1. Just out of interest what do other studios use? I can't ever recall going into a studio and finding an 8x10 stashed in a cupboard, it's often a case of what the band has or something of decent quality in 2x10/2x12/1x15 format! I'd have thought there are a good few cabs out there as good/better than the archaic design of the Ampeg 8x10.
 2. Got to say mate I was looking at your original post and about to PM you, then I read your response to what seemed an innocent bit of advise! We all 'read' things in different ways and you may well have misinterpreted the suggestion of posting pics differently to I, just as others (and myself) may have misunderstood your response! How about taking a step back, putting some pics up... oh and getting me an accurate weight!
 3.
My sound gear has always been as flat in tone as they come and after slobbering over both the Streamer and thumb for months I'm torn between the pair. Its not the sort of buy I'm looking to do twice so I'm asking your advice on what do you think is the more versatile instrument, what will hold its value better between the two, and whats the up keeping of both instruments like, how often does the wood need treating... Fingers crossed someone will have handled them both, and will have the answers for me.
They are very different instruments in look and tone so I think if you try each of them your decision will be very easy to make. I've owned (cough) 'several of each' and I'd take the Streamer every time; IMHO it is more comfortable and versatile. As for upkeep and waxing - honestly don't worry about it! Regardless of the fact that they are natural and require waxing I don't believe that they need any more care than a lacquered bass. You wipe down a lacquered bass every once in a while, that's all you do with the Warwicks only you apply a little wax when you do it. I've got/had basses that I've waxed maybe once a year with the occasional rub with a duster every now and again and some of my basses were with me for 15-20 years with no ill effect, so long as you aren't living in a Country with high humidity or silly extremes. A tin of wax lasted me 10 years + and I owned 19 Warwick basses at the time... not a big deal honest!
 4.
A "damn I hate being poor" bump. If I had the cash...
So sell the PJ!
 5.
Bugger. I knew i shouldn't have clicked on this thread. Ive been thinking of downsizing my MB SA450 9yeah, really) and have been tempted by the few TC 4500 Classics that have been turning up on here, but after seeing this, and hearing the clips WoT has kindly uploaded im now 99% sure ill get a 600 sooner rather than later. I was going to get a new bass but i think after 4 years with the SA450 im ready for amp GAS. The 600 will be more than loud enough and the price seems pretty good compared to the other small heads around at the moment. Anyone care to comment how these sound compared to the MB heads?
I had the SA450 and after trying WoT's Streamliner I'd say they would justify you looking at the GB.
 6.
This is too funny! See what I just posted in the Bass Guitars section. I want a Warwick again, and thinking of selling my red Jazz. I really miss my old Corvette $$.
I've two Warwick's for sale... NT Streamers though (and one is a fretless )!
 7.
Yeah I'd like to know too. I don't sell on ebay, do you have to select it or de-select it as an option?
It's automatic on most sales. One positive is that it stops toe-rags from contacting bidders who are bidding on your items and offering to sell them identical items at reduced/lower prices or items available off ebay.
 8.
I had considered it! Either that or maybe ordering a new bass from Bogart, or trying to source a Clover Slapper or a Schack with a graphite neck (like trying to find a clean sheet in a nursing home).
I had a Schack headless, nice bass but the EQ had almost 'too' many variables (certain combinations of those internal DIP switches could generate some nasty sounds).
 9. I do think that the question of weight is a more than valid request! Manufacturers give 'guesstimations' on weights of basses but there is a massive tolerance for actual instruments; I've owned basses such as a pair of Lakland DJ basses and they varied from 4.5kg to 5.7kg. That's quite a difference if you are getting on in years and/or do long sets regularly... and don't even start on the variance in old fender basses!
 10.
By the way, if anyone wants to sell anything with a bit of graphite in it (or a headless bass), please let me know!
A Zon Sonus?
 11.
It looks really cool...
I was using the combo version of this when I was with our old band... weighed as much as a small car but it was bliddy good!
 12.
That's an interesting point about the leads I did it the other way around. I picked up a speaker lead and played my guitar through my AC15.... It sounded awful. I was all for taking the amp to a repairer! Leads make all the difference
Hand on heart the sound/volume when I first tried it was WOEFUL and I had genuinely budgeted to have the amp repaired when I bought it but inspection of the cable he supplied just rang major alarm bells and it was the simplest fix... EVER. I did have a pang of conscience and I've sent him a cheque for another £30, churlish not to!
 13.
