2.
The eventual winner was "pushed on" by a 1 feedback bidder
Dismissing the 'potential' shill bidder it'd still be £700 which (IMHO) just before Christmas is less than I think it'd have made mid-Summer... a lot more than I'd be wanting to pay but that's the thing about 'Supply and Demand'!
 3.
I'm talking in frequency bands though. Ported or sealed, I don't think there is much difference below 200hz (unless the sealed is seriously tiny and already rolling off by then). The cab material stuff, with flexing and suchlike is when it is acting as a pressure device, so is losing energy where that matters, which is low, but the stuff above that, aside from the out of phase reflection from a smooth surface, are down to the speakers own properties. This is what I am trying to confirm, with someone who actually knows. Maybe rephrase; 'what about a speaker enclosure affects the frequency response above 200hz, aside from internal reflections that are avoidable through lining?'.
I see what you mean but surely the effect that a cab has on what you are hearing is inextricably linked to all of the factors and that must surely include those below 200hz (BTW I've no qualification in acoustics so I have no idea if the 200hz you quoted is an accurate figure ) However, (just thinking out loud) before we get embroiled in the effect of cab design on the tone of a given speaker... going back to the question of the difference between a 10" and a 12" speaker. Surely there are far too many variables between speaker manufacturers products to even worry about the affect on the 'low end' of extraneous factors such as cabs and their design. Not all 12" speakers are able to accurately reproduce a given sound never mind a 10" v 12" debate. Yes/No?
 4.
Can one of the experts confirm/disprove this?: the effect of the design of the box generally (unles you get horn loaded and suchlike) mostly affects 200hz and below, the mids are affected to an extend by the lining of the box and how reflective it is, but most of the upper stuff is down to the speaker's own properties. Which is why guitar speakers have their own sound since that low stuff isn't very relevant, but a bass cabinet is down to the box design relating to the speakers.
Not sure what you mean! You've asked if it be confirmed/disproved that design of a cab affects the sound but then you've gone on to say that the design generally affects frequencies below 200hz, that the mids may be affected by lining materials and finally "a bass cabinet is down to the box design relating to the speakers"... surely all of those things are exactly what is being discussed or am I misunderstanding something? Aside from what you've confirmed can/does affect the sound coming from a speaker that is housed in an enclosure, all you've got to do is consider what happens if you take the same driver and fit it into a completely different enclosure. Even the materials that the cab is made from affect the sound, added to which if you don't brace a cab effectively that alters the tone; I'd think that design of a cab and its affect on tone would be apparent by comparing a ported and a sealed enclosure.
 5.
I used an 800RB with a 1153 for years - that was when I was happy with my gear before the days of Talkbs and Basschat poisoned my mind
I had the 800rb + 1153 and 2103 (the early vinyl covered models with the 10's and the 5's), nice little rig which I'd not turn my nose up at even now.
 6.
I'm thinking Gretsch but would like a second opinion.
I'd thought some kind of hollowbody and his thumb seems to be hovering over an 'F' hole; it seems to have a cream pup surround a bit like the Gretsche or Epiphone Cassidy bass. It looks like a knurled upper strap button which should give it away to someone in the know. I'm going to agree with you though Howie. Oh and yes a lush track (regardless of the Carpenters comparisons) with a nice tone to the bass... even if it isn't the bass in the video!
 7.
OK, what's the bass at 0.45?
Do you know or are 'you' stumped?
 8.
I was a bit dubious over doing it as I thought it might end up enbalancing the pick ups and ultimately wrecking my bass in some way.
You'd not wreck your bass but you might have a discrepancy in output and/or tone between the pups, which tbh might not necessarily be in a negative way. Loads of people chuck different pups into basses and give no thought to anything other than is it active/passive; Billy Sheehan famously had a Gibson mudbucker fitted into his Precision (our very own 'the bass doc' had one fitted in a bass way before I heard of BS) with interesting results but it makes more sense to the the pair matched.
 9. Just an opinion but I'd not mismatch the pups (ie one Bart one Tobias) if you can help it as it can give unpredictable results. IMHO you'd be better off going for the pair of pups then replace the preamp OR replace the preamp and then replace the pups as a pair at a later date.
 10.
and repeat ad infinitum till it goes. well we will see, i might do that, i would take an offer around there, its getting so close to christmas im going to use it at the carol service tonight and then withdraw it from sale and think about it again in the new year. nothing wrong with the thing, and i like it, and the too much power thing has been solved by the new cab. so its just size and wieght and living on the 3rd floor. we shall see! but going to a shop with it is a no no this tread has shown me
It might seem obvious but I have you considered a straight swap on BC for something smaller? There may be someone after an amp with a bit more clout (which the QT certainly has) who has something that might suit you... just a thought.
 11.
