We won't be doing any silly 'wedding sets', it's just their regular pub bluesey sets and the gig may even be for their mates anyway. I'm almost certain that it's a straight split between the 6 members with no hidden 'off-takes'. <edit> I should add that the singer has been to see my band on numerous occasions and even though I don't know any of the other guys, they are all straight up lads who just like playing in a band. It's defo more of me helping friends/fellow musicians out rather than a paid dep... as a matter of fact I have a strict policy with my band that I personally don't do weddings 'whatever the pay'!

As I play a bit of guitar I'll be watching the guitars for some of the bridges etc but the main bass parts I can busk if I know the keys. I love the fact that they said the track 'Celebrate' by An Emotional Fish has a great bass intro... Turns out it's not exactly rocket science to play but it is a bit of a beggar when you just don't have any memory recall of how a song goes. Luckily any of the key changes are down a tone to another sensible key (A to G for instance) so I'm not in at the deep end with silly key changes. Oh well, back to practice.

I was asked by a friend of a friend if I'd dep for his covers band as their bassist had dropped them in it for two gigs; a wedding do and a 50th birthday party... "Don't worry I've seen your band and you will already do or know the sets anyway" he says. Liar! Turns out that of the 24 songs that I have to do on Saturday, I'm familiar with 6 of the 24 (3 of those I've never ever tried to play but at least I can hum them). Problem is that several of the songs are just plain unknown to me; Don't worry baby - Los Lobos, Celebrate - An Emotional Fish (never even heard of the band), Rescue Blues - Ryan Adams, Cinnamon Girl - Neil Young + others I'll blag my way through this with the help of cheat sheets but the moral of the story; ensure you get the full run down on songs before you accept gigs for mates (especially at 'mates rates' gigs where you are going to get £50 for doing a wedding gig where you need to be at the venue from 4.30). Oh and I'm not whinging, just thought I'd share a recent experience.

As you say it certainly doesn't appear to be a Custom Shop and I'm fairly sure those 'V' prefix basses were 90's RI basses which means it's wrong on the count of date and of it being a Fullerton... I also have some vague recollection of the V prefix being used on MIJ basses. However, this is all just from memory so someone with greater knowledge of Fenders or of the means of telling the various models apart may be able to give more detail (or to correct me). What I would say is that £1400 seems a bit steep for a RI

There is a genuine Ray on here for £580 (£100 less than the ebay BIN) and it's sat around for ages, so Ray's aren't exactly achieving fantastic prices.

I have the TC tuner and it is pretty good but you could probably get a tuner that does the basics for a lot less money... though I bet the TC lasts a lifetime whereas some cheaper ones may die after a few years gigging abuse. BTW I only ever use it as a bog standard chromatic tuner not trying to tune all strings at once, so a wasted feature for me.

Let this thread run and every courier in the UK will get at least one slagging! Read the thread/sticky elsewhere on BC re. couriers and there are Pros and Cons for EVERY courier and I'm not aware of a single courier that does the job well and/or in the event of claims pays out without hassle; if there were we'd all use them and there'd never be another thread on BC re. couriers again. I've used UPS, ParcelForce, City Link, DHL and numerous others over the years and I have to say that for all I've had packages collected late (inconvenience) or some other irritation with the system, they have all arrived at their destination eventually and undamaged... yet I'm still looking for the ultimate courier who will; charge me minimal cost, collect on time, give me accurate tracking and deliver on time with the security that 'IF' it goes wrong they will sort it out promptly and pay me the full insured value.

However... if you hand over an item at the counter and tell them it is a bass guitar and they then sell you enhanced insurance then that is specifically mis sold; alternatively if you book through a 3rd party who then use PF (believe me it can happen and is sometimes cheaper), they don't tell you all of the exclusions for ALL of the couriers they use and I'd bet you'd have trouble in the event of a claim! I confess that I've sent basses via PF booked through Interparcel or Parcel2Go or some such on-line booking service and they have all arrived safe and sound (possibly more luck than judgement). I now use other couriers whom I am reasonably sure don't exclude guitars in their insurance.

Cheers, louisthebass[/quote] I can only speak for my Bolin (which has a strap button extension on the top bout so isn't a likely fair assessment of all SCs) but it has perfect balance. Oddly enough I can switch between my Bolin, Sterling or Warwicks and the last thing that I consider is whether the bass is a SC or DC... they are just 'basses'!

I have a sneaking suspicion the seller has used info skimmed from one of my threads on the Warwick forum (maybe even a forum registered user) as the bumpf he has written about it being the 5th anniversary bass is b*llocks! HOWEVER, it is very reminiscent of stuff that was posted on one of my threads about various Ltd Ed Warwick basses 'including' a completely different 5th Anniversary bass.

Well I know for a fact I didn't sell the bass to the ebay seller and one of the images of the bass that he has used is MINE! I did sell my bass a few years ago to BCer, Gremlinandy and I'm fairly certain that he hasn't sold it; though I've PMd him to check if he sold it I thought I'd put this up as it might be better to be safe than sorry. If you look at the images that the seller has used you will also note that the front facings of the images are of different basses. So he's pulled images from listings or forum pics of at least two of these basses... I'd be very wary!
