Yeah... I'm just concerned about being in a situation where by if I don't have a compressor my rig isn't safe to use. I want to plug in and play like anyone else. Hmmmm
Honestly it's not a big issue! I play in a 6 piece band with a loud drummer doing Springsteen, Skynyrd etc and I've no probs taking either the 2x10 or my Aggie 1x12's (though I almost always gig these as a pair, I'd not be worried about using one... I just like to feel the air moving with two ) and my 550w amp and that's from almost 30 yrs of gigging experience.
Quick one for guys with more technical knowledge. I'm in a situation where it seems I will soon have a Euphonic Audio 550 Micro. The can I need it to work with is my EA Wizzy 10 which I used to use my MarkBass Littlemark 250. The Wizzy is 250w at 4ohms, the Micro is 550w at 4 ohm (oddly the lowest wattage amp they now make). Usually I would think this was destined to blow the speaker to bits... Bi it seems odd that the lowest powered amp they make is too hot for a cab that sell loads of!! So I asked the guys at EA. I was told it was pretty safe to use as long as the amp didn't peak... In fact I was told it would be safer than say, using a 300w amp as the 550w head would have more headro before peaking and only peaking over the cabs wattage would damage it. Is this all true? Does that mean a 1000w amp is safe to use with a 100w speaker as long as the amp doesn't peak!? Surely not Shep
It's a mine field when you start talking of power ratings and a MAHOOSIVE can of worms is opened when you start discussing under/overpowering speakers but it is safe to say that a 500w amp will not by simple fact of being plugged into a 250w cab cause drivers to blow! I've ran speakers of less than 250w with 1000w pre/power combos and I've never blown a driver; in fact I'm busy using my 550w Thunderfunk with a H&K 250w 2x10 cab and I'm getting some seriously nice sounds and I'm not worried in the slightest with blowing anything up... just use a bit of common sense and your ears. If the cab is complaining then turn the amp down a bit or roll off a bit of the low end.

The double-cut short top horn style of the bass would lend me to think it may be a bit unbalanced but as I've not tried one it'd be just supposition!

£670 is a snip! Watch these earlier basses rocket in value in 10-15yrs... if you can hold on to your Warwicks that long.

No new holes required with stacked pots. However be sure to try a few pre pedals as suggested because some inboard pres can be pricey (you don't want to know the cost of a new MEC unit), in fact I'd be tempted to leave it in passive and run it through a pedal (Aguilar, Sadowsky etc) then you can use it with the passive P or whatever bass you like.
9.1v under load, it's not that new a battery mind so may try another one. (writing the date on batteries when you put them in- genius idea) Any idea what's in the preamp box? or if it's openable? or what type of caps are in there???
From the date of your bass, the preamp will likely be an epoxy sealed MEC unit; absolutely NO chance of tinkering with it! Open up the cover and check, it'll take seconds.

When someone knows enough to be quoting 'Tadeo Gomez' yet still prices at £3k, I smell a rat!

Defo sounds like something odd is happening as the active tone should be like the passive tone but on steroids! Not to everyone's taste but I can't bear to run active basses in passive mode and certainly never any of my Warwicks. You do have a fresh, good quality battery in don't you (a battery reading 9v when 'tested' does not necessarily mean that it is giving out 9v under load)? It isn't beyond the realms of possibility that the preamp is fried as I've heard occasional stories of folks doing all sorts of strange things to active circuits to get more out of them (putting 18v through dedicated 9v circuits etc).

