1. Pah! Looks nothing like a Thunderfunk... Somebody got a cracking amp.
2. Re. the piezo - When you say a bit weaker on the E string, how bad are you talking and is it a case of requiring a replacement piezo?
3.
Calling Warickhunt
I know but it is blue! It shouldn't matter but I can't get away with blue basses (possible exception being a very pale blue) otherwise I'd have been onto it.
4.
I love that bass, the woods are awesome and the fish inlays are superb! If they would do those inlays one of their amber flamed maple basses...
Yes! Now you are talking my ultimate bass though I'd be inclined to specify Quilt Maple.
5. 'Probably' the only bass that I'd go out on a limb for!
6. I smell a scam or at best a chancer who's changed his mind! Can you clarify if the guitar was an ebay/paypal sale because if it was then that's a whole different kettle of fish! 'IF' it is an eBay/paypal sale I think that the expectation would be that you would be required to refund once you have the guitar back BUT I am aware that my sister sold something (value £30) on eBay and the buyer claimed it was lost in the post so despite my sis offering a refund as soon as she heard back from RM, paypal refunded the buyer regardless! If paypal are involved I'd be ensuring that they are aware that the buyer is now in another country. Saying all of that, if it isn't ebay/paypal I'd be sitting pretty waiting for the LP to be returned first and there's nothing the guy can do to force you to do otherwise!
7.
which he bought the other week for £195
I'm further puzzled or I might be a bit dumb this morning; how does this account link to the guy who bought the BB1000?
8. On the back of the headstock; is that some kind of sustain block or 'fathead' style weight to eliminate deadspots?
9. Just out of interest, how do you know it is the same guy? Admittedly 2 BB1000 basses coming up for sale in almost identical condition with cases and leaflet would be unusual but there doesn't appear to be a direct link... I'm not defending the seller, simply wondering what other grounds there are for doubt!
10. Quite close to me (12 miles or so away) and though I've not used him, he does seem to have a fair reputation among the locals.
11. I have to say that I've found Black Widow speakers to be fantastically reliable... I know that may seem odd as you have a blown driver but I used a pair of 350w BW Hi-SysII PA cabs for 15 years and we put the whole band through those (bass drum et al) and we used power amps from 1000w-2200w and we never ever had a problem with them. In fact they DJ who bought them from me was just saying the other day that they are still going strong after 18 years and the best sounding drivers that he has! Oh and I am not sponsored by Peavey nor do I presently use them but I have had various Peavey cabs over the years and for the price they are hard to beat.
12.
Too bleedin' expensive
Good point! The Peavey drivers have replaceable baskets so if it's just that then it could be a simple fix. Just out of interest what is the cost difference between buying the Peavey & Eminence?
13. Just out of interest why aren't you just fitting another BW?
14.
Not enough to be concerned with, because for the most part watts are moot. What does limit output is driver displacement. Going from a total of eight tens to two reduces displacement by 75%, which combined with the 75% reduction in power handling reduces maximum potential output by 12dB. In simple terms a 2x10 will sound somewhat less than half as loud as two 4x10s. You're probably best off going to a pair of 2x10s , that way you can use the one if the gig is small enough to get away with it, both when it isn't.
To add to that I'd recommend sticking with the Peavey brand and finding a 2nd 2x10 to go with the one that you are likely to get. Stacked on their side/end you'll find that they will do a more than commendable job in a live situation.
15. Same as your other eBay linked basses for sale... I would imagine that unless you are going to put a purchase price on your bass then this is going to be moved to the eBay section of the forum like the others!

18.
Absolutely. I agree that sometimes a busked tune can be great, indeed there is a special place in my heart for such events. However, in my experience, there is a danger of the odd success such as that mentioned above leading to the busking approach being elevated to a point that it doesn't really deserve most of the time. I know a lot of musicians who have fallen into this trap; they dismiss rehearsal/practice as not necessary, and think they are being creative, but in reality the resulting music is frequently shabby. Jennifer
Agreed.
19.
+1 When you're playing different bass lines you're not being creative, you're just playing different bass lines!