RED ALERT
...THINKING! I genuinely thought that it'd be like meeting up with an old girlfriend and she wasn't quite as nice/good as you remembered but it brought back all of the good things that I remembered of the 250 combos. Considering I'm only getting about 170-180w into the 8ohm load I'm seriously thinking that I'd have enough power to compete with the guitards and then DI for FOH. We'll see what happens when I try it with the band.
 14.
As the owner of your other BassBase 250 head I can definitely say that you're not getting it back!! Coupled with a pair of BFM 10.5s it's lovely even if it looks a bit Heath Robinson in a homemade sleeve.
Honestly mate, I've not stopped playing with this since I got it back and if it can make a loud enough noise with my band (enough for me to monitor on-stage), I'm thinking of selling my Thunderfunk and pair of Aggies!
 15. I'd look at used gear on BC, obviously you'll get a lot more for your money than new and you don't take a great hit in depreciation if you further upgrade. It is a shameless plug but I may well have a Tech Soundsystems 2x12 cab for sale. It's actually the cab section of a combo without the amp in so you can fit a 2U amp into the inbuilt rack section at the top. In design it is the same as the Schroeder cabs (Tech did it before Schroeder I believe), where one of the 12's is on an angled baffle so that it looks like a 1x12 from the front. If you are interested (it'd leave you £300 to buy an amp) give me a shout and I'll get pics.
 16.
Interesting rig! Never seen one before, despite having had several H & K guitar amps which I really liked. The old H & K stuff from when it was all made in Germany was great, extrememly well made and very clean sounding in a positive way.
The bassbase 250 (combo and amp) along with the first series of BC cabs were H&K's first foray into the bass market, closely followed by the bassbase 400/600 amps. As you say the early German made gear was real pro quality stuff and had a fair old retail tag to match and I loved the nice fat but clean tone... I liked them a lot!
 17. Switchcraft ones are the muts nuts though the Neutrik should be good... just don't skimp and buy a cheapie!
 18.
i have a baggage weighing thing, but it doesn't take too well to guitars!! However, altho the weight changed a little each time, it averages at approx 3kg - sorry can't be dead accurate but I did do it two or three times and it hovered first around 2.97 then 3.06 etc..you get the picture..
Thanks for taking the time to try and get the weight but I've got to confess that even taking your heaviest weight makes that a pretty light bass! I'd certainly be interested but due to past experiences of folks exagerating claims of basses being significantly lighter than they actually are I'd need to be sure that your bass was as light as you say; especially as I couldn't try before buying.
 19. Do you have an accurate weight (before you ask... dodgy shoulder)?
 20.
H&K gear is awesome. If they decided to bring out lightweight gear I would be very tempted. In saying that,,,,,god knows what kinda price they would be
I know what you mean!
Looks nice and tidy. 2x12..?
2x10... but thinks it's bigger than it is!
My first loud amp was a Bassbase 600 head. In hindsight, it was one the best amps I've owned in terms of useful features, volume and build quality.
I've had the BassBase 250, 400 + 600 and the 600 was awesome.
 21. As I was under the illusion that 250w was insufficient power I sold this amp and cab about 5 years ago to a local lad that I'd known from many moons ago. Long story short; I've been thinking of keeping a practice rig at our rehearsal space so I've been watching here, ebay etc. and up pops this. Contacted the guy who hadn't used it in anger since buying it and so I went to get it back. I went to try the rig and it was pathetic. I had input and output gains on full and it wasn't even as loud as your car stereo (assuming you aren't driving a 'beatbox' Saxo). I tried various tricks and came to the conclusion that worst case scenario the amp might need a service/fix but the cab appeared to be as good as when I'd flightcased it. A word of warning... don't use instrument cable for speaker lead! As soon as I got it home I realised that the speaker lead that he gave me was an instrument patch lead, replaced with a proper lead and hey presto! Welcome home old friend.
 22. Is the finish by Dave 'Banger' Wilson?
 23. Is the E string significantly inboard compared to the G or does one/both run out a bit?
 24. My most recent project are seasoned musicians (read as 'old') doing covers and we've all done the pub circuit for some time. It comes as a very pleasant surprise to find that we can and do actually pull in a crowd. In fact mid/late January we did a pub gig which by the end of the evening had been so packed that the landlord professed that they were his greatest takings since taking over the pub 3 years ago (and they have bands on every week); he even went on to say that he'd taken more on the night that we played than he had taken on New Years Eve and New Years Day combined! Not bad considering there were at least two other pubs putting on bands within a mile radius and one of those bands is very highly regarded in the area!
