a strict policy with my band that I personally don't do weddings 'whatever the pay'!
 12.
Ha.. I've been there with the same band. Canny lads, they are...! I hate that Emotional Fish song. I'd never heard of it either. Rescue Blues is nice...
They are dead canny and easy going. Wish I'd known you'd done it previously, I'd have picked your brains.
 13.
How can you not know Cinnamon Girl? I'm sure you'd recognise it if you heard it! Most covers it's possible to learn the chord charts then do bits of improv, most cover band songs don't rely on the bass riff. Put in the time and it shouldn't be too hard. I've learned entire sets of originals for bands I've never even heard of before in 2-3 days (3 times in fact), just practice like mad.
Honestly, despite the fact I've played in bands for 31 years I've never encountered Cinnamon Girl... never been a great NY fan tbh! As I play a bit of guitar I'll be watching the guitars for some of the bridges etc but the main bass parts I can busk if I know the keys. I love the fact that they said the track 'Celebrate' by An Emotional Fish has a great bass intro... Turns out it's not exactly rocket science to play but it is a bit of a beggar when you just don't have any memory recall of how a song goes. Luckily any of the key changes are down a tone to another sensible key (A to G for instance) so I'm not in at the deep end with silly key changes. Oh well, back to practice.
 14. I was asked by a friend of a friend if I'd dep for his covers band as their bassist had dropped them in it for two gigs; a wedding do and a 50th birthday party... "Don't worry I've seen your band and you will already do or know the sets anyway" he says. Liar! Turns out that of the 24 songs that I have to do on Saturday, I'm familiar with 6 of the 24 (3 of those I've never ever tried to play but at least I can hum them). Problem is that several of the songs are just plain unknown to me; Don't worry baby - Los Lobos, Celebrate - An Emotional Fish (never even heard of the band), Rescue Blues - Ryan Adams, Cinnamon Girl - Neil Young + others I'll blag my way through this with the help of cheat sheets but the moral of the story; ensure you get the full run down on songs before you accept gigs for mates (especially at 'mates rates' gigs where you are going to get £50 for doing a wedding gig where you need to be at the venue from 4.30). Oh and I'm not whinging, just thought I'd share a recent experience.
 15.
You may as well just buy an RS210 if you want a small, fairly light and well priced cabinet. IMO.
... and a few other options! The short answer to the OP is; No.
 16.
Thanks for the offer but I will say no,standard corvettes go for around 4 to 450.Cheers

I was thinking, £100 - £150 ish on top!
I think that's what Mike was getting at!
 17.
I was thinking of having a punt on This but he describes it as a Custom shop which it doesn't seem to be and also as a Fullerton reissue. I thought Fullerton referred to the reissues made in the old Fullerton factory in the early 1980s? Yet he says in the text it's a 2002. Have I missed something or is it just an AV reissue
The seller seems to have pulled together every option he can! As you say it certainly doesn't appear to be a Custom Shop and I'm fairly sure those 'V' prefix basses were 90's RI basses which means it's wrong on the count of date and of it being a Fullerton... I also have some vague recollection of the V prefix being used on MIJ basses. However, this is all just from memory so someone with greater knowledge of Fenders or of the means of telling the various models apart may be able to give more detail (or to correct me). What I would say is that £1400 seems a bit steep for a RI
 18.
Brand new in packaging never used. A really nice flat wound string and the perfect partner to your P or J for classic tones. Retail for about £35 depending if you buy local or online. £27 posted to your door. Lovely stuff!
What brand of chrome flats? The obvious ones are D'Addario but various other manufacturers do chrome flats.
 19.
Trouble with that one is that if has a massive ding round the bottom strap button
Well the ebay bass sold for £625 (not a BIN but bid up to) so I'd agree that I'd rather pay the extra £45 to get one without a ding and in a better colour (IMHO) but the seller will clear about £540 by the time ebay and paypal fees come off... not a great price for a Stingray!
 20.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Musicman-Stingray-Ba...=item1c1cd90a09 Not a bad price, is it?
Well that's a nice 'starting' price but it doesn't have a BIN now as a bid is placed so I'd expect the bids to go up a bit from the current £499. There is a genuine Ray on here for £580 (£100 less than the ebay BIN) and it's sat around for ages, so Ray's aren't exactly achieving fantastic prices.
 21. I have the TC tuner and it is pretty good but you could probably get a tuner that does the basics for a lot less money... though I bet the TC lasts a lifetime whereas some cheaper ones may die after a few years gigging abuse. BTW I only ever use it as a bog standard chromatic tuner not trying to tune all strings at once, so a wasted feature for me.
 22. A bag for it...! I didn't know such a thing existed and what a waste of money. signed A bagless Gramma Pad user
 23. Let this thread run and every courier in the UK will get at least one slagging! Read the thread/sticky elsewhere on BC re. couriers and there are Pros and Cons for EVERY courier and I'm not aware of a single courier that does the job well and/or in the event of claims pays out without hassle; if there were we'd all use them and there'd never be another thread on BC re. couriers again. I've used UPS, ParcelForce, City Link, DHL and numerous others over the years and I have to say that for all I've had packages collected late (inconvenience) or some other irritation with the system, they have all arrived at their destination eventually and undamaged... yet I'm still looking for the ultimate courier who will; charge me minimal cost, collect on time, give me accurate tracking and deliver on time with the security that 'IF' it goes wrong they will sort it out promptly and pay me the full insured value.
 24.
I've only ever used Parcelforce to post guitars & have never had any problems at all. Booking over the phone with Parcelforce direct is always better than trying to do it at a post office. They don't "Mis-sell" insurance. If you can't be bothered to read up on the service, what they offer & what exclusions there are before using them then more fool you.
In part I agree with you, if you book on-line direct with PF and don't read the exclusions etc then that is your fault. However... if you hand over an item at the counter and tell them it is a bass guitar and they then sell you enhanced insurance then that is specifically mis sold; alternatively if you book through a 3rd party who then use PF (believe me it can happen and is sometimes cheaper), they don't tell you all of the exclusions for ALL of the couriers they use and I'd bet you'd have trouble in the event of a claim! I confess that I've sent basses via PF booked through Interparcel or Parcel2Go or some such on-line booking service and they have all arrived safe and sound (possibly more luck than judgement). I now use other couriers whom I am reasonably sure don't exclude guitars in their insurance.