I'm only going on my (small amount of) common sense, But 12" speakers have more low end than 10" speakers? (in regards to 2 or 4 of them) Or is it just more mids? (which is what i have been told) THANK YOU in advance
12" speakers to not in themselves have more low (mid/top) than 10" speakers... in fact some 12" speakers don't have as much low (mid/top) as some other 12" speakers! Aside from the spec of the actual speakers/drivers you have to factor in the design of the cabinet that they are fitted into. There is no universal law that the larger the speaker the more bottom end you get from it as there are a multitude of other factors to consider and unfortunately 'common sense' doesn't enter into the equation. Drawing from personal experience, I've owned 2x10 cabs that produce as much bottom end as 2x15 cabs and on numerous occasions over the last couple of years I've been in close confines of a massive array of cabs with all sorts of driver sizes that have reinforced that you can't make assumptions based on driver size; thinking in particular of an old 2x15 cab (no horn or tweeter) with (IIRC) EV drivers that reproduced more top end than any 2/4/8 x10 I've ever heard! <edit> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QTRhgg1FEs In NO WAY scientific but this was a little gtt with 5" 10" 12" speakers involved. It doesn't serve as any way of demonstrating the merits of one speaker against another (especially as the sound is from a little digital camera on video mode and there is a different amp being used in each case; all be it with EQ flat) but standing in the room doing that little clip, you wouldn't say that the PJB 'lacked' low end or that the 4x10 had more top and the x2 1x12 had more mids etc.
 12.
i spent the morning looking for info about my amp, theres not much out there but I'm leaning towards keeping the thing rather than give it away at a daftly low price. i think it will fit in my big rucksack
it's always the case that for ANY piece of equipment, there is a buyer out there... at the right price. Ultimately you will have a price at which you will not let it go, if nobody is prepared to pay above that price threshold then it stays with you. If you aren't as yet at that price then it's worth knocking another £20-£25 off and seeing what happens.
 13.
which did you prefer the H&K or markbass stuff? given that it'sall been sold now ??
No competition; H&K
 14.
think you attatched the wrong picture there! I think you meant to add the one of the 30 warwicks on your wall and sofa! oh and markbass sa450... and whats the other yellowy one?
Now come on this isn't a Warwick thread! The other yellow one is the Markbass LMK. I had the SA450 driving one EBS and the LMK driving the other (each cab was 4ohms), I tried having one cab clean and the other effected (chorus/octave/phaser or combination of)... as I say it got silly!
 15.
Always been a massive fan of the body shape (if not the headstock design) - an extremely refined and elegant take on the LP. The craft work looks superb too
There are a few subtle design merits that are not apparent from any of the pics; the edges of the bass are not as deep as the centre (convex curve on the top so it has a flat backed, sucked lozenge shape... if that is possible ), the neck isn't a traditional 4 bolt design with all four bolts going in at 90 degrees to the body, as two of the bolts anchor at a 45 degree angle and there's the retractable strap extension arm which means that the strap button fixing is moved out so that it is the equivalent of a traditional top horn and closer to the 12th/14th fret position.
 16.
...And yes I do play the bass solo from Smooth Operator when I'm noodling at home
Though I think the track is nice enough I'd never even noticed that bass bit in it! The live youtube track I listened to/watched also threw me as I initially didn't identify the bass from it's tone, then I saw that it was a Ray. Just goes to show that a Ray isn't necessarily a 1-trick-pony (just mho), especially with a bit of chorus etc.
 17.
and somehow you whittled all that down to one thunderfunk! and multiple cabs... one more on the way! thunderfunk does look a nice bit of kit.
Oh that wasn't the worst of my addiction!
 18.
in trying to see if that is true i found them listed amongst great British bass amp makers! http://www.guitarnoise.com/lesson/british-bass-amps/
No disrespect to those that have H&K Bassforce amps/combos but the BassBase and the QT amp you have for sale Luke are head and shoulders above the Bassforce; to qualify that I've owned several H&K products and Sound Control let me have one of the big BF combos on appro and it was back in the shop within hours as it just didn't have the same quality of tone of the high end H&K... again apologies to those who have BF gear but that's my opinion! In fact the ownership of H&K amps got a bit silly at one point! Warwick Protube IX H&K BB600 H&K BB400 H&K BB250
 19. I think/hope I know Bob well enough to ask this question without it derailing this thread. Something has always puzzled me about these 'glass-like' finishes and BO necks. The neck is coated in a uniform thin veneer of very hard lacquer, it is then put onto a bass and with strings, brought up to tension which applies a bow to the neck (I'm assuming the neck does retain full truss rod adjustment); why doesn't the lacquer crack or craze as the neck starts to flex/bow? I can accept that a normal fretless/fretted neck has some give for the wood fibres to move (the fretted would have more latitude with the fret slots) but something which I visualize as a sheet of ice (the epoxy coating) surely can't have that much give... can it? I know that this is one of those things you just accept because there are loads of basses out there with this type of finish but is there a risk that the 'glass' will shatter?
 20.
Shame on you for not sharing the Bolin love. They are pretty rare (not as in vintage and all that) but they come up now and again and are very light indeed. The fact that they have the best piezo tone ever (yes I stated that as a fact even though it is only any opinion) is a bonus as well.
Let's be honest, we both know why I didn't mention the Bolin... because I'm buying the next one that becomes available! Any way Owen, you're a bit late to the party here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=114484

 23. I asked the same question here. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=109198
 24.
I've heard a very exciting combination with 2x10 and 2x12 inches speakers in one cab and sounded amazing.Check Schroeder cabs mate
I don't think that's a lot to do with the fact that it is a combination of 10's and 12's and more a case of the cab design having a mid range bump that makes them sound the way that they do.
 25. Do you have an accurate weight? Is it a trick of the camera angle or is the neck slightly out of true. It looks like the E string comes in over as it comes down and the G string does the opposite, to the point where the G sting is nearly off the fingerboard; the bridge saddles also look like they are all bumped across to the left of centre!