Defo a 1... or should that be 34! Top bloke who's not half as scary as his avatar, though the mohican is a bit sus! Drove half way to meet me when purchasing his Sterling and the bass was exactly as described, cheers Perry.
80 watt @ 16ohms (making it 160 watt @ 8ohms right? or wrong?) 1x15" ext. is 250 watts @ 8 Ohms 300 watt head running a 410 watts cab (@ 4ohms) 250 watts the peak or rms 1x12 250 watt 8ohm
It's all a load of b0ll0cks! Seriously not wishing to undermine/berate you but all of the figures quoted by the manufacturers are PANTS! The only figure remotely applicable is the ohmage of the cab (and for the sake of arguments we have to concede that the ohmage given is correct even though that is debatable). You can guesstimate that you are getting about 200-250w out of your combo without an extension cab but you then need to ask yourself does that sound loud/clear enough... if it doesn't, then another ext cab (8 ohm) with preferably the same size drivers (10's) will give you a perceived greater volume (though 50-100w is a negligible amount to hear the difference). Ideally to get a bigger/louder sound from your combo, you want an ext cab that is more sensitive (higher db rating at 1w 1m) as opposed to a cab that has the max number of watts attributed to it's name. I realise that this seriously is unlikely to make much sense to you but if you read some of the stickies it will help you.
yes you of all people! so does that make the bass light, medium or heavy in your view?
Anything around the 9lb I'd call medium BUT I'm well aware that some folk would say that 9lb is light; it's all about what you are used to and your perception. My Bolin clocks in @ 8lb 4oz and I'd say that was lightweight. However, my Streamer 5th Anniversary is 7lb 12oz... featherweight I'd guess!

Courier points system and courier issues
warwickhunt replied to paul, the's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Holla folks, just a quick question - I've ordered a replacement Allparts neck for my Jazz, which has been shipped from the States via USPS. According to the info supplied through the USPS tracking service, the neck arrived in the UK on the 7th April, and is currently sitting in Customs. Does anyone have any idea how long these things can usually take to work their way through, or is it a 'piece of string' question? Just getting a tad impatient and wanting to set to work on my first project bass.
When they've processed it you'll get a letter, a week to 10 days perhaps BUT if you know that Royal Mail/Parcelforce are processing it as opposed to C&E then a phone-call giving them the tracking number can mean that you pay taxes over the phone with a card and the parcel gets to you a lot quicker than waiting for them to contact you. However, this all depends on how/who is processing but I'm fairly sure that USPS means that ParcelForce/Royal Mail will be holding it until taxes/duty is paid; as opposed to a couple other options whereby the courier handles it from collection to delivery and you pay them after the parcel is delivered. -
Perhaps you could elaborate
Some details here... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=36625 Apothem - I've used Interparcel in the past with no problems BUT I do seem to recall that 'their' T&C preclude musical instruments through UPS may not and your contract is with Interparcel. Worth checking as I may be wrong.
Parcelforce will charge you £25 to a uk address fully insured
No it isn't! Read the small print, even if you take out extra insurance (and they will take your premium) it isn't insured!
Just had a shifty looking transaction with Warwickhunt in a sercive station car park where gear and money changed hands. No BS from this fella. Echoing whats said here the man is a scholar and a gentleman and hope he enjoys his new bass!
Cheers Perry. I've got to say that Perry isn't half as scary as his avatar makes him out to be!

Vintage Sunburst finish Maple 1/4 sawn neck Maple fingerboard with pearloid dot markers x2 PRS Jazz Pick-ups Vol/Vol/Tone Active/Passive PRS circuit (switchable) Original PRS case with tools, hang tags and even cloth Very good condition with very little surface 'swirling' where you would slap/pop. No dings, cracks, scratches or bucklerash (though if you tip it in the light you can see a little 'worming', though not visible otherwise). No fretwear and action is presently set 'low' (normal by my standards but other bassists that have played it have thought it was too low for them ) but if you play with a heavier hand I'll set it up with a bit more relief if you like. The case has a couple of very small marks/nicks but they are not tears and it looks very good from a short distance (I'm just giving potential buyers all info). Neck width @ nut is 40mm. I'll also obviously supply the straplock buttons to attach to your strap. Please feel free to contact me if you would like a particular aspect photographed and I'll get them to you. Collection from near Newcastle Upon Tyne or courier at your expense. £1000
I've heard similar things from another guy who owned a Streamer Stage 1. Must be a duff model generally...
A sweeping generalisation! I find the Streamer Stage I to be a fabulous bass and having owned a pair of SSII (among a multitude of other NT Warwick) I'd still personally take a SSI.