"Creativity is a mental process involving the discovery of new ideas or concepts, or new associations of the existing ideas or concepts, fueled by the process of either conscious or unconscious insight" Surely by the definition that you are playing something different or creating something slightly different you are being creative! Your choice of notes, timbre, tempo, dynamic etc. are part of the creative process. I feel it is sad when people dumb down people who get creative enjoyment or stimulation from adapting/altering what is already written; why should it only be the prerogative of those who generate something from nothing (if there is such a thing) to claim to be 'creative'? Just saying.
20.
I stumbled on this thread by chance and i'm really interested. As I have a Roland cb100 combo I have been thinking of using an extra external speaker cab, but I too am confused about ohms, the Roland manual says use a cab with a maximum of 8 ohms, but does not specify whether a 4 or 8 ohm external cab would be better in this set up. How do you find out which to use? Also would adding a 2 x 12 or 1 x 15 external cab of the correct ohmage? produce a louder sound or just a sound with more umph? Any help/advice greatly appreciated, thanks, Nick.
When the manual says 'max 8ohms' Nick, I'd be fairly confident in saying that means use an 8 or 16ohm cab (or any cab between 8-16... or even over 16 but any of the afore mentioned cabs will be pretty rare) NOT a 4ohm cab. As to whether you should add a 2x12, 1x15, 2x10, 4x10 etc. that is down to personal preference but all should give you a (little) more volume as I'd have thought your combo will produce the 100w at 4ohms (your 8ohm internal speaker and the 8ohm ext cab giving the 4ohm load). You won't be talking a massive amount of wattage increase, maybe 25w more than the 75w you'd be getting without the ext cab BUT the extra speaker drivers will make it appear louder with a bit more Umph. Just don't expect to suddenly be knocking down walls when you get the extra cab!
21. The sad thing is that he CAN play bass (OK note choice, number of notes and timing is a little out in places but when the red light goes on I'm sure we might all find ourselves guilty of the odd blunder) but he's coming across all showmanship/flash and lacking in any substance to his playing! I'd not be surprised to learn that he is also a guitar player... and yes I consider the bass and the guitar separate instruments BUT accept that you can be proficient in both. However, I feel that where guitarists don't make good bassists is in the way that this guy is approaching it, does he not understand that there are likely to be other instruments in the band playing along with him? I've a feeling if this guy turned up for an audition with my band he'd be shown the door pretty sharpish!
22.
I enjoyed your post 4-string-thing, in my experience there is a big difference in the quality of the end result from someone who has really learned a piece versus and someone who is "busking" their way through it. I disagree that the audience do not notice the difference though; when everything is "right", the music is taken to another level that you will rarely, if ever reach when busking parts. In saying that, with the best will in the world there is not always time to learn songs note perfect. Jennifer
You would agree though that there is the exception when a band is busking or trying something in the early stages of learning/writing a song where things can just 'happen'! I've had many occasions when I've played something with a band (or other musicians in some form of impromptu jam/busk) and the fact that everyone is bringing something different to the mix (both a known cover or a basic chord progression/structure) just fires off some creativity and you reach greater heights than you would with a song that is refined and/or rehearsed to death! I love it when that happens in front of a live audience. A classic example is that my present band have been together about a year and some of our finest moments have been when we are just running through new covers and we are all flexing to see where the song will go (we do covers pretty close to the originals but they can and do go where the moment takes us). Some of the ideas we 'busk' out stay in the song and to get to my point; often songs that end up very polished don't inspire me as much as those early busked sessions. I'm not disagreeing that some/many busked sessions can lead to nowhere and aren't as good from an audience perspective as a well rehearsed number but I believe that those people who are genuinely into music can enjoy it when a band are firing on all cylinders with ideas bouncing off each other in a 'busked' manner... Does that make sense?
23. 24. Sadly yet another musician has passed away today; Y&T's bassist, Phil Kennemore finally died as a result of cancer. Saw him with Y&T many moons ago and it's sad to see yet another musician die, especially so soon after MK & GR. Condolences to his family.
