I think an amp bought new should be 'new', no debating that. However, it poses an odd dilemma which I've considered a few times... many folk on here wouldn't buy a new bass without trying it first, yet if a shop lets you try all of the various Fender Jazz basses that they have in stock, are those basses not now ex-demo? I'm not talking about something taken out of the box and checked over once by the staff but any new bass out on display is by definition ex-demo yet if you like THAT bass you may not be guaranteed that the bass in the stock room will be nearly as good; do you ask for a discount on the one that you prefer because it is on display? Does that make sense?
Is there any structural or functional purpose to a singlecut, or is it just a cosmetic thing? Jennifer
I believe the theory is that neck/body vibration transmission is enhanced... something like that any way!

These have literally never been used, the paper info hasn't even been taken off the grill and they would make an ideal little vocal PA or as a pair of monitors (shape means they can be tipped on the side and angled), any visible marks are just dust or cobwebs, no scuffs, dinks or chunks missing. 300w RMS (each), 16.5kg, Pole Mount, Speak-on connection. £120 +delivery

This was originally a 2x12 Tech combo with the head section removed (still has the built in space to put a 2U amp or rack effects), the 2nd 12" driver is on an angled baffle board as per the Schroeder cabs (iirc Tech predates the Schroeder). 300w with variable tweeter attenuator which gives different sounds as per the companies newer range (Tecamp... yes same company). Drivers are the original line and aren't showing any signs of being stressed. The cab fur is a bit ratty and there's one cigarette burn (which dates this cab back to before the smoking ban ) and I'm about to get the hot glue gun out and stick back down some of the covering that is starting to lift inside the rack space. It has an extendable speaker lead which is presently fitted with a Speak-on and this can extend to about .5m or more if you sit your amp on the top. I've been using the cab as a rehearsal cab but as I've just bought back my old H&K BC210 cab for that purpose, this is redundant. Dimensions; 54x40x48 Weight 27kg £195 (+delivery) ono

SKB 2U flightcase

This was/is used to house a 2x10 H&K bass cab (custom made for it), I'm likely keeping the cab but the flightcase makes the whole thing far too heavy. It is fully foam lined and the dimensions given are the external ones, I can measure the actual cab dimensions when I get back to work but it'll be after the Easter. Obviously it wouldn't take much to pad the interior out with more foam to protect your pride and joy. There are 4 big chunky butterfly clips closing it, all fully functional. It isn't mint condition but neither is it trashed. I'd be able to send it by courier but I'd not box it up, just send as is (£15 delivery). £30 collected / £45 delivered
Y'know, looking back through this thread, the haters can say what they like but the truth remains - IMO, these look bloody lovely.
I agree! It is very odd that the red basses have no channel cut to the neck pup but the sunburst does... am I reading that correct?
Sorry patpablo, but I'm not and cheers, badboy. I'm not really in any kind of rush to sell, but it's been put away safely for when someone does fancy it. Incidentally, the shop offered £900.
If the shop offered you £900 that's a cracking offer! -
I've seen stripped Fenders from a similar era with odd joins, but this looks like a factory natural finish...odd choice of join is odd. I'm not sure £1975 is the right price point either.
You only have to know a bit of previous history with the seller to realise that their take on value can be very different to that of (virtually) everyone else!
This one should be worth a fortune then.
I should have clarified '...of the basses that are made from multiple pieces of wood'.

This particular bass came up in another thread but on examination I thought it raised a serious question; was this a conscious effort to save wood or was the bass constructed on a Friday afternoon shift? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-1976-American...=item3a62daeec9 I have to say that the 70's must have been a rough period for Fender when they don't even joint the wood parallel with the neck. I realise that it shouldn't have any affect to the tone whether it is parallel or offset but every bass (copy or genuine) I've ever encountered in the past has been parallel jointed in roughly regular sections (2-5 pieces depending on manufacturer/period). I could understand if the lower piece was jointed so that the lower offset bout could be added without the need to waste wood but the bottom section actually carries over to the bottom lower horn!
Hmmmm ... struggling to agree with you on this one.
I concede that we should all be happy knowing that an instrument should be judged on its own merits and not on the perception of quality implied by a name on the headstock, however there is little harm (in my book) in a mocked up bitsa with a 'name' logo. I personally much prefer those jokey logos that are meant to look like Fender/Rickebacker etc. from a distance but when you get up close it is a complete mickey take. To clarify... it's one thing to stick a transfer on to please yourself with no intent, either now or in the future, to dupe or fool someone into thinking it is something that it is not BUT I completely agree that transfers applied to deliberately con or fool for gain or increase in perceived value is absolutely wrong! -
I don't see why the date makes it any more of a problem.
You just have to ask the question, 'WHY'? As has been pointed out; to graft on a tatoo of the Fender logo etc to make your copy (or even luthier made replica ) look like a Fender so that it fools the general public etc. is dubious practice but I've personally got no problem with that as I'm a tart when it comes to labels the same as the next guy. However... stamping a part of the instrument that will never be seen by Joe Public can only (IMHO) be a practice done to dupe someone either now or at a later date, it serves no other purpose WHAT-SO-EVER! I do have to say that the heel date stamping etc has been discussed on here before and iirc the bass in question was produced by a 'name' UK luthier, I stated then that the replication of markings not visible under normal useage was tantamount to blatant fraud and this neck is no different. -
I HATE it when people say 'Oh you play guitar'... No, I play bass, that is not the same thing! However, I can play guitar and can happily strum through songs and know plenty stuff to get away with at a Busker's Night or at a BBQ etc. just don't ask me to start getting widdly. I think it's really useful to know a bit of guitar (keys and drums as well if possible) and if you learn a little theory about how a chord is constructed and the various chords that go together in a particular key, then it's beneficial to my playing especially when asked to play songs that I'm not massively familiar with.

The classic one for this was the old TE amps; EVERYTHING happened in the first 1/4 - 1/3 of the output dial.
